Osiris_x11, yes, I mean THAT. LOL @ rotunda. I guess you can call it that, though a pretty half-assed rotunda at that. It's got all the pretentiousness and none of the substance. But that applies to the rest of the house as well.
Guys, remember there is a difference between mondern architecture and contemporary architecture. The latter simply meaning current or recent work, regardless of the style. Probably the broadest meaning of modern is just that it's the opposite of traditional -at the time of the design, of course. The problem is that many good designs get copied and copied and end up kitsch cliches.
Personally, my dream is probably something by Buff (recently got an inexpensive and very nice book of photos by Schulman called "Modernism Rediscovered"). But I'd be very happy with any style from any period, as long as some thought and artistry went into the design. Craftsman, Spanish, even California ranchhouse can be done very elegantly. Something created by an architect with a vision, not a building company trying to impress the masses.
My nightmare (besides gated communities) are "custom" homes. You've got several choices of style, each more oppulant than the last: Cinderella's castle, English manor, Greek palace, or Latin American warlord compound. Or "The Contempo": stone and stucco all in pastels. Ouch! Anyone been to Arcadia, CA? Of course, the worst is when you've got a gated community composed of these multi-million dollar custom homes.
But to each their own. The last thing I want to live around is a lack of individually!
