Your'e driving tunes?..... From Aerosmith to ZZ top

Hi John,
I've got 3 more years on you but I still feel fairly young, at least until I see all the songs and artists listed in this topic that I've never even heard before. I'm burning my CDs using a CD recorder, not by computer and the recordings are extremely easy to do and coming out great. I'm a classic rock person as you've probably figured out. I don't know, I just can't get into the new music. The old music while I was in high school and early college just sounds better to me. I guess to each his own.

I have about 1200 miles on my car now and wondering when I should do the first oil change. The oil on the dipstick still looks like new and people on this forum says I should leave this break-in oil for a few more months or miles. BTW, did you ever decide to go ahead with the interior swap?
Anyway, hope to see you at the Palos Verdes Concours.

akira,

I **love** your custom tunes... by and large, a very fun group of tunes... musically perfect? (such as harmonies by the beau brummels... just kidding, put the flame thrower away!) nah... but as i was reading the list i could hear most of the tunes in my head and thought "yeah, those'd do".

cheers.

Some favorite albums for the 'X:

All 4 Outkast albums, especially Aquemini and Stankonia
D'Angelo - Voodoo (also an *amazing* album to get it on to)
The Roots - Things Fall Apart
Beck - Odelay
Radiohead - Kid A
DJ Shadow - Entroducing
Gorillaz - Gorillaz
UNKLE - Pysence Fiction
U2 - War
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Dust Brothers - Fight Club Soundtrack

Just to name a few...

All you Yes/Rush fans.. check out the music from my recording engineer's awesome band Cinema.

I will be posting mp3's at: www.fadeintoneed.com/cinema
bookmark it.

This is what Yes and Rush wished they sounded like now.. and much more accessable.

Eric,
May I have those 4 CD's? OK, so can I give you some CD's to burn for me when I see you at PV event?(those are a must have) I will bring my video camera with the footage from the Prime Drive for you to copy(that's if you still want to). Still got that job for me?

Calvin,
If it was my car, I would change the oil at about 1500 miles. Rumor about that break in oil is soooo overrated. Your car was broken in before you got it at the test track

in Japan. You know they drive'm fast there. No wonder the CD's aren't worth a cr@p that I TRY to record. What do CD burners run? Going to PV?

It's not a rumor. There IS break-in oil in the engine, according to the guy who is Techline (technical support for dealer service departments) for the NSX at Acura HQ.

I would suggest waiting at least 5 months or 5,000 miles before changing out the break-in oil, and then reverting to your normal change interval (my target interval is 3,750 miles or 4 months, but many people use 3K miles or 3 months).

Things I'm listening to lately when I'm not listening to VTEC...

- Rheostatics
From Canada. One of the most innovative "alternative" bands I have ever heard! They masterfully combine a modern rock sound with progressive rock. Lots of unusual cord progressions, dynamics, and multiple textures. Sounds like the Beach Boys meets REM meets Pink Floyd.

- Jeff Beck
His newest album combines techno with his guitar playing. Here's a guy who's in his 60's and has totally re-invented himself. This makes for great driving music.

- Michael Knott
Alternative Christian artist with incredable honesty in his lyrics-- enough so that he manages to offend many Christians. Fairly innovative, and not at all preachy, he has experimented with a number of different styles over the years. My current favorite album is "Rocket and a Bomb" where Mike sings songs about all the wierdos (himself included) that lived in a cheap apartment complex in Hollywood where he used to live. After listening to this guy for a while, I can't believe how stilted and contrived most artists lyrics really are.

- Ozric Tentacles
British neo-psycadelic. All instrumental, somewhat of a free flowing sound. Most songs have a driving beat that makes for great driving music too.

- Roger Waters
I recently discovered his "Pros and Cons of Hitchiking" album from the mid 80's. This is an amazing album with first class lyrics and guitar playing by Eric Clapton. Better than any of the newer Pink Floyd stuff.

- Miles Davis
I see couple others on here listed him too. So far I have "Bitches Brew" and "Aura". Both are amazing fusion albums. Wondering what I should get next?

Now if I could just get that POS Bose equipment out of my car and replaced with some real gear...

Boy, here goes my lame list of cds in my changer.

