Carbon 6: Super GT Mirror

The Spoon Aero Mirrors are also Discontinued, for about a year; assuming you can locate a set, with the USD/JPY as it is, you're looking at about $1200 for a pair.

Jeff mentioned he used both the Spoon Aero mirrors, and dimensions from Dome, in creating the shape of his Super GT mirror; For a stock body the Spoon mirror is likely a better fit, since it's smaller than the Super GT mirror.

so there is a size difference in the two. was wondering about that.

Correct me if I'm wrong- the spoon aero mirrors attach to the NSX OEM location?

You can cut apart a set of spoon S2000 mirrors and piece them back together to work. I actually have a set that I did the same. There are 2 issues. First, the mounting plate is at the wrong angle, size and pitch for it to work on an NSX. A person could remake the bottom of the mount with what ever filler or casting material they wanted to make it look good. How well it lasts would be determined by what was used. Second, the material the Spoon mirrors are made from are from is a polyester resin soaked spun fiberglass matte with a black gel coat surface. They are very thin and showed quite a bit of spider cracks. I would think they could be finished and sprayed with an automotive grade color and clear and they would be fine. Again, hard to tell how it would last.

It was my opinion that starting from scratch would produce the best finished product. Then, produce them in a means that included no styrene based resins or gel coats fillers. All the internal parts were machined from aluminum and titanium and the actuator assemblies were sourced from a Honda supplier.
That by no means is the only option. (At one time I even explored plastic injection molding for the housing)

There are many casting options and material selections a person could use. They will all effect the cost and quality of the finished product.

I have not completely discounted the idea of making more. However, if I do, they will be even more limited run with a hybrid material like aramid, boron or carbon fiber with titanium tracers.
The original run of 12 solid carbon fiber ones are now done.

Any chance on making a less expensive FRP version?

No, The only real suitable option would be e-glass and that would not effect the price that much (nor would any fiberglass option). Most of the cost is in labor and tooling.

I would hate to paint a CF version thats all. I wish had the cash at the time to jump on a set in your first run.

I paint carbon fiber all the time. It is ultimately the best U/V protection. I do understand though that if it is carbon fiber, most people want to show it off.

Everytime I see this thread getting bumped I thing Jeff is making an announcement on new mirrors! The teasing is worse than being in the strip club!:banghead:

If you offered to take Jeff, I'll pay for his lap dances! Then will be our one up to get mirrors!:D I can try to make it rain with this EBT card !

I agree; it's the difference between the intention of the original item vs a technicality.

Calling out the original owners, and asking their permission for further production, is also in poor taste, since they may want to keep the mirrors exclusive, but don't want to be on record as doing so.

It's a cool mirror, and I write these things as someone who would have snapped up even the last RHD set, had I seen the update in time.
