Inexpensive, but effective mods?

"HPDE" better be defined by everyone as "High Performance Driver's EDUCATION." That is the only chance you have of getting your insurance to cover you on the track if you have an "incident." Many policies now exclude any type of track time but those without that specific exclusion would still need to provide coverage as long as it is considered "Education." There is a huge distinction legally based upon the contractual language and endorsements in your policy so we should all be consistent, at least with NSXPO, with the "E" part of "HPDE."

We just had a gas station called Performance Petroleum open up in little old Loveland. You can get 94, 100 and 104 octane unleaded! The owner won't sell you the 104 for a street legal vehicle but he will sell you the 100 octane (for $3.75 a gallon)!

In all previous years, the NSXPO track event has been very clearly called a "drivers school", with instruction provided, and caveats against racing in any form.

This year, the event is still called a drivers school, but it includes a time trial portion, which might or might not put the event (either in whole or in part) under the category of "competition and timed events" that some insurance policies exclude.

Incidentally, I put the question of HPDE - whether the term implies instruction - to the track folks on another board, and you can read the resulting comments here.

Aside from improving yourself with HPDE also consider:

1) Brake fluid <$10
2) Weight reduction (free)
3) Brake pads <$200 from Andie

Also, considering your location, I would definitely get tint ASAP!

Actually, none of these mods cost anything.

You need to flush your brake fluid periodically anyway; the maintenance schedule says every 30K miles or 2 years but it should also be flushed in the previous 6 months any time you take the car out on the track. Incidentally, Motul RBF 600 has substantially higher boiling points than ATE Super Blue (593F dry, 420F wet vs 536F dry, 392F wet) and is still quite economical.

And if you wait until your brake pads need replacement anyway, you won't be spending anything extra; most good aftermarket pads cost about the same as the stock ones.

Just bring a big gas can and tell him your filling up a fountain speed boat.

I haven't read all the posts here so someone else may have asked, where do you get these? Any details would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can get one-piece cross-drilled rotors from Stillen. I don't know about prices, but I think the PowerSlot slotted rotors (under $200 for a pair) are just as good.

If you go to Stoptech two-piece rotors, you can get them cross-drilled, slotted, or solid-faced. They are available direct from Dali Racing or direct from Stoptech.

I purchased the Brembo built OEM sized rotors from Dali. I hear these Brembo guys know a thing or 2 about brakes? Go figure...

Anyway - I am very pleased so far with them. I have had four track weekends and they have held up perfectly and much less dusting with them RM pads then OEM IMO.

Likewise on the octane here in MO. The EPA Nazi's only allow 91. Ditto on the drivers ed., your 1st mod should be increasing your own skill @ what you already own.

Are you sure you are not shopping on the KS side? 93 octane is availible all over the St. Louis metro area. All 8 of us filled up with 93 octane at Quick Trip on Sunday.

no benefit to 100 unless your boosted or running NOS the higher octane decreases your chances of having detonation. if spraying or s/c,if your N/A stick with the 93

I searched Dali's site and cannot seem to find Brembo built OEM sized rotors

is it fair to assume you purchased the Bradi OEM replacement rotors. AFAIK, Brembo has yet to produce an OEM replacement rotor (front or rear) for the 91-96 NSX.

Contact Mark when he get's back from vacation next week. They were part of the "Brain St. Denis I am a cheapscate" brake deal as I recall...
