Then look at the educational systems, then peel back the layers at the educational front.

I leaned at a very early age that the color of my skin would somehow play a very limiting factor.

Mind you that this is a NASA summer program, the kids in there were some of the brightest in the country.. Instead of hearing shoot for the stars, they are being told go work at Starbucks...
This is 2005, when questioning the teachers motives, the program director was shocked and dismayed, no teacher involved within the program would make such a statement.. there has to be a misunderstanding...
When asking the teacher what was meant by that statement, the director was given the answer " Statistics shows that this is the case...
Maybe you and that stupid "BEEYAAAATCH" were sampling from the same demographics... What in the hell makes people that stupid? I have not been to many of the major cities of the US or the world for that matter, but I would be willing to bet that your statements are so wrong...

I agree with Armondos post. It was the resposibility of the LA governing bodies to handle and prepair for the storm and its aftermath. The ball was dropped and there is no amount of "Bush bashing" that can change that. Get over it and get on with the solution.

If they only knew. I did notice that the older folks in the neighborhood were the ones keeping it going. The kids my age were happy as hell to play with each other, have sleepovers, go ride bikes, whatever. None us a gave a damn what color we were. I cant tell you how many time I went into a friends house and had the older members of the family say where I could here, "whats that whiteboy doing here". And it goes in both directions. Also when a black friend on mine and I would go to the store together, who do you think was always watched? Its real, its previlant, and its ignorant. The street slang and way of speech for "some" of the population is just an effect of modern culture. Tell me you haven't seen hispanics and whites and asians call each other the N-word as a greeting. Everyone wants to bling bling and have spinners on an Escalde. Why? Cause thats mainstream and what is seen on TV 16 hrs a day by kids. Len3.8 is a very well spoken and articulate man. Thats because he has made the choice as well as his parents to instill that in him. I dont know him personaly, and I may very well be wrong. But, Im sure he spent a good portion of his life in school working hard to be who he is. Does that need to be stressed a HELL OF A LOT more now-a-days, yes. In all walks of life regardless of color or financial status.

I have done this with myself and others. A Puerto Rican family, minus the father, who rented from me for years always on public assistance had several children. One of this kids, Josh, I met when he was 3 years old. I visited him everyday. When he was old enough I gave him odd jobs to do, the hardest or messiest ones I could find. He did them all and I paid him the going rate, plus 20% I put into an account he did not know about. He complained how tough it was, but that he didn't want to let me down. I told him his entire life was going to be that hard without schooling. He came back with "you never finished college." To which I replied " I worked very hard to get to this position, harder than I would like you to have to work."
He is the only member of his family to ever enroll and complete college. And the 20% I saved paid for his books. I am very proud of him.

At my wedding last month my best man gave a speech. Within this speech he said "Steve is more misunderstood than anyone I have ever met" He went on to say how things were bad for him at his home and how my mother changed his life. I never knew about this until my wedding day. :biggrin:
I have a hard crust and the things I do for other people I rarely speak about. I don't do things for recognition. I do things because they need to be done.

I am from los angeles so its a big melting pot here.......theres not a black or white issue here.........its just everyday life issues and up to the people whether they want to make it or not, whether the parents want to keep their kids in check and have them do good or not........Len you do have your points too although I know different parts of the US have different factors in how hard it is to make it........bottom line is everyone needs to do their part and pitch in to society in a postive way.......well hope to see all you guys at nsxpo =)

wow! when I first opened up this thread I thought that the link was going to be to a SNL performance but after watching it I sure wasn't laughing. Kanye seemed to have a hard time being articulate and was obviously talking from pain and emotion.
Living here in Vancouver Canada I have grown up only knowing life with all types of cultures which as I see it was nothing but a positive thing in our society, we have our own "issues" but in all a great appreciation for each other, our cultural heritage as well as our shared canadian identity. So as a Canadian it blows my mind how black/white the USA is. Yes times have changed and slavery & segregation is over but even so to some extent blacks and whites are just as far apart. I find it amazing that a black person might get lynched walking into the "wrong" country bar, or a white person might get shot walking through the "wrong" neighborhood.
The disaster in New Orleans (a beautiful place with beautiful people that I recently visited) is an issue but as you can see it ignited pains that have not healed, I don't know who's fault it is if anyones as to what could have been or couldn't have been done, but what I do hear is why things can't get done. Not a George Bush fan at all, but he has it right when he said that there is no excuse to how things transpired and all they could do is the best they can now. Although he probably does not know the profoundness to this type of thinking it is the only sain thing to do.
This illudes to Americas dirty past, until Blacks are fully willing to forgive the wrong done to them and drop this HUGE victim identity nothing will change, just the same whites need to drop their judgement of blacks (and themselves) if true peace is possible. You might not like my words, but I talk from experience, my own heritage went through pain as last decade my people (i use that term lightly, all people are my people) went through some of the worst war crimes ever, I had family/friends raped, murdered, both, etc, etc.. But until you realize you are not your past, and that there is only one love and that all people are your brothers then you will never find true peace.
America seems to be going through a lot of pain, it will continue to do so until it realizes that pain is no longer needed...
