I just saw the MotoRing video featuring the 2002 Type-S NSX. Great video, I only wish I spoke Japanese. In it is a segment on the number 47 Kenwood GT-1 NSX. I noticed that the engine has a longitudinal orientation. Is this the same V6 being used in our cars? Are they using the same transmision? Are they utilizing a differential? Is this video available in English? Will one of you come to my place and translate for me? Domo arigato.

I have them on sale usually too. Currently out of stock.

Its actually '95 LeMans GT2 I believe. That is probably the fastest NSX ever made.

I believe the video indeed showed the GT1 turbo NSX with 600hp. Because the rules are different--It does not require the race cars to follow their street cars in terms of engine/tranny/suspension layout as much as the GT2 class, thus the engine is mounted longitudinal(presumably to make room for the turbo system and better weight distribution) and the transmission is a totally different sequential racing unit as well. The GT1 car is really very different from a street NSX. The GT2 NSX however is actually quite similar to a street NSX. It's possible to fit GT2 NSX components on a street NSX. The same cannot be said for the GT1 or the JGTC spec NSXs.

if you think I'm selling my go-fast parts to go back to stock, you are way wrong my friend ;)

That's Feb 2002. The JDM version of the Best Motoring series of videos come out monthly. On the spine of the video there's a big "2" under the "Feb" but that is simply for the number of the month, and does not refer to a particular day in February.

Ken, the GT1 part is actually the same!! get the english version and see it for yourself. Better yet, stop by to my place, and I'll let you borrow mine.

I'd guess the choice of transmission was the big factor in layout, and perhaps turbo plumbing. Weight distribution is more likely to suffer than improve without other changes, but if you need a proper transmission/transaxle then you arrange the engine accordingly.

GT2 NSX output about 380hp.

Cool! Thanks for the info!

BTW, does anyone here know where I can go to get more info on these 2 LeMans NSX's (GT-1 &2)?

thanks guys for the GT2->GT1 correction... damn, I sell those videos and I didn't even remember correctly. Anyways, the car had transmission problems in the early leg of the race and was forced to retire. Still Tsuchiya's comments on the differences of the JGTC GT500 NSXs and that GT1 NSX is pretty interesting.

I "think" the drift king said that the GT-1 is much much faster (duh) and the turn-in is sharper and much more neutral than the GT500 NSX's. That's all I can remember. I hope I got the translation right. Gotta watch the tape once more to confirm that. BTW why didn't Honda come back with the 2 GT1 cars in 1996 season? One of the Turbo-equipped GT1 had a broken gearbox and that was it. Imagine the possibilities of winning the 96 race if they had brought the Turbo GT-1 out of retirement, provided, of course, Kunimitsu Team was able to solve the gearbox reliability problem.
