abalone diving in month of june

Hope you guys had a good time today. Did you use Hal's abalone whistle to get them to jump in the boat?

Any crap from the Park Rangers regarding the Bumper Dumper? (pun intended)

I went down to Safeway this afternoon and got my limit.

We had a great time today. And your being absent gave us ample opportunities to talk about you behind your back.

I didn't have any extra Bumper Dumper liners, so we reached our "limit" pretty early in the morning. It wasn't pretty.

As you can see, we had a blast. Notice Hal's "abs", he got his limit.

OH MY GAWD! I don't know what worse, those photos or the thought of having a Bumper Dumber without liners.

Did Hal eat his catch before you guys departed? I noticed a "lack of abs" in the photo.

Josh, glad to hear you had the forethought to bring bail money when traveling with those guys.

Glad to hear you had fun and got your limits.

I had wonderful thoughts today which I assume was a product of you guys talking behind my back. Thanks for the postive feedback guys.

i had a great time, guys - thx for (another) good day!

(josh and i made it home ~20 mins ahead of my normal arrival time. a half hour later, i was on site @ the concert.)

I had a fantastic time! Big thanks to Hal for introducing me to the sport and taking the lead on the trip!

Great to meet you Ken!

Next time we get together, lunch/dinner/whatever is on me!

-Josh

Here are a couple more pics (the last one is the tomatoes I picked from the yard when I got home - 11 different varieties!)

so, next time you're bringing the fresh salsa, right?

you're a great dive partner and welcome w/us any time, josh. please return the bedpan as it's needed here @ the ranch

250' is WAY deep for sport diving. As far as PADI is concerned, the "bottom of the ocean" is 130'. I have seen 150' a couple times and 165' once, butI was in visual contact with my group always.

The poor kid was only 22 years old. Frankly, I don't see how that qualifies as 'highly experienced" unless he's been diving every day of his life since being certified at age 12.

Sad news though.

diving in 250' is pretty serious business and, frankly, i can't imagine doing it for sport. (iirc, my deepest was ~140' and that was enough for me.)

very sad for the diver's family, frank and any water.

I was just at Any Water Sports on Tuesday and Wednesday buying some gear. I think I actually saw that guy in the shop... Eek!

250' is well beyond recreation diving, but the article does say they were doing 'tech' diving. That's pretty hardcore stuff though, mostly done for commercial reasons.

here's an updated article on this accident - he sounds like quite a young guy and a very experienced diver. i've known frank for >20 years and know him to be an extraordinarily safe diver / partner.

of course, bad things can - and do - happen in much shallower water... it's a part of the sport.

:(

Oh, did I have a great lunch today.
really good stuff, isn't it, ken?

josh came over to the house yesterday morning for an introduction to hive inspection (yep, doug - josh is interested in keeping bees :eek::eek: and was telling me about the ab dinner w/his significant other (i'll let him share those details if he cares to.)

i anticipate heading up again ~mid-sept so if you, josh or others are interested in hitting the water again, let's go get 'em!

glad you enjoyed the lunch, ken - i love ab!

Re: ab diving in month of september

i'm heading up to ocean cove on thurs, sept 17th, any / all ab divers are welcome to join in.

hal

sounds great, ken. my diving partner from the 80's / early 90's (not his age ;) will likely be joining us, too.

josh? doug? kool?

Yes?

guys,

the doc says i'm good to go on ab diving as long as no great white bites or blunt force trauma to the head are involved. (ken, that means you'll have to quit hitting me every time you get an ab!)

any body up for a day in the water over the next week or two? season ends @ the end of november.
