Houston is now bracing for hurricane Rita. We got word from our HQ to let all employees take friday off to make preperations.

Ive stocked up on bottled water and things like that but Im still not sure its going to be that bad. I hope Im right. :frown:

Our company also sent us a memo regarding preparation for Rita. We are going to get enough water, food, supply and gas tonight...

At least our home is like 4-5 feet higher the street level....

Hey ION , Rita is finally! leaving us here in Miami. I didn't lose power during the storm. And although the winds were strong, not too much damage. I will keep you and yours in my prayers.

~Mermi~

I saw on the news that Rita was traveling west at 15mph, or about twice the speed of FEMA.

DAMN! Shes a Cat. 4 now and is said to be gaining strength! This is looking to be bad. Alot of my employees called in this morning to say that they were not gonna be in the rest of the week. They are evacuating to get out of the way of Rita.

Any of you guys from Houston leaving? Im locking my car and covering it with THICK blankets in my warehouse this weekend, but Im gonna stay in Houston as far as I know. :frown:

Everyone be safe.....

Stuck like chuck..going to 12 hr shifts tomorrow, so you guys don't be lootin

If all else fails, will have a margarita during rita.

I aint goin back copper. The fuzz will never take me alive!!!!

I may join you for that margarita. Rita party at my place!!!

Im going to 12 hr shifts as well. Gotta keep production up so we can rebuild NO from Katrina. Ill be getting of at 230 today and I have to back at 10pm tonight. :frown:

I-45 at 6pm will be shut down southbound and all lanes on both sides are going North

It's CCCeeerrraaazzzy in H-Town...

Our household (me, my g/f, her younger sis, 2 dogs and 1 hamster... ) is leaving to San Marcos to stay at friend's currently vacant apt.

ALL hotels in Austin, San Anotonio, Dallas and San Marcos are sold out. They're all filled with evacuees of Katrina and would-be evacuees of Rita...

I am going to get more water and food today. To everyone staying in H-town, take good care of yourself your love ones and your NSX. Stay out of harm's way.

Good resource to get prepared:

Dude, get the "F" out of there. If the storm hits 50 miles in either direction of where you are you'll still get clobbered.

I second that... there's nothing in the system that is supposed to break up the hurricane. It's only going to get stronger... and that is one BIG hurricane.

May luck be on your side.

yes, Nick, remember X marks the spot where all the X.O. is....gonna need lots of that to stay warm

You guys take care and evac if you can til all is clear and safe. If you want, just leave the keys to the NSX's by the garage, just in case my work car floods

Good luck to everyone! Now get the hell out of the way of that thing (not directed at OP but everyone guessing where and how bad)

Nobody who can help it should be there when Rita hits. Didn't we learn anything as a country? Forget all the Sam Houston stuff they teach in Texas schools and get out. Every "thing" can be replaced. It will break my heart to see a large loss of life so soon after Katrina when collectively we should know better.

The only reason to stay is for "stuff" - not good enough for me!

Prayers go out to everyone touched by either storm.

Ha...she's 20...

Our employer is letting us leave to take care of stuff.

To everyone else in Houston, I encourage you to leave town just to be safe.

extra-extra wet...

My aunt & her daughter's family from Houston/Sugarland are coming upto Austin sometime tomorrow evening to stay w/ us. They have a brand-new lakefront house, lol... I couldn't imagine the emotions I'd be going through! :frown:

Anywayz, Patrick & others... if ya'll need a place to chill for a few days, let me know; if not at my place, I'm sure I can try a hook-up somewhere else. Safety should be first & foremost... w/ top-shelf liquor a close second!

BTW, how old is the hamster?
