This will hopefully answer the question I have recieved on how to install the Alpine-S634 using the factory bracket. If anyone has additional questions feel free to e-mail me [email protected].

Tools needed:
10mm wrench
phillips screwdriver
3/8 drill bit

First you must remove the screw that has the arrow pointing at it. This will allow the bracket to fold all the way down.

Then you will need to remove the four screws holding the bracket to the car.

Once you have removed the bracket you will need to make the factory mounting holes larger. Use the 3/8in drill bit to do this.
Once I clarify what needs to be drilled the picture will get put back, sorry.

Save all the parts from the factory setup. You will reuse them. After you have drilled the factory bracket, bolt it back to the car.
You will now make and adjustment to the CD changer. Normally the changer is set up to run horizontally. You will need to set it up to run vertically. First remove the caps on the ends of the changer. Make the change then put the cap back on.

Use the brackets supplied with the Alpine cd changer. The bracket on the right will need to be reversed so it looks just like the one in the picture.
ImageServer.psp

You will now use the factory bolts that were used to hold on the factory CD changer.
ImageServer.psp

Connect the cd changer using the factory bolts. The only difference from factory is the right rear bolt. I just placed the clip under the bracket and still used the factory bolt.

Now set the switch inside the door from 1 to 2
ImageServer.psp

Connect the Peripheral adapter ACUALP to the factory cd changer cable.
ImageServer.psp

Connect the Alpine KCA-130B adapter to the Peripheral adapter.
ImageServer.psp

Connect the KCA-130B adapter to the cable supplied with the Alpine changer.
ImageServer.psp

Stuff all the cables behind the carpet.
ImageServer.psp

Plug the cable into the cd changer. Don't forget to put the bolt back into the side of the bracket that you removed in the beginning.

Now you are finished enjoy.

If anyone can find anything I might have left out let me know.

Hats off to nsxxtreme for this setup. At an average of 150 songs/CD I have about 900 songs online - I love this thing. The bass is tighter and lower than the OEM changer and otherwise makes the BOSE system sound almost decent. I've been playing mp3 discs mostly and it has never skipped. It switches discs about 3x as fast as the old unit too. I also like that it uses the CD player interface, no mods to the dash (or anything else for that matter) and I don't have to scroll through menus and lists to hear a song. I just have to remember "Turn up the Radio" is track 87 on disc 4"

If you're looking to upgrade your CD changer, the CHA-S634 is a no-brainer.

Great post. I'm ordering the changer today. I'm having trouble finding the adaptors. Do you know of a good place to order them? and specific part numbers?

The pictures seem to have died. You might want to send them all to Lud and get a real DIY article set up.

If you read through my original post you can find all the info you are looking for.

The part that is not clear to me is the Peripheral honda adaptor. They list two parts; the ACUALP which is listed for years 1992-1998, and the HONIL which is listed for years 1998-2001. When I called them they said they think I need the HONIL. My car is an 01, but did the radios change in the NSX? Do I in fact need the ACUALP even though my car is an 01?

gee, francis has everything in WMA format?? what a surprise

.

circuit city is SUPPOSED to stock these for $250, but there isn't a single one to be had in MA. All the cheap online places charge $30+ for shipping which puts them over $300. Called my old shop that I dealt with when I did IASCA stuff, they dropped Alpine (or Alpine dropped them, they claim the first
smile.gif
). Finally found a shop in NH that has it for $300 as well as the two necessary adapter cables. I'm debating taking the plunge even though I already have a portable 20gig MP3 player in the car. Because of the crappy interface though I never use the thing (its this gizmo here http://www.ssiamerica.com/products/neojukebox/index.shtml )

nsxxtreme,

To include the imagestation photos in your post above, you need to insert the URL of the actual picture between the [ IMG ] and the [ /IMG ] in your post. To find the URL of the picture:

1. view it in imagestation

2. right mouse click on it and select "properties

3. it should display "Address (URL)" which you can highlight and CTRL-C to copy

4. then paste it into your post between the [ IMG ] and the [ /IMG ]

I did do this, Imagestation randomly changes your picture locations so it is harder to link to them, it worked for about two days. I e-mailed Lud to see if he wanted to host them.

I'll fix it one more time but it is guaranteed to go down again

If Russ (from the link above) still wants to organize a group buy of 5. I can still get them. Everyone from the first group buy ended up paying $290 shipped to their door. This included both adapters. It also came from an authorized Alpine dealer.

nevermind, im out. just went out and bought everything
smile.gif
. $322 for the unit and both adapters at a shop up in plaistow, nh (ie, no tax!). printing out the instructions now and then its off to install... and if i can find my smartenna thats been sitting in a box somewhere for three years, i might as well do that at the same time.

well..... i think its done, but in following the instructions there is still one thing thats not clear.....

the drilling the hole part and the mounting brackets for the 634. the factory mounting brackets do not work with the 634 (the brackets that were still attached to the stock unit once its removed from the car).

so i wasnt sure if i was supposed to use the new mounting brackets provided with the 634. it appeared i had to since there was no way to securely fasten the old bracket to the 634.

problem is now when i put the 634 into the car, the 2 bolt holes on each side are much closer together than the 2 bolt holes on the mounting bracket that stays in the car. im not even sure WHY i had to drill those, so i must be missing something.

i ended up bolting the unit in with 2 bolts instead of 4 and it seems secure enough so ill give it a shot and see how it goes. i havent actually tested it yet. ran into the house to grab my keys and decided to post this before i run back out.

You use the brackets supplied withe the Alpine cd changer. I will change that in the instructions. Thanks, I think it still may need one more picture. I will try to add this later.

The reason you drill the factory bracket(this bracket is the one the cd changer mounts to.) is because the spacing of the mounting holes on the old mounting bracket is different from the Alpine mounting bracket. So by drilling you are making the hole larger so that mounting holes match up with the Alpine bracket. Hope this helps.

thats what i thought you were getting at with the drilling, but the holes arent even CLOSE. something is whacked...... either the bracket in my NSX (91) is different or i'm missing something. it looks like id have to drill an entirely new hole as im off by at least an inch.

I think you are right. I did this DIY after I had already did the job. By looking at the pictures again, I remember having to drill two new holes. If you look at the bracket with the drill in it you will see an extra hole in the back, this should be in the same location as yours. If its not to much trouble can you send me a picture of your bracket so I can fix this to make it more clear. Thanks [email protected]

gotcha, ok let me see about getting a pic. probably wont be until tomorrow while the fiance is at work and im being a bum in the sun
smile.gif
.

ok now that this thing is installed (and working beautifully i might add... though its not MUCH quicker switching between discs which is too bad).....

im having mp3 burning issues. i want to be able to burn mp3s to a cd in a very specific order and all software ive tried keeps sorting them (nero, musicmatch, drag and drop in windows xp). i just want something that will let me burn a play list in the order i want. as a plus it would be nice to also be able to define whether or not i want silence between SPECIFIC tracks (ie, a couple of dream theater and fates warning cds i have should have no spaces between each song but id like to be able to mix them onto a cd that also has albums with spaces between the songs). not really nsx related, but shoot me :P. thanks!
