So I've been tinkering around the idea of eventually making some custom fixed headlights for the sharp nosed NSX. I really like the original lines of the NSX and I am a bit biased since that is the version I own. I will say that I am a bit displeased with the 02+ style headlights from the side view. The hump is just not attractive to me, but it's still awesome looking from the front. Not trying to start any flame wars between post 02 vs pre 02s. A NSX is essentially a NSX thanks to Honda's lovely refreshments over the years.

I've been watching the custom headlights made in the groupbuy section and I finally saw an undershot of the headlights. It appears very simple and it gave me confidence that I can pull this off my way, eventually...

Anyways, I pulled up my old model of the 02 stlye that I made in Rhino way back. It was one of my first cars in Rhino and so revamping a rough model took some work. I modified it to the pre 02 style and started generating some concepts via 3D for the fixed headlights. I came up with a couple of different ones, but they were quite ugly and I am now showing the version that I am most pleased with so far.

So this current concept, of which I will deem the NSpec NSX headlights, look similar to the 02+ style. I modified the hoodline of the headlights to be less boxy and resemble the dynamic shape of the 02+ style better. This is the most practical way I can think of without replacing the bumper and fenders, next to just replacing the headlights by themselves. In its current state, the idea is to mold eyelids to hood to cover the headlights. See below. I will try this style with the original boxy shape next, as I think it may not be so bad looking?

Enough chatter, here are the pics. Give me some opinions. PS, I know the wheels are outrageous and would never fit like that on an NSX, so try to ignore some minor details. :)

I like them too, except the bit where they meet the front bumper. Too square.

Those look great on a CAD/CAM design level.

How do you expect to get the lamps that far back and low without cutting out part of the frame of the car?

Well... a product like this would keep me for convert to 02+ frontend.

couple of thoughts:

- the hump on the OEM 02 lights is there because the projectors can not be placed much further back. In this design, they are indeed way back... is there enough clearence on the back to do this?? as you have a 91-01 NSX, you could do some measures

- looking at your photo straight from the front, i think it would look better if you switched the projectors in the housing.... the bigger one on the outside and the smaller on the inside...it would look "meaner"... more agressive

Wow. If this design will actually work without having to cut or otherwise modify the unibody, I'd be all over them. Keep up the good work!

exactly my thoughts

Great idea......I think Honda would have done it if it could of been done.....Stay with it.....it could be the best mod for the buck available if you can pull it off!!!!

OK.........Now I want to know, what wheels are those...they look GR8!!!!!

P.S. My 91 had a custom F40/MargaHill bumper, to keep the headlights lower we had to cut the actual bumper support.

Very cool, indeed. I like. Also, I actually like the wheels as well. Especially, in the first pic.

I dont mind a minor hump as long as it is equal to or lower than the 02+ hump.

Also, to make the line flow better, stagger the highbeam projector more forward than the low beam. Now that would look sick.

Well, in it's current state, the low beams are pushed back beyond possibility. I think the high beams are up far enough. Going into this, I always figured that the housing for the projectors only need 4-5 or so inches of depth. I based this understanding off how low profile the 300ZX headlights are:

So I guess it would be in my best interest to find the shortest projector housing also? The lowbeams would need to be pushed up some more to directly clear the frame. I will try to be more precise on the next iteration as I am still weighing the idea of the eyelid being molded into the hood to change the shape of the headlights. It would be more practical to just insert the headlights and play instead of getting more body work done to the hood... I will do this version to see how it looks and also try to make the projector position more practical.

I was also thinking depending on how easy/hard it is to remove and install the headlight housing, that you would have to replace the bulbs with the housing removed. This would allow for more push back and ultra clearance. I haven't got the nerve to take my headlights off yet, so I wouldn't know, can anyone chime in on this?

Thanks all for the comments and I'll keep yall updated.

The wheels are inspired by the MB Drifters? I thought the little slot matched the motif of the NSX a bit. They have more concave, and a lip, so this would call for extremely low offsets lol.

Are those actual wheels? They look awesome on the white car...Would not stay clean. The silver painted finish is interesting too....Chrome and Polished is a pain and the silver paint might actually last longer?

I've been looking for a fixed conversion for a long time, been very disappointed with recent offerings and can't find some of the nice older ones anymore. If you can do what you have shown (and I really think it CAN be done this way, I do design and manufacturing engineering for a living) and make it drop in for a standard pop up car, I would be very interested.

Your design looks great! Dumb question . Does anyone know if LED's can be used (instead of projectors) in view of the apparent, limited space?

The new v10 Audi R8 is the first production car with LED headlights.

Give em a call.

I would imagine the technology is rapidly approaching. We're just a couple years too early for it to be cheap enough to replicate.

Wow, took my breath away. Love the head lights profile in all angles. Can you post a pic in yellow? I just want to see what the interior housing would look best. Are we going to hear group buy soon?

Now this is the kind of fixed beam conversion I've been waiting for. Those renders look sick!

very nice man .. wow, good luck, this can be very successful if indeed is doable!