Best of SADE-below V-Tech
Best of Blondie- just below V-Tech
Best of Duran-Duran-entering V-TEch
Best of Bon Jovi-OOOOHH!!! Don't stop
Best of Billy Idol-This is great
Limp Biskit-I'm done

SANTANA'S "Put Your Lights On"

Hey now, all you sinners
Put your lights on,
Put your lights on
Hey now, all you lovers
Put your lights on,
Put your lights on

Hey now, all you killers
Put your lights on
Put your lights on
Hey now, all you children
Leave your lights on, you better
leave your lights on

Because there's a monster
Living under my bed
Whispering in my ear
There's an angel
With a hand on my head
She says I've got nothing to fear

There's a darkness
Deep in my soul
I still got a purpose to serve
So let your light shine
into my home
God don't let me lose my nerve
Lose my nerve

Hey now, hey now
hey now, hey now
Wo-oh hey now, hey now
hey now, hey now

Hey now all you sinners
Put your lights on,
put your lights on
Hey now, all you children
Leave your lights on
Better leave your lights on

Because there's a monster
Living under my bed
Whispering in my ear
There's an angel
With a hand on my head
She says I've got nothing to fear
She says, Whooo-ahha hey
Lala, you shine like stars
And fade away

Still got that job for me?

Bring 'em along and I'll bring my stuff. How long is your Prime Canyon tape? I'll need to bring enough video tape to make the transfer (those miniDV cassettes only hold an hours worth).

Tape is about 30-45 mins. with about 15 mins. worth of good footage. Keep in mind that my wife(no offense) did the taping. ALOT of movement happened. The job I was referring to was the dents in both your cars. CD's?

Well, my wife will be driving to this thing seperately (she doesn't want to get stranded amongst a group of car nuts for the full duration of the day). You're not implying that you would do THAT job at the show though, right???

Cool about the length of footage...I should be able to squeeze it on the same tape that I used for covering that recent "exotic car gathering". My wife did a lot of taping there too (and, in most cases, did a better job than I did...I was a little too into the idea of quick MTV-like camera movement).

Geeze - How about 600 hours of mp3's?? That's 31GB of disk space...

My music tastes have been alot more towards the electronic genré: Acid jazz like Kruder & Dorfmister, DJ Mark Farina, Coldcut and for when I'm feeling a bit more energetic I'll listen to house / techno / trance style with Deep Dish, Daft Punk, Paul Johnson, Carl Cox, Matt Darey, Keoki, Parks & Wilson, Sasha, Oakenfold, or for the jungle / Drum & Bass days I go with Dieselboy, DJ Dara, & AK1200... There's also some that I listen to that really can't be put into a catagory... Les Rythmes Digitales... And my all time favorite music style - ELECTRO BREAKS! Like Uberzone & Simply Jeff...or Mr. Oizo! Now you guys know where I got my nickname...hehh!

It's not always electronic music though... I love classic and hard rock to heavy metal too... Pantera, Sepultura are my favs for heavy metal... clapton and zepplin for classic rock... blink 182 for "modern" rock... There are just sooo many to list!

I don't have that many miles on my car! I'd have to average 30 mph to listen to it all to get the same mileage I already have.

I just wanted to say I'm the 90th post on this thread ....heh!

I wish I could have all my mp3's in my car... but then again I'd have to buy one of those empeg players... I'm fine with getting an in-dash mp3 player that plays them from burned cd's.... that'll sufice!

What's the record for the most posts? Was it that 16 year old wanting an NSX?

Yes. that record currently stands at 93. This is post number 91.

Just when you thought this thread was going to finally die out...

You know electro, I think I might have you beat. =)

How does a grand total of 65+ gigs of mp3's sound? Add another 15+ gigs of movies and videos....

Wait, I guess 31 gigs is about right for you. considering how much 'crappy' music I have that you didn't want...

Muahahaha

Not just to keep the thread alive

but has anyone here put a mini disc receiver in their NSX? I bought a mini disc portable about a year ago for travel and it is just about the coolest little thing that I have ever owned! I went on to buy a home system that included a mini disc changer and I'm gradually copying many of my cds over to md plus making mix discs. Eventually I would like to have MD in the car also and dispense with CDs.

The NSX Model List Page

My NSX came with a minidisc player in it. I've never used it. The Alpine system has an LCD and a surround processor. If you pull the face off the processor, there is a minidisc player underneath.

Lud,
I wouldn't say that minidisks are better than MP3's just different. Minidisks are recordable and removable and the media is very inexpensive. Most Mp3 player / recorders use some type of memory card that uses flash memory. This type of media is much more expensive than the minidisks. Both record digitally, both aren't subject to skip. Mp3 players can be smaller because they don't have to be able to load a disk. You also can get MP3 players that use a hard drive and can store thousands of songs. The minidisk can only hold about an hour of music per disk.

This is probably more info than you wanted, but I hope it answered your question.
