Hurricane Rita...

HAHAHA....

Thanks Bro. Ill know better tomorrow whether or not Im taking flight. Im atually trying to get my grandparents to evac but its not going well. My grandmother is the patriarch (sp?) of the family and to be honest, I think she can take me. If shes adament about staying then I will stay with them and keep an eye on them.

Now, stay away from the hamster....

I got one, get in the car and get the hell outta town. If you decide to stay, stay safe. (The top shelf liquor is is a pretty good suggestion too)

We are leaving town for sure, but we are taking her A4, and the traffic is real bad at this point. I'd rather stick with my family, knowing they're safe...

Car is not as important as people and my pets...I can leave my NSX out of sight, but not the ones I love...

I would leave the car. Hopefully it survives the storm and I don't think you'll have the looting problems as with the previous hurricane.

ALL hotels in Austin, San Anotonio, Dallas and San Marcos are sold out. They're all filled with evacuees of Katrina and would-be evacuees of Rita...

Still plenty of hotels available here in Dallas. We made room for New Orleans folks, and we'll make room for our own just as easily. I'm sure SA and Austin have space also - don't underestimate how many hotel rooms are in these cities. I would definitely hit the road - as bad as traffic is in Houston when everything is normal, I can only imagine the complete clusterf*** it will be as we get closer to the weekend.

Good luck to you all, and please don't hesitate to demonstrate that you learned from the catastrophe 3 weeks ago.

Please be safe

That's right - as far as I know, there are lots of rooms here.

The offer Osiris_x11 made is valid at my place, as well. A family who escaped Katrina is using my rental property, but I have a couple of spare rooms at my home. I might even have some of that top-shelf liquor. :)

Wrong Priorities

All the talk about "protect the NSX" is poo poo.

Like Nick and Doc say, there are higher priorities than material items. That said, we are staying for family reasons. Today during lunch at a store, me and one other customer were politely "arguing" over the last of the bottled water. In hindsight, maybe I'll chuckle about it one day, but just that brief instant showed me - despite how I come across on the keyboard - that as easy going that I am in real life, a could've easily "lost it".

What kept me from doing that is what happened in a grocery store parking lot yesterday. I was turning the corner and a customer leaving the store was to the side of my car, but decided to turn and I guess he thought I was too close. He was on foot, by the way. He yelled at me a not so nice thing. In front of the world to see, I stopped the car, got out walked towards him and was yelling "You @#$%-ing want a piece of me? I was ten feet from you so get off my back." No answer, so I started walking towards him again when a voice yelled out from the sidewalk, "Hey!" It was not a cop but a security guard with his hands on his hips nodding his head "no" from side to side. All of a sudden big bad Andy felt like a little turd. Odd how urban stress can morph people.

Hey y'all, I just saw she's now a Cat. 5. Prayers are going up for you and your loved ones- from Miami * Be safe *

Well I have Parents/Inlaws/Aunts/uncles in Houston and guess what THEY ARE ALL COMING TO TYLER.

Hopefully the storm is going to go south of Houston. I was in Sugarland when Alescia(sp?) hit in 1983. That was a category 3 storm and we had flooding in our streets but luckily not in the house. This is going to be worse. :frown:

Don't forget the unbelievable amount of flooding as a result of tropical storm Alison a few years back - I remember pictures of I-10 under water, and that was just a tropical storm - Rita is the real deal. Drive out now or paddle out later.

Good luck and prayers for everyone about to deal with Rita. I just went through what is coming your way and it is not nice. Man, this weather is getting too nuts!!

AGREED!!

Now the news says that we are to expect 120mph winds in my area. Im 60 miles inland!!! This thing is starting to really scare the shit out of me. Before you guys tell me to just leave, understand that I have family here that will not leave and I will not leave them.

Like everyone said, "F" the NSX and the property, Im looking for a safe haven here in my neck of the woods. I may move my family to my warehouse but Im not too sure how safe that will be either.

Evacuation is almost futile. Its taking people 9 hrs to get from Pearland to DT Houston, thats normally a 20 to 30 min drive!!!!

Pray you guys and lets all hope for the best.... :frown:

Why can't you get your family to leave? Plus, there was a warning to evacuate issued two days ago. Do yourself a favor and get out of there no matter how long you have to sit in traffic.

Didn't we all learn something from Katrina.

Get off the computer and get out of town!

All of the freeways have turned into parking lots going out of town. People are out of there cars staring down the horizon looking for a glimmer of hope. Some people ran across the freeway to use the restroom..I almost nailed one guy on my way to work. It is crazy out here..like a scene out of War of the Worlds except there is no Tom Cruise.

Dang... That is scary.. That is why I will always own a true offroad vehicle.

Good luck you guys....the rest of us will be at home watching the coverage...if you're near the ocean, please get out! Take a trip to Vegas for the weekend...good time of year to do that.

Guys, We got to Dallas o.k.

Ricky;

Yesterday, it took us over 5 hrs just to get to Conroe from our house which is only 27 miles away ( First gear all the way ) , after that we were able to travel @ 30 mph the rest of the 200 miles.....even so, the trafic was bad but it was very well organized, thanks to our mayor and people like you (THANK YOU).

PS: Last night I was able to contact Paul, but only once.....It is almost impossible to contact anyone else through their cellphone.

Good luck, Guys......

HOV lanes?!?

My aunt and her daughter's family apparently left Sugarland (Greater Houston) at 8-9am this morning (Thursday) and are en'route to our place in Greater Austin...

I have heard that it has taken people 16-18hrs to do the 175'ish miles, and that was yesterday!

I anticipate the roads are perhaps even more congested today

What kinda ETA ya'll think for their arrival?!?

If you guys head out to San Antonio, I suggest going Old Business 90 which not too many people are aware of. It is smooth sailing down that road for now and some gas stations were empty down it. You guys take care and be safe so we can reschedule poker night..

Yesterday it was 3 to 4 times the usual travel time to any location..today I it looks like 7 to 8 times. But still, better than staying here for now.

Nick, no need to thank me..I get my thanks from helping others  Be safe and I will be looking for that bottle of X.O., so I apologize for the number of holes in your backyard in advance

I feel bad for Bush, this must suck for him...I think he is going to give up as President...i really do. And as got gas i recoomend this to you all....BUY ALL THE GAS YOU CAN NOW! My parents are fill up our 3 cars as much as possible, and we r filling out gas contains as well just incase of high prices.
