F1 2008 Megathread

Speed is the only F1 broadcaster here in the 'States.
...
Quali tonight. If I can locate an internet feed, I'll post it up.
Unfortunately some of the major US broadcast networks pick-up the "marquee" races like Monaco, etc. They'll do it in high-def, but the rest are downsides - delayed telecast, poor commentators, etc.

SpeedTV site shows the OZ GP at 11 pm EDT tonite (3/14) - practice + qual.
Race coverage at ~midnight , with a re-play @ 1:30 pm Sunday (3/16)

Honda did much better than expected and both drivers did fairly well. Button made two mistakes on his final lap and it may have cost him a place in the top 10. And Kubica has brass ones...big round brass ones.

Woot! The 08 season has started!

Got to hand it to BMW Sauber F1....brilliant setup and development of this seasons car!

It was perfect seeing the top 3 in the drivers interview: Hamilton, Kubica, and Kovalainen instead of:

Raikkonen, Massa, Hamilton

I think this season will be memorable if Australia's qualifying is anything to go by. BRING ON THE RACE!

Yeah, I have high hopes for Kubica...that guy has giant brass ones. Here's why:

25 minutes until the race starts...woot!!

Looks like Honda is doing MUCH BETTER this year already.
And yes, great race. No Ferrari powered car finished the race.

great race. 8 cars had ferrari engine and none of them finished! Lew Ham ran a good race from start to finish. Did anybody hear if any of the honda pit crew got badly after after that re-file confusion?

Uh did anybody hear how good the SAFETY CAR sounded???? Very distinct from the race cars.

That 10 second penalty on Bari was messed up. Someone in the pit crew is gonna get a kicking from Ross Braun. Still a good start for the year though.

F&*K.... well it was gonna happen soon enough. I think the whole shenanigan with the lollipop guy releasing him early messed up his concentration. I'm guessing he saw the whole commotion in his mirror and didn't see the red light at the pit exit. Regardless, he put up a good race. I just wish Button could have finished the race.

Re: Honda's colors ALERT

Sorry to waste bandwidth, but I gotta rant.

I like 'outrageous' and lime green, but sheesh, those Honda lime green pants have got to go. You don't have to watch What Not to Wear to know better.

Back to our regular programming.

I was amazed to see RB blow by the red light at pit out.The lolly gag was another snafu that must have confused him.I don't think the 10 sec penalty would have improved him if he did not get it.Oh well at least we got to q2.I'm psyched now that the season is underway.Did anyone catch the Kiss association,I guess they played a concert at the venue.

AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! This race has me so frustrated! How the heck can it all come down to the most mundane of screwups?? Unbelievable how they threw away an easy podium!

In his defence, he had just run over one of his team members in a chaotic pit stop. I'm not sure he was even aware of the lights considering. But I agree with you, it was frustrating. He very likely could have had a podium, if he would have pitted just one lap earlier.

Damn Toyota. ;)

Re: Timo's wild ride

We're just  in general, right? The safety car coming out wasn't really Glock's fault since that bump should not have been there.

Right. It wasn't Glock's fault he exited that corner with too much speed and rode the grass all the way through the exit, crashed, got airborn, and dumped carbon fiber shards all over the track. It's totally the stationary object's fault for his agricultural excursion, of course.

I was being facetious about Toyota intentionally messing with Honda's race but absolving Glock as the cause of that particular safety car deployment is ... a bit interesting.
