Down Under Trackday NSX

Sorry to give more bad news, Don't forget you've got a few Kilos to add with the Turbo, wastgate, Intercooler. I estimate my turbo kit is about 20kgs. The Air/water intercooler setup is heavy when you add ap all the components, Tank full of water, radiator, pump, lines & Heat exchanger.

Car looks great though. I also like your modifications to the Front guards/fenders. Did you make molds of them? I wouldn' mind a set.

There is certainly a good 40-50KG we could remove not easily in some senses, but we know where it is and we know how to get rid of it for something lighter and that's half the battle sometimes, but still overall fairly light car considering the size and complexity of the cage, as well as the full interior we did with carbon dash and centre console..... the airjack setup etc etc....... guess it all adds up...... one thing a lot of other cars don't have is something as simple as a passenger seat and belts which do definately add up.......but I want people to be able to enjoy the car from the inside as well as the outside :D

So here it is......... final figure apart from the undertray which shouldn't be too bad at all as it is fairly thin and will have a foam core.

That's about 1110KG for you metrics out there........ still pretty good considering that is everything as it will race apart from a bit of wiring and a few little bits here and there......... so 50KG over what I hoped / guessed at the start, but we have done more than I expected too so I guess all in all a good effort and with 600-700HP when we go turbo it should have a good power to weight as well !!.

Fraser, I'm telling you, it's all that RED paint!!! (ok, the compressor too).

I have found that the cheapest way to reduce weight (presuming you've been diligent in the build), is through fitness training! I started an intense training program about 9 months ago in anticipation of getting back into racing soon, & I immediately dropped 22 lbs of "Corona weight"! Not only that, I can get back into a driving suit I wore 16 years ago (not that it's technically up to spec).......but the point is; we all have certain items we want to include in our racecar that don't necessarily fit the model of "weight reduction at any cost".....but we include them because that's WHO we are!
There is no shortage of wowie-zowie componentry at any given ALMS event, but can you really AFFORD a C/F ARB "tube" with titanium blades & gun-drilled fasteners (@ $ 4,000)?

I wouldn't worry about shaving any more weight until you are confident you have mastered the setup & power delivery (& driving skill), & are convinced there isn't a hundredth left somewhere!

Great Job....go drive the Hell out of it!

Yeah we made molds of the front guards as we did modify them quite a bit....... the molds we made are good, but the original guards I bought were all over the place.

I'm not really concerned over the extra weight when you put more power in to compensate...... I really just wanted something I could compare against other race cars and road cars which are mostly NA.

Had a bit of a hunt around and found these interesting power to weight comparisons as well...... the first one is based on 350HP in NA form as the calculator wouldn't compare to anything if I gave it turbo figures.....

BMW M5 (E60) - (278)
Ferrari 550 Maranello - (287)
Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG - (295)
Porsche 911 GT3 RS - (997) (302)
Porsche 959 - (315)

My NSX is 315.32

Also did a calculation on

Bugatti Veyron - 987HP - 4162lb = 4.2
Bugatti Veyron Supersport - 1184HP - 4162lb = 3.5
NSX at 650HP and 1110KG = 3.8

so it's amazingly close.......really makes me feel better about the whole thing !

so, I guess the first group are hp/ton ... or perhaps ps/1000kg?
and the second are lb/hp ... right?

Is it clean? can we enter it into the hottest NSX contest track only cars? You only have 2 other cars as competition! You can win an NSXprime plaque and an SOS gift certificate.

Hi Dale,

I can't answer that yet as I have my unit (waited months for it) but I haven't wired it all up yet, that is happening after the New Year ..... so I can let you know then, but they have been testing for quite some time so I expect them to be fairly mature, product wise.

Turbo2go.....yes it's clean, but I've just had a photoshoot for the biggest car magazine in NZ and do I can't put any photo's out there of it really till the magazine comes out on Feb 6th !! :( other than the mostly finished ones I posted already, but it looks so much better now with everything cleaned and wing mirrors on and few other finishing touches.....

Where's this competition happening ??? URL ??

OK so yesterday was the day, but despite the best efforts of all involved (11pm finish) we didn't get there......... then today was the day, but it didn't look like it was going to play ball today either as we were having real trouble getting oil pressure to the engine, but eventually through hard work and tenacity we finally got oil pressure and the beast was alive !!!

Then we realised we'd got the cylinder order mixed up in translation as it were so there was some head scratching at first till we figured that out then it was a quick wiring change to solve that and now it was running on 6 instead of 2 !! LOL

I have to say a massive, massive thank you to Chris, Bam and Ash from Speedtech NZ for their efforts to get the car going just before the big show. Not that we needed it to be going, but it certainly will make loading and unloading easier for sure and it's just an awesome feeling to finally say it moved under it's own steam !!!

So all was going well till we realised that I had managed to hook up one of the water overflow pipes into the wrong fitting and it had in fact been filling the intake system with water all this time and we were rediculously lucky to not hydraulic the motor entirely and bend a rod, but we did realise in time and some swift unbolting of the whole intake system and throttle body and the removal of 2.5-3 litres of water.......... yes that's not a typo !!! remove the plugs etc etc and get all the water out of the system and we were back in business again properly this time with the water pipe in the correct place !!! I can only claim that lots of late nights in a row lead to putting the pipe on the wrong fitting as they're one above the other so easy if you're not trained and not paying attention !!! Lesson learnt.

Now the mad rush to get the final prep work done before it makes it way slowly up the North Island (just over 600KM's) for the Nationals on Saturday (travelling Friday).

Sorry for the crappy video....... it was on my phone and was all I had..... I will try get a better one for you soon so you can hear it properly........ Figured it was better than no video at all !

wow.... it's fantastic to read that the work is finally done!!!!!

So the show is all done and so I thought I would post some picture of the car we took at the end of the show as no one other than the show go'ers have seen it with it's new front splitter / undertray and the side skirt extensions........ the Performance Car magazine we did the photoshoot for is due out on February 6th but the photoshoot was done before we even had that extra stuff finished.

Once again sorry for the average pics........ we were in a rush at the end of the show and my camera skills aren't the best anyhow and the flouro lights in the showgrounds screw with the autofocus........ I will get some better ones done soon but thought this would be good for those who couldn't make it.
