Your'e driving tunes?..... From Aerosmith to ZZ top

Wow! I'll have to do more shopping and buy some of the CD's that were mentioned here. Some that I forgot about and some that I've always wanted. Napster + NSX'ers = NSXTER file swapping service.(LUD?) It's good to see the CD's that I've wanted and can't remember the names here! No country I see? That's too sad for me, lost my dog and my girlfriend left me and my truck broke down.

I'm pretty sure setting up an MP3 swapping service would bring down the wrath of many lawyers (see Napster...)

However, if you guys just post the song names here, you can find almost any of them on Gnutella or other MP3 search systems.

Maybe a good thread for the Off Topic forum would be music swapping/search services?

Currently, I have...
Best of Miles Davis
Depeche Mode The Singles 86>98 Disc 1
Two discs of burned Top40 Hits and R&B
Carreras Domingo Pavarotti IN CONCERT

And as a tribute... a compilation of Aaliyah songs... What a tragedy :-(

Hey, why not burn some disks as a compilation:

Buddy Holly
The Big Bopper
Ritchie Valens
Otis Redding
Jim Croce
Lynyrd Skynryd
John Denver
Aaliyah

You could call it "The Music Flies On".

Yes, all of the plane deaths of artists are tragic. I may have to do just that... thanks for the suggestion, Ken.

Even though it was a helicopter, you have to add Stevie Ray Vaughn to that list!

My favorite CD for the NSX is a remake of Jimi Hendrix tunes which includes artists such as Eric Clapton, Living Color, and The Cure playing some of his greats. It is incredible.

I also like to listen to Willie Nelson cranked up in rush hour traffic just to see the looks it generates. By the way, bad ole Willie owns an original Shelby 427 Cobra and drives it!

Hey, Bill my neighbor has a 427 Cobra that he bought right after he graduated from college. He still drives his too. I love to hear that thing take off on a Sunday morning. What a way to be woken up!

add to this list (at least):
rick nelson
patsy cline (i believe)

I'm certainly not ashamed to admit I like Heavy Metal. I was a teenager in the '80's. I used to be a big fan of Winger (OK - maybe I'm ashamed of that)

Anyway, Progressive Metal is my absolute favorite. Some of the best musicians in the world are a part of the Prog. Metal scene. My favorite CD's are from Dream Theater, Symphony X, Shadow Gallery, and old Queensryche.

I also listen to Jazz artists like Dave Weckl(sp?), David Sanborn(sp?), and Spyro Gyra(sp?), and guitar players such as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

I have to admit, though, I don't listen to CD's much in my NSX. I prefer to listen to the engine.

Matt

Hey you have the same taste in music as I! Dream Theater rocks. Add Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson and it's perfect.

Awesome, now that I don't have to go there first, I can be honest about my musical taste. I pretty much listen to only techno (good call on the Oakenfold Swordfish soundtrack whoever mentioned that), rap/hip-hop (R.I.P. B.I.G.), and all the teenage girl singers/groups. I've seen Britney in concert twice, Mandy Moore in concert twice. Dream once, P.Y.T. once, and met Jessica Simpson. Just got my Mandy Moore "In My Pocket" maxi-single from New Zealand yesterday, and have been listening to Britney's "Stronger" maxi-single (very techno) all week long.

I did the whole '80's thing but just got burned out - still love 'em though. Since everyone loves the '80's here, let me recommend the Living in Oblivion discs (five total available from BMG) and the two Valley Girl soundtrack discs from Rhino Records.

I only listen to Britney Spears when driving my Ferrari 360

I'd like to listen to a Ferrari 360 while driving Britney Spears.

Just bought Limp Bizkit, Chocolate starfish in a hotdog flavored water. Damn, kicks ice and takes names. That CD, if you are into this, rocks and Fred Durst is one angry young man, I must say. I still need to get Tool (any suggestions on which one?) and more Linkin Park (which one also?). I have some Techno and Trance various artists that I really like. Fun to drive too and another kind of fun.

Cool, I was hoping there were some other Dream Theater fans out there. I noticed you are from Chicago. Did you see them last year on their Scenes from a Memory tour? We have family in Chicago, so we drove up there for the concert. It was at a small place called the Riviera I think. It was the best concert I have ever seen.

Symphony X's newest CD is worth trying if you liked Scenes from a Memory. It's a bit heavier than Dream Theater, though.

Matt

No, I have never seen Dream Theater in concert yet. I hear they are amazing live. DT is a progressive hardrock band. You add old timer like Rush, mix it with the heaviness of Limp Bizkit and virtuoso of Steve Vai, you sort of get Dream Theater. Symphony X is pretty good, too. Haven't bought their CD but got some Napster downloads.

