F1 2008 Megathread

Re: Damn, another diversion from the racing

Yeah, I'm speechless. I saw reference to this story on another forum and was going to say something snide, cynical and humorous. But then I couldn't decide what tact to take, so I had to really think about it and that's when the disturbing reality seeped in. The reality that 1) Max really did it and is that twisted, or........... 2) someone (maybe Ron Dennis?) fabricated the video and story? If it's true, it's pretty sad, and if it's not, the fact that it can be made to look true becomes another sad commentary on how the internet can be used maliciously. Either way, I'm disturbed by it.

Well, he's not suing the paper that ran the story and he's said that he's staying on as FIA president. I couldn't care less about the sexual side of it but the fact that he's getting off on fantasies of concentration camp tortue is, yes, quite disturbing.

So instead of the Stepneygate of last year, now we have Spankmegate. Yay.

WOOOOHOOOOO!!! I just scored 2 tix to the Bahrain GP. This going to be a daytrip since its just 50 minutes flying time from Dubai. I will take some photo's and post them up.

Re: Max must go; the FIA must buck up

http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns20193.html

When the crown prince of Bahrain calls for Max to stay away from the race, that's pretty heavy.

Many teams and others inside the sport are calling for his resignation, instead of looking the other way. Good on them.

The FIA and Bernie are being tested and must do the right thing for everyone's best interest. Their slience and passivity is pathetic.

Re: Max must go; the FIA must buck up

DubaiRich,

Make sure you sit at Turn 1 as that's the best seat in the house. You get to watch the first corner action and the cars drive off into the circuit. Last years race was great from my seats at Turn 1!

Max Mosely...Reported today on Planet-F1.com

Speculation is rife in the Bahrain paddock that the News of the World is preparing to publish more allegations against Max Mosley.

While the FIA President has threatened to sue the newspaper after they claimed in last Sunday's edition that he was caught in a sordid sex orgy, it is being suggested that more lurid allegations could be made this weekend.

Mosley may not be in Bahrain, but the position (and alleged positions) of the FIA President remains the hot topic of debate. All eyes will be on the News of the World on Sunday morning in the hours before the grand prix.

Mosley has so far resisted calls for his resignation, but his been further undermined by confirmation from the Dutch motorsport federation that they will demand his removal at an extraordinary general assembly hearing of the FIA to be held in Paris. Reports that the meeting will cost around £1m in hotel and transport bills - money which could of course be spent on more worthy causes - hasn't endeared Mosley to anyone either

It's Max Mosley's privacy. He was observed, he was filmed, he was blackmailed (I think), he didn't pay (enough), so the video was published. Noone judged the blackmailing. His sexual live has nothing to do with motorsports. So what's it all about?

soooooo.... how bout them Ferraris!?? :)

So... how 'bout that dick Alonso?? How much do you think a F1 carbon fiber nose cone costs for Hamilton? Less than the $100m penalty Alonso caused McLaren last year?

So... how 'bout that idiot Hamilton?? Running in the back of cars.

Looked like a very nice revenge but Renault said they could proof he didn't brake. :)

Pat Symonds showed every reporter he could Alonso's telemetry from that sequence.

However, if you check vid below (at the 1 minute mark) you can see why Hambone was so much quicker than Caterpillars coming out of that corner.

You can also see JB's crash w/ Cardboard.

I'm watching Rd 3 right now. wow, I just saw LH rearend Alonso. As always, celebrities always making an appearance. Macy Gray interviewed earlier. Apparently , Eric Clapton was in the crowd too. ITV def does do a better job than Speed.

In my eyes he's a POS... I can careless about what he did for Motor Sports at this point. He did it for the money and fame in the first place. This society has enough people like him, another one wouldn't hurt right? NOT. There are others that has less hatred to run the FIA instead of his pathetic looser.
Because of his exploitation, I now know about his roots... pathetic.

Re: Bahrain questions.

