F1 2008 Megathread

I really don't care if Honda starts mounting dildos and rubber chickens on the RA108, as long as the damn thing starts to perform. I'm sick of seeing RB in the back having chit-chat with Sato at the grid waiting for the tree to run down. And worse is Button driving into any stationary obstacle in an effort to test the RA108's ability to take randomized impacts!

Hopefully those ears allow them to take flight at the start so that they can both fly over the caos caused by Alonso's perpetual brake checking upon launch. Jack-ass.

ROFL!!!! +1 I agree. If a dildo on the nose of the RA108 gets them on the podium so be it.

Hate to break it to you guys, but there's only one more development step for the RA108 to be implemented before they focus on the 2009 car exclusively. The modicum of success we're seeing now is more b/c of good team management than a good car or driving.

Hey Pony did you ever think we would be talking about dildo aero and nazi orgies when you created this thread???!!!

Re: Can't have too much testing.

Only one more development step? Will it be the dildo? If not, rest assured I'll put one on my car and test it the rest of the season. I think I'll EM Ross right now to let him know that bit of good news.

Just trying to help.

Haha...hilarious, doc. How's this: Dildo Aero starring in her newest film - Nazi Orgies: Blowing the Land of Hiel. Sounds like a promising actress and wonderful movie.

Sheesh, seems like forever for the Spanish GP to happen. Anyone going to the Canadian GP?

Honda Racing F1
End of Test Report
Barcelona, 14-17 April 2008

The Honda Racing F1 Team returned to the test track this week following the first three races of the 2008 Formula One season.

With the majority of teams in action at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, this week’s four-day test has allowed Honda to prepare for the next race on the calendar, the Spanish Grand Prix, which takes place next weekend. The team’s Test and Reserve Driver Alex Wurz began the programme on Monday, with Rubens Barrichello taking over the RA108 for Tuesday and Wednesday, and Jenson Button concluding the running on Thursday.

Alex’s focus on Monday was a Bridgestone ‘slick’ tyre evaluation as development work continues to prepare for their return in 2009. He also completed some valuable set-up work with the current RA108 car, covering 75 laps over the day.
Tuesday saw Rubens Barrichello at the wheel of the RA108 with the programme focused on the evaluation of development parts, along with further running of the 2009 tyres. Rubens completed 79 laps, setting the overall fastest time of the day whilst running on slicks towards the end of the afternoon.

Rubens was in action again on Wednesday and spent the morning continuing the aerodynamic and set-up evaluations, followed by a further programme using the slick tyres. With the full test programme successfully completed, Rubens' final lap tally was an impressive 140 laps around the demanding Barcelona circuit.

Jenson joined the team on Thursday for the final day of the test. Unfortunately the day was continuously interrupted by heavy rain showers which drenched the track, restricting Jenson to a single installation lap in the morning and only limited running on wet tyres for a further 41 laps in the afternoon.

Rubens Barrichello
“We had a very busy and successful test this week. On Wednesday, I had a good day evaluating the slick tyres and we were able to make some improvements to our set-up. It was nice to finish at the top of the timesheet, although it does not have too great a significance when only half of the field were running slicks. We ran our new aero upgrade for the first time and I’m encouraged by the performance. I felt a definite improvement, although the windy conditions made it difficult to quantify how much. We covered some good mileage and a lot of test items, particularly on Thursday when I completed 140 laps. Overall I have good reason to be positive for the Spanish Grand Prix and I hope that we can get into the points there.”

Jenson Button
“It’s unfortunate that my day in the car this week coincided with the bad weather that we have experienced today. I was only able to complete 42 laps, mostly on wet tyres, and could not really gather any information from those laps. Thankfully the team had three good days of testing earlier in the week so we are well prepared for the race weekend.”

Alex Wurz
“It was good to be back in the car after closely following the progress that the team has made over the first three races of the season. My day was focused on set-up work with the 2008 car and running the slick tyres to evaluate the basic set-up and design requirements. In addition we continued our ongoing work on engine driveability with the new electronics system.”

Steve Clark
“This week saw the first in-season test of 2008 where we can only use a single car compared to the two car pre-season tests. The development of the RA108 is progressing well and we had many items on the test agenda. Our major development is an aerodynamic update kit which successfully delivered a lap time improvement, however we will not know until the Spanish Grand Prix whether this translates into a significant step forward versus our competitors. In addition to developing the current car, we have been working with Bridgestone on the 2009 tyres. Running here in warmer conditions, we had no issues with warming the tyres up without blankets, and it is a pleasure to run a racing car on slicks again. We are looking forward to the challenge of running the cars next year without tyre warmers and reduced downforce. It should be interesting.

Fairly certain this will be the last development step: Dumbo ears, W wing, and wheel covers.

Re: What happened to "Super Best Friends?"

So, it appears that Super Aguri is going to die a sorry death. Rumors continue to point toward no buy-out/sponsorship salvation. Just an example

Is Honda still contributing what they had before and are they trying to broker a deal to save the team? It seems like they've turned their back on their Super Best Friend. For the paltry budget that team has run on with pretty good fan support, you'd think Honda and Bernie could chip in their lunch money to keep that team afloat. Better yet, Bernie should be able to sell that team to one of his billionaire business buddies.

