BCS needs to go away

it's still not that bad...

Commenting on the BCS before all the games have been played is POINTLESS!

Teams move up & down in the two human polls weekly based on winning and losing, therefore affecting the weekly BCS rankings.

Right now, 6 undefeated teams...

- USC vs. UCLA will sort out themselves out (assuming neither loses until they meet).
- Alabama vs. Georgia in SEC Championship will sort themselves out (assuming neither loses till then; FYI: UF is favored over Georgia this weekend!).
- Texas & VTech both have their respective conference championship games if they run the table on their remaining schedules (Longhorns have A&M & VTech has Miami remaining... so perfect season is still endeavorous)

Just hope for 2 undefeated teams at the end of regular season... :cool:

I personally don't care if they won 29 straight games.

This season is all that matters..

lets say my NFL team (Pittsburgh) goes 8-8 this year. BUT they went 15-1 last year... that's 23-9. Last year the Bengals go 8-8 (i think?) and maybe this year they go 12-4. 20-12 for 2 years.

Based on your logic, because in the longrun the Steelers have been better, they should get into the playoffs over the Bengals.
You are fogetting one very key factor, the NFL has a playoff system whereas college doesn't.

There needs to be a playoff some time down the road. It is obvious Auburn desrved to be in the National championship last year. Look at who they played all year long. Persoanlly I'm a Georgia Bulldog fan and I'm very happy and surprisd we are where we are this year. Unfortunately with our quaterback out for the Florida game I'm worried about that game right now. I have to say that USC has played a much tougher schedule than Texas has and deserves to e #1 right now. If they make it past UCLA and Cal they should definitely be #1 going into the Rose bowl considering Texas plays nobody the rest of the year. What about Va Tech having to get past Boston College and Miami and then probably Florida State at the end of year. If Georgia manages to win out after palying Tenn., Florida, Boise State, AND Auburn and potentially Alabama or LSU they deserve it also. The SEC has more teams in the top 25 than any other conference and the top SEC teams are only losing to other SEC teams. Take the top 16 and go at it in a playoff. Use the current conference championships as the first step and it won't add many games. More folks will watch the bowl games because the'll all mean something.

I think it's pretty safe to say that the only way any of us would be happy is with a playoff system. Too bad the universities don't see it that way.

So true. Wonder why they feel it is alright for all of the other major college sports to have one though? :confused:

Play BCS Bowls, then have 5th for Champion?

With playoffs, there would be equality in terms of a fair chance for all to compete towards a National Championship.

However w/ equality comes equity... meaning the spoils would have to be shared! Many universities & conferences are locked into very lucrative TV contracts and sponsorships (ie. Think NY Yankees and their media empire vs. Milwaukee Brewers and, well not much else). Also there is the long enduring conference affiliations w/ certain Bowls, the pay-outs being rather nice. Alot tradition and pageantry w/ the big-wigs & purists.

Sadly that is what it all boils down to. $$$$$$$

Whoa and don't even get me started on the Va Tech controversy. Should Va Tech win out, they could be left out of the national title game even after playing a much harder schedule than Texas. And the only reason would be because the preseason polls had USC and Texas at 1 and 2. The BCS is flawed, stupid and should be pummeled repeatedly with bar of soap in a sock.

Go friggin HOKIES!!!!!!

patience...

What's make you think that?!? Don't just assume! VTech just defeated #11 Boston College easily, faces #6 Miami next week (by then Miami might be #4 if UF beats UGA & Stanford knocks off UCLA... both are quite possible!); assuming easy wins over UVA & UNC, there will be the ACC championship game vs. likely top-5 FSU! Seriously, VTech possibly can leap frog either UT or USC in the BCS even if neither of them stumble.

Let the games play out before letting the rhetoric take hold!?! :tongue:

(IMHO, VTech is nowhere close to USC or UT... just have to wait and see!)

Well, I enjoyed returning to campus for Homecoming yesterday, booing along with 92,000 at the Coliseum as the current BCS standings were displayed, and then witnessing the Trojans rout Wazzu...should be interesting to see if this helps shuffle the standings.

Vince Young certainly shows he can run. I didn't get to watch that game, but his 267 yards of rushing is pretty impressive!

Oh...and I was secretly wishing for UCLA to beat Stanford. I must admit that I really enjoyed watching our crosstown rivals overcome an unbelievable 24-3 fourth quarter deficit. :eek:

I too was glad to see USC take care of business. Texas sure had a tough time with OSU didn't they.
Fla helped the BCS by doing away with GA's undefeated season. Now if only we can handle Alabama in a few weeks then I'll truly be happy.
In once sense though, I would like to see the remaining unblemished teams win out so there will be some controversy at the end of year. :mad:

I found this statue near the Coliseum after we decided to leave the game (48-6 seemed like a comfortable lead)...and felt that it commemorated the game. :D

That wasn't very nice. :frown: :biggrin: LOL
I can't believe we missed 5 field goals. Talk about have just about every chance to win a game and still not doing it.
Well, as long as we derail Alabama then our season is a success. :smile:

Congrats, back to #1.

BCS

I do like that #5 (for now) team :wink:

Woo hoo! But with only a 0.0038 point margin, anything could happen.

Bruins are now number 5? Hmmmm....maybe I shouldn't have cheered for them.

possibly just two undefeated after the weekend!

#5 LSU (7-1) vs. #4 'Bama (9-0) [Tuscaloosa, AL]

I feel the Bayou' Tigers should take this, somewhat comfortably. The Crimson Tide do have a defense capable of taking over a game, however their anemic offense will keep the D' on the field much longer than they should be against a quality opponent such as LSU. It might comedown to defensive scores and mental-mistakes on special teams or breakdowns... giving 'Bama the edge.

FYI, both have beat the Gators!?! :biggrin:

I too think LSU will take this game. We had the chance to beat and tie them but just couldn't quite get it thru the uprights. :mad:

Well just as we predicted, LSU wins. Although, I wouldn't say they did it comfortably by any means.
No defensive scores, no turnovers or any mental breakdowns that I can recall. That place kicker for LSU(chris jackson?) was having a tough night, kinda like AU kicker had against them.
Anyway, all that matters is scoreboard. Congratulations LSU on a great win and control of your destiny in the SEC this year.

cards fallin' into place, sorta!

Yea... so far so good! :cool: I'm even happier that Spurrier & da 'Cocks exposed the Gaytors for what they are: over-rateddd!

A smorgasboard of one-loss teams ready to step up if either the Longhorns or Trojans falter. Miami & Penn State if they win-out, I think are the only real threats to go above USC or UT if either of them lose down the stretch. 'Bama or LSU will have to face Georgia in the SEC Championship game.

USC 10-0 {plays UCLA}

Texas 10-0

Miami 9-1 {possible A.C.C. Championship Game vs. FSU/BC}

Alabama 9-1 {possible S.E.C. Championship Game vs. Georgia}

LSU 8-1 {possible S.E.C. Championship Game vs. Georgia)

Penn State 8-1

Virginia Tech 8-1 {possible A.C.C. Championship Game vs. FSU/BC}

UCLA 9-1 {plays USC}

Oregon 9-1

West Virginia 8-1
