Down Under Trackday NSX

Well the day has finally come when I can call the bodywork side of things finished......... we just have a few little bits to tidy up but nothing more than a few hours and as you can see it's looking like a car again !!!!!! great to have a windscreen !!!

As always, photo's don't do it justice, and definately doesn't do the colour justice but you get the idea !!!!!!

thanks sooooo much to Zac and the guys from Classic auto refinishers who helped get the paint looking so good......

OMG it's a hellaflush widebody!

Great job! looks terrific.

Hi Dale,

1. It's not fully functional yet as the tank had a small leak when I pressurised it for the first time, but got enough pressure to get the front off the ground and the rears about half up, but didn't have the pressure to do what it needed to as it was only about 100psi and needs to be 200psi really I think, but I didn't want to risk it with a hole in the tank in case something went bang since it's only thin alloy.

2. Nah....... red is faster remember so the weight will be offset by the extra speed from the colour. !!

tbnsxt, I'm running 295/30/18 on 18x10.5 on the rear and 245/35/18 on 18x8 on the front. Hoosiers.

Don't you think the radiator is a little vulnerable with no protection from either side via a grille or something?

Just the fuel system to plumb in, radiator pipes to put on to the radiator and main wiring as nothing is wired up at the moment other than the loom in the engine bay which is pretty much done, just need to power the windows, ignition etc, and then tune.

We are running it on E85 Ethanol so it will have a special tune for that and we will also tune for normal 98 octane petrol in case I can't get E85 (endurance events for example).

It's just that the bank is empty for now, so I won't be doing any more till the new year, so maybe March it will hit the track.

Pink will work fine but it might add some mood swings to your posts. As you can see here:

Now THAT'S funny!

Can't see the video as it says it has to played inside the US.......

Sorry Fraser, couldn't find another link. Just a joke on dale talking about pink. You can google annuelle SNL and see if anything pops up. It was a funny saturday night live skit on NBC.

Just wanted to report back Dale, regarding your question on the airjacks !

Finally got the 200psi pressure I was told I needed, but it's not enough ! Gets the front off the ground with ease, but the rears is close, but no cigar !

I got back in touch with them and they said it should be OK at 200psi, but then I got an e-mail later from them saying they made a mistake and it was more like 300psi !! Grrrrrr.....

Anyhow, there are a couple of options.

1. Stick with the onboard compressor and use a pressure amplifier to get the pressure up to 300psi or more then regulate it back to what I need for the airjacks.

2. Just put a high pressure dive tank or similar onboard and just regulate that back to what I need and then have to refill that tank manually rather than using a compressor on board..........

Only issue I have is that with the high pressure cylinders, I'm not sure what the safety issues are there in a large shunt considering it will be based in the front (even though it is well back).......... it's a lot of pressure to have on board in case of a fire or crash, but then again they allow such high pressure tanks on board for F1 and other categories to run pnuematic systems so I guess it's not that unusual.......

Will have to report back once we've found a good solution.

what does the car weigh as it sits?

I haven't put it on the scales yet, but I have moved them down there to weigh it early next week.

Last time I weighed it, it was 2227lb and all that has been added since then is fuel tank, windscreen, dash, centre tunnel, battery, airjacks and equipment so I'm hoping it will be bang on our original 2315lb target....... might be over, but as long as it's close, I will be very happy.

Will report back on Monday.

Is this the manufacturer? They don't know what their own jack needs?! "we made a mistake?" LOL

Well a bit happy and a bit bummed out today........ Happy cos things are really coming together in the build still and it's really good to be nailing different parts of the build finally and saying "well thats this section done" etc etc, but I finally weighed the car today and it's heavier than I wanted......... :( but if I'm honest I think I kinda expected we would go over a bit as weight certainly hasn't been a priority.

There is certainly a good 40-50KG we could remove not easily in some senses, but we know where it is and we know how to get rid of it for something lighter and that's half the battle sometimes, but still overall fairly light car considering the size and complexity of the cage, as well as the full interior we did with carbon dash and centre console..... the airjack setup etc etc....... guess it all adds up...... one thing a lot of other cars don't have is something as simple as a passenger seat and belts which do definately add up.......but I want people to be able to enjoy the car from the inside as well as the outside :D

So here it is......... final figure apart from the undertray which shouldn't be too bad at all as it is fairly thin and will have a foam core.

PB240347-1.jpg

That's about 1110KG for you metrics out there........ still pretty good considering that is everything as it will race apart from a bit of wiring and a few little bits here and there......... so 50KG over what I hoped / guessed at the start, but we have done more than I expected too so I guess all in all a good effort and with 600-700HP when we go turbo it should have a good power to weight as well !!.

that's a very light start point ... and shedding that other 50kg can just be a bonus hobby over the next few years, between winnng track events
