Deleted Rear Hatch And Created This, Thoughts....

I could leave it alone from the manufacturer and have it look like an autobot.

I could add on other parts like wing, spoiler, widebody, rims, snorkel, supercharger and it would look like a super autobot.

I could take stuff off, cut, change, deleted, mold, melt, weld and have it look like a deceptacon.

Either way, it looks like a transformer.

I embrace and welcome love/hate comments that will improve the situation.

However, comments without reasons or call to actions are hard to read. Please follow up with because.....for improvement....... and please minimize the Plato and Socrates impersonation.

For example: aerodynamics, materials used, alternatives, a different strategy, have you thought of.....

This way, we can move forward.

Again, going back would mean an everyday NSX.

+2

I don't like it at all

Couldn't you remove some more weight by sandblasting all the paint off the exterior?

Charlee,
After 10+ years being on Prime, I can tell you that doing anything more than OEM specs will upset the majority of NSX owners. What you did to your car is not in the norm, so don't expect the norm responses.
IMHO, car enthusiast like you and many on this board shouldn't have to ask for opinions on how to mod "your" NSX. Just do whatever that makes you happy...period.

Thanks for the white fender. I have not used it; would never dare cut that up. I missed several oppurtunities where the NW group met. Hope to meet up with you all one day.

There's one flaw in your rationale, this thread was started with:

What do you all think?

So people are posting their thoughts on your project, and those thoughts are tending negative; the onus isn't on the community to help you modify your car, it's on you to research what's available, and make the best decision you're able to make.

If you didn't want negative feedback on this item, you shouldn't have started a thread asking for reactions.

thanks,

do you have any thougts for improvement other than putting the OEM glass back on?

If I wanted a replacement rear window -
probably would use the following material:

ACRYLITE 249 - same acrylic used in the F/A-18 canopy and windscreens

-

have these guys make it since the F-15 & F/A-18 canopies are their work

although it would probably cost more than an NSX off the showroom :frown:

hmm you could call it "the rear facing hanabal" I don't know how much drag the added turbulance would produce, and who knows if it would be a net anything with 30 lbs removed:confused:

Ah, finally a substitute I can use. After taking the car up to 80mph, the wind created too much flutter.

Back to square one.

Thanks for the link, this is a highly likely option for me. I am still interested in a look that gives the NSX a longer back end. Meaning, the hatch drops down sooner.

The rear lexan+ CF scoop + stock mounting rail is about 16-17lbs where as the OEM glass and rail is about 30-31 lbs.

The FAL rear lexan is cheap from Summitracing.com $289.95, here is a link.

Hope this helps.

Here is what you need to do.

In answer to your question to my original post to this "work" you're doing. I do plan to buy another NSX eventually. Not on the immediate horizon however. I'm in the save for it mode. The next car will come after I finally make the last payment on our house next December. Then the next car will cost considerably more than the one I sold. I want the "NA3" or Zanardi.

Now back to what you are doing: I can appreciate wanting an NSX that looks different but what I believe one is after with weight reduction mods is a final development of the car that does several things:

1. Improves performance

2. That may and imho should at least attempt to improve the looks or offer something attractive.

3. Weight loss without a real objective in mind is kind of odd. What is your objective - is it just pure weight loss without regard to performance? I wouldn't think so. Again begging the question why you would think that removing the rear window was a good idea in the first place.

4. Why wouldn't it have occured to you that the turbulence factor attributed to eliminating the rear windscreen might offset any real improvement that the weight reduction would accomplish? Again form should follow function - a basic design standard/concept.

What occurs to most on Prime when looking at mods for the NSX is that the final product should be something that not only improves performance but keeps aerodynamics in mind and the original beauty of the NSX intact. NO??? Are you a big track junky? Is this just "le grande experimente", what is it that is driving you? The answer to this question would surely solicit more constructive comments from us Primers I'd think. I can't be the only one that is confused here.

The NSX to most of us is a beautiful machine like it came from the factory so naturally to most of our eyes a mod should not only enhance performance but offer an appeal to the aesthetics of the car. At least something that would add some interest to the look - not just chopping something off in hopes that it will work. To most of us there wasn't enough thought put into the actual end result even though you tried to make a nice finished look to the change. I actually respect that but that was a lot of work for something that to most of our eyes surely did nothing for the look of the car or it's aerodynamics, which we all love.

Otherwise why not just start over with a new "Charlee" design in fiberglass - that would loose some real weight! It might even be an excercise in beauty as well - bring out the artist in you!

Keep trying - it will come to you I believe.

Charlee, there was a thread on this before, I believe Chris at SOS knows as does Scorp, this is a leftover piece from units that were molded incorrectly from the inside or outside or something, and not quite the right size/fit. It's cheap, but I believe it does have an issue. Do a search. It's a piece SOS no longer sells because of that screwup. They have ones from a new mold I believe.

Small flag poles on the front fenders and either of:
- Decorative metal thing on the vinyl and then set a casket on it (further the hearse motif).
- Chair on hatch covered with a bulletproof lexan bubble (popemobile or dictatormobile).
