I've thought about this.... and really, the main benefit this has is the added height versus a scissor lift (this is a very good thing). The downside is that there is no room for a tripod which may be necessary since using a strobe to light the shot is basically impossible.

Lynn has secured us the use of a scissor lift (complete with truck and driver to deliver it for us) for very cheap. How much would the owner of that van with the cherry picker bucket charge? Free? <crossing fingers>

J

James, you could put the cherry picker at the top of the hill. at 35' it would look great looking down on the cars........bill

Lynn and I thought of that but the scissor lift at the bottom would be in the cherry picker shot and vice versa.

Actually, if we can find someone with a super-duper ultra mega mighty zoom, the best pictures I've seen (for perspective) were shot from coit tower.

I know just the photographer friend with the super duper telephoto lenses.

coit tower would be an excellent shot, with the correct lens, weather permitting, no S.F. fog in the morning in spring?, and being able to secure the balcony of that specific house on Telegraph hill.........just playing devil's advocate...

Ooh ...I like the Coit tower suggestion.

Which brings up another option to do both or more We can even do the GG bridge.

NSX86, I got your PM. I'll get back to you once I've made a few other decisions. Thanks for your effort. I plan on using your past experience soon.

I've told him about the photoshoot and he's going to Coit Tower area this week to scout out the best angle and lenses to use. I'll report back as soon as he does.

Photographer reported back...says shooting from Coit Tower will only give barely acceptable images. Also, any haze that day will make images worse.

He shot tests with 800mm Leica APO Telyt lens.

You guys know we (57 of us) did this twelve years ago... turned out good.

Count me in if the weather cooperates!

The date I requested of the city for our event is May 30. I'll let everyone know what happens next

Latest update:

Just got an e-mail yesterday afternoon from Laurel, my contact with the city's film commission and she said that for us to do this, we'd have to be finished shooting by 11am. This means that we have to meet by about 7am and start shooting by 8am. That should give us plenty of time with a nice buffer in case something comes up.

J

Hay James,

If we finish the shoot in the morning what about the off duty police officers escort us to another location in San Francisco, i.e. out by the Golden Gate, Golden Gate Park, Crissy Field, etc. for more photo opportunities and lunch?

Doug
