my black 92 turbo stolen!!!!

That mainframe is constantly collecting information based on the interval that the GPS is configured for. It also sends information based on an event such as speeding, stopping, engine off, engine on...,

You are missing a basic fundamental network concept...i.e. how does this information get back to your mainframe.

Your application (as described) is just updating a database with the changes in position (plus what other parameters you have program) and reporting this information to the mainframe.

Mainframe is updated via sat. Sat polls GPS based on the configuration. Configuration is based on how much you want to spend, sat time is expensive. That is why I assumed only a business would purchase my systems.

Ya it is and why I didn't go to the 'car' market. Plus as I say a lot of cars have them built in now. This was a custom solution I built when truckers were paying over $1,000.00 for digital communications and tracking software.

While I admit it is the K-Mart of tracking, it is perfect for the smaller trucking companies with 1-25 trucks. That was the market I was going for. In my case I had done some project work for the Sat company out of Vancouver and in return they gave me greatly reduced Sat time. The GPS units cost me about $350.00 a piece, with Sat I was able to charge trucking companies a bit more which allowed me to charge couriers a bit less so it all works out.

Average price per month came in at about $120.00 per truck. That is because I used existing technologies such as Google Maps and Internet instead of cellular networks where they just wanted too much money, and they wanted to control what I was doing. It is inexpensive (relatively) and it works.

In most cases the GPS would update about every 5 - 10 minutes for busy companies such as couriers but for long haul trucking once an hour was acceptable to most companies since they can always via the same system have the driver manually enter a location via his cellphone. That was part of the same system and for really basement costs that system could be purchased. The cellphone would ring with a txt msg asking the driver to check in. He goes to the website using his phone (single click bookmark), and he would be prompted for what country, then what province/state, he then gets a list of every city and he selects the city (all dropdown selection and single click), that information would be written to the database. Again the dispatcher sits back and watches all of this happen. Now that is cheap and perhaps not for everyone but for small courier companies or I have on Repo company that us the system and they like it. That cost only $25.00 per vehicle and again no software to purchase you simply sign up.

Everytime that I open this thread when is showing a new update, I get really desapointed to find out that it has become a topic of everything but nothing helpful to find Rob's car.

I wonder if he feels the same....

+1.

Don't insurance companies have to pay out after 30 days? Rob - have they given you a value assignment to your car yet? Any news?

I would say that anything posted here that can help us avoid an issue such as the one facing Rob is good for all of us. The fact that we have a member who is going through this extremely stressful time just makes me take notice and wonder if i have been diligent enough in making sure my car stays in my garage, and if there is more I can do to keep it that way.

That is a good point. I think we could all be a little more dilegent; however, as was the case when mine was stolen - the police told me that if someone really wants your car and you actually drive it, they'll get it.

In my case:
I entered a car show in St. Louis and took 2nd place. (I was going to school there).
I drove my car home to London the next day (end of semester)
My car was flatbedded away my first night home.
Stripped and written off - found in a field the next day.

I had the best car alarms, parked in illuminated and video monitored parking lot. Ultimately, they wanted it, and they got it.

I think by this point in the story as regretable as it is, it's better that the car not be found. I really don't think I'd want it back after all this time.

swbatte pretty much has my point of view on car theft. If someone wants it, they're going to get it. Doesn't matter what you try. The best you can hope for is that you make it more difficult to steal your car than they're willing to go through.

Coming from Honda-tech (many moons ago) I always read horror stories of people's cars being stolen OUT of their garage where the car was kept.

I hope this all gets resolved to the OP's satisfaction...as much as it could be.

Guys, just enjoy your cars knowing that they're all insured and replaceable.

Life is too short.

Yeah except that they will value your NSX for book value, which for my car is way less than market value. Then they will NOT pay for any extras, so the CTSC, KW competitions, VRH lift, Ti exhaust, the BBK, the dozens of R parts, stereo, NONE of that stuff is covered. So essentially, even carrying insurance, I can be out 50K.

I can't buy insurance from someone like Haggerty in my state, and I cannot specify a value and pay extra. I will just be F'ed.

I wish I could just drive and not worry...

It's a calculated risk. Even bone stock NSXs won't get replacement value from an insurance company. I carried a rider on my car for a year for the mods, but it was expensive, so I discontinued it.

My sister's car was stolen from our parent's house in Markham last night at around 4am.

I bought her boomerang last year so the police were able to track and find it early this morning.

The seats were stolen, the stereo deck and the ecu. The bumper was damaged and the ignition is jammed or broken.

Her car pic is in my sig.

I feel so bad for her. She is really sad. She told me this morning that she was happy she got in one more track day last week.

So the news is already going around on other sites and Facebook. Might as well C&P it here.

"The NSX that was Stolen from our shop 2 months ago has been found chopped to pieces, in a Home Garage about 2km from our shop. RUCKUS MOTORSPORTS and their associates have been arrested by the Police. They operate a shop about 6kms from our location. I have absolutely no remorse for what will happen to these individuals who committed this crime. One minute they are your buddies, next minute they are stealing your car and cutting it to pieces to probably to fund their failed attempt at a drag racing hobby. What does this say about our hobby and profession, when people can steal something that someone has poured their hard work and soul into for their own greed. Has your car been stolen? I'd check with them. Please share this with with everyone you know"

very sad news indeed ...tough to realize that it was the another shop so close to his area that stole the car...at least there is closure on the matter and you can move on to another nsx

This is really a shame and bad for business around. With the news it gives the area a bad rep and will effect everyone. Such selfish act. With some luck I hope the group sees some jail time for this.

Rob, has the insurance pay out the claim yet? Closure is always a good thing and it allows you to move on.

They should charge them with being dumb as well as criminals. Naming your business Ruckus Motorsports should net them a year or two alone.

Now everything that business has done will be torn apart. I bet they fudged on taxes. I bet that they can find motors and parts from other stolen cars in their customers cars. Those people probably had no idea that they were buying stolen stuff from a business.

Idiots. At least they are going to get whats coming. The business is toast too. I hope they leveraged up to get it going and I hope that they signed really long leases.

I'm glad that they got caught. A couple less thieves to have to worry about but that is awful to hear about your baby being chopped up.
