hey guys, during our s2ki Fish/Chips event we had a profesional father/son team who did an aerial shot for us. A few nsxprime guys were there with me so they know what I'm talkking about. I can contact them if there's interest since they use a 1.4 scale R/C helicopter to do the aerial shot.

No offense to that father and son ariel photographers but I was there also. They took over an hour to take a few good shots from their mini helicoptor cam. Then wanted to sell 13x19 print for $40. Then the aerial shot showed mostly the tops of the cars.. Some research needs to be spent on camera lenses and camera angles on Lombard St. to get the highest quality images, for all the effort and expenses that is going into this event. Then a budget needs to be determined for a professional photographer. If there's a Prime member who's a great photographer then even better.

Hey...cool....thats the first time I have seen that pic and I was there too. But you are right about just showing the tops of the cars.

I don't know that father/son team personally....

Price wise I thought it was expensive too but I ended up buying one for my office just cuz it was a cool shot. I'm sure hiring a R/C helicopter vs. a real one will be cheaper though.

So if you think $40 is a lot, hiring an actual aerial one will be more! :)

I agree Rick. We might want to consider getting some students from the Academy of the Arts in San Francisco. I taught some communications courses there for a few semesters. These kids have a tremendous inclination to add to their portfolios and they also have access to the multi-million dollar equipment facilities at their exposure.

Could get one or many of them involved and have them use the university's equtment as well.

I may be wrong, but I learned a little something about Lynn yesterday while we were out scouting the site. I think she just wants to be #18

So...

Lynn and I went out to Lombard street to scout out the site and make a few decisions about meeting places and routes and stuff. Everything below is tentative, but...

We decided we'd meet at Fort Mason. There's a big parking lot there and even a few spots where people can take pictures with a nice background. The route from Ft. Mason is NSX friendly, as is the circuit that we're going to use to get NSXs from the front of the shot to the back of the line so they can "back fill" at the top of the hill.

From there, those interested in a meal will make their way back to Ft. Mason while a few of us hang back to shut down our little production. Once done doing that, we'll all meet back up at Ft. Mason and drive a little ways to a restaurant called Beach Chalet IIRC. Lynn has the most awesome directions to this restaurant, right, Lynn? Parking will likely be across the highway and we're going to request that the restaurant sit us at the window where we can see not only our cars but a great view of the beach.

From there, those interested in a short drive will do so. We haven't determined the exact route yet but we're going to find one that will be relaxing and should include a couple of photo ops too.

After that, we'll say our goodbyes and head home. I'm sure some of us will continue to do something else but that would conclude the "official" event stuff.

Helicopter, helicopter...

Well, Bill's running down the price on a full, human sized helicopter but I think it may be cost-prohibitive.

As for the RC helicopter, I'd welcome it but I won't include it in the official "stuff". One thing to keep in mind is that we're not just taking one picture. We plan to take a picture or two or three, scoot down about 3 spaces, then take another shot, etc. until everyone has had a chance to be one of the 3 front cars. What this means is that the RC would have to grab a shot (or however many they would take), then wait about 5 minutes before taking another shot and then hope that it's framed the same.

Also, my goal is to have a CD produced with all of the photos taken on it and a copy of which would be distributed to all of the participants and that we would all have "rights" to them so that if we want a 3'x2' poster of a picture, we could. Or print a 4"x6" of all, or whatever. But basically, we'd all get a copy of each of the photos and we'd all be able to share them with others. (This means that we're going to have all of the participants sign releases, just so that I have all of the legal B.S. taken care of).

J

Looking for input:

Do we want to have the pictures with just the cars, or with the drivers/owners next to the cars?

A hybrid of this could be that the 3 cars in front have the drivers in front of them, while all of the others are just the cars.

Also, perhaps we can have a banner made with the NSXCA logo and have it placed somewhere?

What do you all think?

It looks like the planning of this event is coming along very nicely. Good Job.

Great idea on the CD. Maybe we can submit this event to NSXDriver?

I think either way works. Or for those that are camera shy, we can write their s/n next to their NSX.

On a side note... when did our NSXCA Bay Area Chapter Regional Representative become an assistant to the EC?

Bill, no problem. We can make sure that you and I are posed just perfect then just have the pilot be there when we're ready. Screw everyone else!

1. Mike, thanks for the promotion!!! Can't thank you enough!!!

2. J, thanks for always sticking up for little OLD me from the above said individual!

3. If ever someone needs directions, DO NOT ask me!

4. Always remember what Mike says, "...Its not a request, its a demand... or suffer the consequences."
What a smart man! :wink::biggrin:

5. Forget the helicopter! (Unless I get to fly too)

do you think one of these will help in the aerial pic?? this guy can put you up about 35' in the air straight up.

I've thought about this.... and really, the main benefit this has is the added height versus a scissor lift (this is a very good thing). The downside is that there is no room for a tripod which may be necessary since using a strobe to light the shot is basically impossible.

Lynn has secured us the use of a scissor lift (complete with truck and driver to deliver it for us) for very cheap. How much would the owner of that van with the cherry picker bucket charge? Free? <crossing fingers>