I've been way out of touch all week, so let me throw out some questions.

Love the nicknames. Where did Caterpillars come from? That's new to me.

Anyone doubt that Honda is where they're supposed to be; comfortable in midpack? What happened to Button in the first lap? I missed it if they showed it.

and Hamo, was the car not right in race trim after his shunt? I expected somewhat of a charge back up thru the field but he couldn't do squat. Kovy didn't impress either, so McLaren just totally missed the mark?

Overall, not a big action race, but the season just might be as interesting as last year.

I thought it interesting what Varsha was saying about high level sources in Ferrarri and that upper management there is pretty cool toward Alonzo because he's a whiner and not a team player.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Caterpillars is in honor of Alonso's massive eyebrows. AFAIK, it originates, from the F1 thread on Honda-Tech. ;)

JB had a bad start and then had a shunt w/ Cardboard after hounding him a few laps. Button is in desperate need of a clean no incident race.

Three more weeks until the next GP.:frown:

Re: On the FIA website

Extraordinary General Assembly
03.04.2008

The President of the FIA has requested the President of the FIA Senate to call an Extraordinary General Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the FIA statutes.

The full membership of the FIA will be invited to attend the meeting at which the widespread publicity following an apparently illegal invasion of the FIA President’s privacy will be discussed.

The FIA has noted that Mr Mosley is preparing legal proceedings against the newspaper in question.

It is anticipated that the meeting will take place in Paris. It will be held on the earliest practicable date. No further comment will be made by the FIA regarding the matter at this stage.
Senate Decision
09.04.2008

The FIA can confirm that the members of the Senate have unanimously approved the proposal of the President of the FIA, that further to the recent press coverage relating to his private life, an Extraordinary General Assembly should be convened.

The meeting will be held on June 3, 2008, in Paris. The General Assembly will include a vote of confidence by secret ballot.

Should be big fun. They're probably hoping for another "proposal" from Max, like an invite to the next orgy and they all wear balaclavas to hide their identity.

Re: On the FIA website

....and the password to get in will be "Fidelio."

Another casual observation,,,the word 'fantastic"? It is used 93% of the time in every driver interview.Did Napolean and Schumi strike a deal whereby each gets a buck when another driver utters it.Imagine having to chug a brew or do a shot every time it is said??
I think its the Euro/Brit colloquial usage is partly to blame:
- brilliant = "good" for a Brit, "very good" for us
- fantastic = same as brilliant

Just apply more context filtering (better yet chug a shot of your fave single malt), and it all makes sense  enough chugs and even Kimi starts to have "brilliant" personality

Re: Bahrain questions.

I actually expect very little from Honda this year. Braun showed up too late to really get any changes implemented imo. I expect similar numbers as last year, if not worse, as changes are made. He is just looking at the Honda operations and tinkering here and there. By next year he should have a batter grasp of what needs to change and hopefully get the Honda folks back on track.

Re: The Mosley Mess

I guess this is supposed to be a small hint as to how conflicted the FIA Senate is and why there's no telling how the vote will go down.

http://www.grandprix.com/mole/mole20238.html

The problem is that it is often hard to tell what the clubs are going to do. They all worry about losing their FIA events. Mosley has these guys working at regional level and no-one wants to upset them."

"Can we take out the regional guys?" said The Minister.

"Oh, I think they will take care of themselves," said The Mole. "They support him because he has been the strong man. Now he is weak. They will probably turn on him if there is a sniff of a new candidate. When that happens they know they must jump or go down with him, and they are survivors.

........"The sporting people seem to be worried that the touring clubs might take over the FIA," he went on. "This is considered a bad thing. The sport brings in the money so that should make the sporting guys more powerful but they are worried that a weak FIA will somehow be a threat because of turf wars that constantly occur between the FIA and Formula One Management over areas of control in F1."

didn't they already use the bunny ears last year? is this an old pic?
