NSXTASY sums up most of my thoughts... so no point reiterating.

* Interesting that Acura's exec's were worried the Acura brand got less attention than car names. If that was the case, they should heavily MARKET the Acura brand... rather than removing the car name. Stupid move in my opinion.

* Honda should released a car with V8 to get rid of this whole "honda cant make eight-cyclinder engines" crap.

Overall i agree with the article, but his hostility comes through towards the end (perhaps he is a frustrated fan?) ... and comments like "the NSX is a flop" just serves to pee me off. Good post matteni!

If honda will not make V8s...fine, stick with the 6's...

...but why not stick 2 of those 6's together and make a nice 12 for us? :D I would like. I would repect.

In the late 80s, BMW did just that and made the 750iL...which to this day is the best selling 12 cyl car. Why? It offered high levels of lux, and comfort and you could say when anyone said something bad of your car, yea but I have 12 cylinders, which would shut up most who didn't know too much, and those who did would mostly shake their head in acceptance of the car as 'good' or 'cool'. BUT most importantly it was priced much less then its competitors (30k less than a S600) sure it didn't perform as well as the S600, but for 30k less who cared?

So IMHO, acura should mass produce a 'bargin' 12 based on 2 of their 6's, and drop them into everthing that people 'precieve' needs and 8, at similar prices to teh competition's 8s.

Problem solved. I for one would say what BMW? (540) if there was a well preforming 12 cyl from Honda (or anyone..asssuming it was reliable) and get one of those.

I think we're missing the point...

Honda could build a V8 or a V12 if they wanted to.

They don't want to.

Honda prides themselves on their environmental stance and design ethos.

Honda management deems larger engines as politically incorrect.

They don't mind bucking the trend, in fact, they relish it. It ain't easy being green.

Be green then...and disable 6 cylinders when they are not in use. :D

Or just slap 2 of those S2K 4 cylinders together for a 480 HP NSX.
No complaints then.
This would also cover the luxury sedan.
Would this be enough to get Americans interested in the Acura badge again?

:D If they could pull a technical challenge off like that, THAT would be "bucking the trend"!!!

a 'green' supercar... never heard of that before. ;)

But while Toyota keeps Lexus at arm's length, most Acura dealerships I have seen are adjacent to Honda dealerships. (See Acura - think Honda).

There are nine Acura dealerships in the Chicago area and none are adjacent to Honda dealerships.

1) I never understood why they eliminated the highly successful Legend and Integra name brands.

Because those names (Legend and Integra) were building an excellent reputation and, because of that, the Acura brand name was not.

I guess that this has been an interesting topic for other forums. The issue was discussed (though not as intellectually as here) in

350Z forum

Do you consider an ACURA as nice as an Lexus as far as name brand goes??

Audi forum

Acura outrage

Interesting that those folks should even care.