BTW, I was joking about the Britney/Jessica comments.. hehe

I'm not young enough to appreciate that highschool girl next door thing nor old enough to appreciate that highschool girl who is my daughter's best friend thing.

There is a DVD available of Dream Theater's last tour. I have it and it is great. I would highly recommend you check it out.

That was a great definition of Dream Theater although I can't stand Limp Bizkit.

This will probably cause me to get blasted but I don't like any Alternative music. I do think that some of the recent bands are starting to bring back a more Heavy Metal sound. Creed is OK, so is 3 Doors Down, and Godsmack is interesting. I am a guitar player and I miss the guitar solos from bands of the 80's - Vito Bratta (sp?) from White Lion, Nuno Bettencourt(sp?) from Extreme, George Lynch from Dokken, the various guitarists that played for Ozzy. The sad fact is that most of the Alternative guitar players aren't good enough to play solos. It takes me over 3 weeks (or more) to learn a solo from John Petrucci of Dream Theater, but I could probably learn a whole CD from Korn, or Limp Bizkit or the Foo Fighters in one day (and I'm not that good). Maybe I am closed minded, but I don't enjoy music unless the musicians are very talented. Flame away....

Matt

Dream Theater. Wow. I haven't heard anyone mention them in years. Actually I never thought so many people were still into them.

My friend is a fantastic musician and he loves them. I used to have some CDs. My tastes changed from listening to very musically talented people (Satriani, Vai, etc.) to more music that is just a bunch of guys trying to express whatever passion they happen to have.

Dream Theater is great if you want to appreciate the musicians because they're fantastic, but man they bore me now. The music is too refined. Seems sterile to me. It reminds me of a rock version of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Yawn.

Flame away!!!

Alan

I'm an oldie here. I like to hear songs from the '70s and early '80s on my CD player when I'm driving my NSX. I just burned a CD with some of my favorite driving songs:

"New Year's Day"-U2
"Roll with the Changes"-REO Speedwagon
"Gimme Shelter" and "Sympathy for the Devil"- Rolling Stones
"Hitch a Ride"-Boston
"Space Truckin'" and "Highway Star"-Deep
Purple
"Livin' on a Prayer" and "Dead or Alive"-
Bon Jovi
"Won't Get Fooled Again"- The Who
"Kashmir"-Led Zeppelin
"Hotel California"-The Eagles
"Jeremy" and "Black"-Pearl Jam

Just to name a few.

Calvin,
You're not an oldie, hey I'm 37 and still kickin'. I've got to figure out this CD burner that my computer has on it. Seems to always have errors on it when I record a disc. Do you have any problems like that? The groups would be similiar for me to record also! Maybe some newer rock too. How many miles on your car now? As I recall, the end of the Prime Drive, you had 6xx miles on it.

Okay, here's an attempt at listing the tracks on my 4 CD custom 80's collection from memory:

"Nowhere Girl", "One Night In Bangkok", "Route 66/Behind The Wheel Megamix", "Call Me", "Sex", "Walking In L.A.", "Turning Japanese", "Manic Monday", "Blue Monday", "I hate Mondays", "Dear God", "Send Me An Angel", "True Faith", "Never Never", "Rock Me Amadeus", "Rock The Casbah", "My Charona", "Oh Yeah", "White Lines (Don't Do It)", "Relax", "Everlasting Love" (U2's), "Walk Like An Egyptian", "Rock Lobster", "Da Da Da", "88 Lines About 44 Women", "Major Tom (I'm Coming Home)" (Peter Schilling's English version), "Der Kommiser", "99 Luftballoons" (English version), "Forever Young" (Alphaville's), "Cruel Summer", "The Metro", "Whip It", "Don't You Want Me", "Our House", "I Want Candy", "Candy", "Accidentally 4th Street (Gloria)", "Do They Know It's Christmas?", "Hey Mickey", "Tainted Love / Where Did Our Love Go?", "Mexican Radio", "Video Killed The Radio Star", "Don't You Want Me Baby", "Love Will Tear Us Apart", "Down Under", "Tarzan Boy", "Electric Avenue", "Funky Town", "I Melt With You", "Heart and Soul", "Obsession", "Safety Dance",
Always Something There To Remind Me", "Destination Unknown"....and much much more...

Note that I barely included any of my favorite groups in this particular collection...and I own more Depeche Mode, Erasure, New Order, Electronic, Pet Shop Boys CDs than anything else.