Re: Rumors: a smile & a belly laugh

Ya gotta love the two new rumors floating around:

1. Reubens has an offer to drive with Andretti Green in the IRL after he leaves F-1. That's good for a smile and a "Hmmmmmmmmmm" http://paddocktalk.com/news/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=82167

2. Hans Stuck says Danica's good enough for F-1 & Flavio is contemplating contacting her. (to fill out his harem or just Nando's soon to be empty seat?) That's a ROTFLMAO. http://paddocktalk.com/news/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=82169

Both of these lightened up my Wednesday.

I'll buy the Reubens rumor. I give the guy props. He's at the tail end of his career and will probably go elsewhere to get his speed fix.

But the Danica thing, ummm yeah, good enough for F1? yeah right...

Her only advantage in f1 would be her light wght.Skill wise it took her 50 starts to win 1 and most of those were ovals, which is really press gas turn press gas lift a little press gas turn ect ect.

Re: It's the age of "Say Anything"

But the Danica thing, ummm yeah, good enough for F1? yeah right...

Yeah, what are these people thinking? Obviously, they're not as the most casual observer wouldn't buy the "Danica has F-1 skill" rumor. What did she say repeatedly last weekend? she's really weak on street circuits and surprised at how well she does on ovals (well duh, it's all about set-up, strategy and cojones). Not great on road courses either where driver skill really comes into play. Without the comfort of the marketing hype that she has enjoyed for 4 years, she would be emotionally savaged if not outright intimidated by the brutal unforgiving F-1 politics, never mind the actual on-track driving tactics.

OTOH, in F-1 anything is possible; maybe Bernie would like a video of her whipping Max's butt.

Anyone finishing first in an American Premier Open Wheel racing event is good not lucky. I say put her in F1 and see what happens. Racing oval is not as easy as it looks. Have you pulled 5g's driving around for 2 hours? If not then shut up.

Even Danica herself said she's not good on road circuits. Have YOU pulled 5g's driving around for 2 hours? Yeah....

Also don't forget Michael Andretti a decorated driver in his own right, made the jump to F1. Politics, driving skill, attitude, ego...no one major cause but all together made his short stint in F1 forgetable after all the hype he came in with.

Danica is no where near Michael imo...so while she may look cute...cute doesn't pay the bills in F1.

I've pulled 10 g's in a jet. Besides, the point is that people think IRL oval racing is so easy because you just press the gas pedal and steer. They do not understand the physical demand of driving these cars at extreme limits. People can black out pulling 3g's, it takes stamina and strength to prevent gravity induced loss of consciousness. I have tremendous respect for these athletes who race oval and even more so for those that are victorious. We have females flying F-18s. Why not F1?

Hey Doc, don't try to turn this into a sex issue. Yes, we all know we have female fighter pilots. Qualified fighter pilots that meet the rigorous standards of their respective services. What you are saying is that it would be ok for a great C-130 pilot to be handed the "keys" to a hornet/raptor/harrier/etc... It takes skills to even pilot a cargo plane, but that doesn't mean that they have the skills to fly a fighter jet, no matter how good they are with a cargo plane.

I repeat, the issue here is not her sex, so don't try to make it one. Specially when even she has admitted herself that she's not that good on road circuits.

I haven't driven in a track, but anybody can safely assume that it doesn't take that much skill to drive an oval track, compared to a circuit a la F1.

We don't hand F-18 keys to cargo pilots and vice versa. All student aviators go through strict flight training curriculum regardless of gender. They are pre-selected to go jets, propellers or rotary aircrafts after completing a grueling preliminary pilot training. Only the top students in their respective peer group go jets.

They then have to elevate their performance to earn their wings and proceed to fly their platform specific aircraft. Each phase requires more advance training and dedication. No one ends up flying Hornets or Falcons "by mistake" or based on gender preference.

I'm not trying to make gender as an issue here, you are. In fact, if I were to raise gender as an issue. I could make the argument that female aviators are the most dedicated, professional and mentally superior to male counterparts. Trust me, I know them. I took care of them as their medical officer. Why are they mentally superior? They are survivors. They play in a male dominated field and always having to prove themselves and to naysayers.

Danica Patrick would make an ideal fighter pilot. She has the mental and physical toughness. Skill wise, she is malleable and trainable.

If a championship driver such as Hans Stuck thinks that Danica Patrick has the talent to drive in F1 then I have no reason to doubt him.

No, I do not assume that it "...doesn't take much skills" to drive at 200+mph on oval track.

My point is this. Danica Patrick is a unique specimen. She has the right stuff, skillwise and mental fortitude. Plus, the huge advantage of weighing only 100-110 lbs. The fact that she is female is irrelevant. IT IS HER WEIGHT OR LACK OF WEIGHT THAT MATTERS THE MOST.

She has the foundation to be good in F1. I think the victory in the Japan Grand Prix is a huge validation of her skills.

The transition to road racing takes time. It's called practice, practice, practice. No one is born to be F1 driver. Even Senna had to practice.

If I were a F1 team owner, I would groom her first in F3 and allow her to learn the tracks and be comfortable with road racing and the culture of living in europe. Build her confidence with success in F3 and then graduate to F1. Surround her with good supporting cast members and see what happens.

In summary, it is very unusual to find a talented open wheel driver who weighs only 110 lbs. with huge mental toughness. I hope a top F1 team will give her the opportunity.

She is too old,and I think is rather getting used to eating steak. The thought of going to europe and eating ramon(poetic license) is not too appealing.Hey stranger things have happened though,Montoya to nascar is just such an oddity.

Hans is the first to suggest that then said Flavio's interested. You're the 3rd. Let me know when your club grows to 4.

Now maybe if she won Dancing with the Stars, I'd change my mind.
