Only use Honda coolant (very low in acids and important to this engines many metals).
The coolant tank leaking/cracking in this car is a known problem. With engine cool, fill to a level line and keep an eye on it. It should stay at that level when cool.
Welcome to NSXPrime.
I drove the 458 there because all the instructors there recommended that car above all the others. My instructor gave me 2 extra laps because I was held back by other cars/drivers (the extra laps are their option). I was amazed by the car but it seemed just when you get the accelleration...
No. The guage sending unit is right next to where the hose from the coolant tank connects to the engine. The connector just pulls off. If it test OK, make sure to use teflon tape or pipe dope when reinstalling.
I didn't vote for "gauge problem". I said gauge "sending unit" problem. I haven't read of a bad temp guage on these cars yet. The coolant leaking at the radiator could also indicate loss of pressure which could cause a spike in temp. Finding that leak would be first on my list .
I don't have a Targa, so unless they're used to hold something in place for the targa, I don't think the plugs (the way the nibs are slanted they look like a push-plug to hold something in place) are NSX related .
You guys are doing a nice job on analyzing this, but my vote is the temp guage sending unit is bad and the engine wasn't ever overheated. I just base this on reading other posts and having read the guage sending unit has been a known failure on this car. Good Luck!
I'd be interested to hear (no pun intended) if these tips change the sound. I really like the sound now (with the quad tips) and am not sure I would like it to change.
When you say "sheared off", do you mean the threads on the studs are stripped? It could just be the last person to take the wheel off didn't retighten the nuts when he put the wheel back on (some people - me - do not tighten/torque the nuts until we lower the car onto the wheel). How many turns...
- I like opening my engine bay
- No pressure on the cord by closing anything
- No scratches yet
- Less visible = more likely to accidentally move car with it attached
- Whatever -
There's no difference in the performance of charging the battery that I know of - both work fine. Why Acura recommends jumping the car from the engine bay fuse block, I'm not sure .
OK, I'll try:
First picture is the cord going into the engine bay (fits easily between the fender and trunk seam - with everything closed), second is the cord attached to the quick disconnect of the Battery Tender Jr, third is the cord disconnected, fourth is the attachment to the positive...
Could be the ignition switch. Have the wife hold the switch to the start position and check the voltage at the starter. If no voltage, it's not the starter .
If the fans are not coming on then you'd assume it's a bad sensor telling your guage something that isn't true. A bad thermostat usually causes long engine warm up times. I've used 2 words, assume and usually, that shouldn't be used when high engine temps on this car are in question (overheating...
IMO - It makes a cleaner install to connect the wiring to the terminals suggested for jump starting in the engine compartment fuse panel. No need for extensions and the wire leaving the engine compartment slides easily between the gap in the trunk and fender.
I guess RM Racing did different style tips. Mine don't look like the photo and all four tips are functional. I don't know why you couldn't just buy a 90 degree bend and angle cut the end for a tip .
Sounds possible to me. Maybe we can talk DonK into bringing those fritters he keeps talkin about (I think he's out with a shoulder replacement - though - he could still bring fritters ). So, tentative for May 19th, on my calendar.
The last drive we got together at the Bently dealer for their 1st Saturday of the month "cars and coffee", drove the back roads to Pacific and stopped at The Great Pacific Coffee Company (large outdoor or indoor seating areas). Nice roads - good food. My $.02.
It's either no fuel or no spark. Do you have fuel pressure - may be bad fuel pump??? Do you have spark - may be bad ignitor???
You can disconnect the fuel line coming from the fuel filter to the fuel rail, put it inside a gallon jug and have someone turn on the key. The fuel should come out...
