Which is the best BBK upgrade if you plan to track your car?

I am leaning towards the AP Racing BBK from SOS for around $4K. Is there anything else that is as good if not better for the price?

I really like the look of Stoptech but looks aren't everything. How about the BBK from Dali Racing? They haven't finished on the rears yet but I can wait if you guys thing this is the one to get.

I currently have 17x8 and 18x10 Volk AV3 wheels so I can definitely clear a BBk for the front. The rear is a possibility.

What would you recommend? Thanks.

I guess you don't follow World Challenge, many cars in Touring use the same Stoptech BBK that you can buy off the shelf.

Stoptech has excellent support and their calipers *don't* flex and they sponsor a lot of teams involved in Motorports in the US.

Sid,
It is much more difficult to have the front BBK cleared. The choice of wheels is critical. I doubt your front AV3 will clear the AP if I remember correctly. You need some very shallow wheels with no lips.

Hey Steve,
I actually have alot of clearance between my stock calipers and my wheels. I guess the best way to do it is to find NSX owners with BBK and test fit my front and or rear wheels to see if it clears before I buy any BBK. Thanks for the thought. I am going to post to see if anyone in the Bay Area is willing to help me out.

The Best:
Comptech Brakes, Powertec - 13" 4 Wheel Kit (91-05 NSX) $9,900.00

I think this is as good a kit as you can get, with the most money spent on R&D, and a price to match...

Here are links to StopTech's Fitment templates for the 91-96 NSX using an ST40R caliper with 328x28 rotor in the rear and an ST40M Caliper with 328x28 rotor in the front. Using the templates is easy. Print them out then cut along the outlines. Use a glue stick to paste them against some carboard (a tan file folder works well) and of course cut the cardboard to match the template. Then they are fitted into the hubs of your wheels and presto! Like magic you'll see if the Stoptech fits. Here are pictorial usage instructions for the template.

These are .pdf files. Right click and save them to your hard drive.

That's an overpriced Brembo kit that you get at a better discount from a lot of vendors. I think Brembo spends as much on marketing as they do on R&D plus they're publicly traded so they have shareholders to make happy besides customers. :)

Are you sure you need it? More specifically, are you experiencing problems with the stock calipers that you think a BBK is going to cure?

Also, how much track experience do you have? If you have a lot of track experience and you're using R compound tires, it might benefit. But if you're a relative novice using street tires, it won't make any significant difference. Except for the bling factor, of course. ;)

Exactly! Ken hit the nail right on the head. Although we might exchange some light hearted banter about car wax, we agree here.

Read this post.

The Comptech kit is the Indy calipers not the lotus stuff, You can not buy the Indy kit everywhere as comptech is about the only one who has it.

Its not always about the price if you want the best brakes and great quality you must go with the Comptech Kit, I have them, Kip has them and ask Andrie H about them as well and how they work on my car. And he is a Pro driver

I had 6 piston wilwood calipers and rotors before and they did now stop the car on the track at all ok for street only. The money I spent on other BB stuff I could have got the comptech and then I bought them anyway and the car stops perfect, this will be the last brake kit you will ever buy.

Good Luck,

Steve

I know alot of buzz went around the titanium rotors and 10 piston calipers. They are extremely lightweight, and rotors never warp. They say you can use a variety of pads that suit your needs. Just a pricey $10k price tag for the kit.

Correction: looks like they have gone down in price:

$3800 for a 4 wheel setup? is that right?!!

I thought ZMI went out of business. If they are indeed selling a complete front and rear for under $4K, I will buy it right now. AKJS has it and swears by it. Can anyone confirm?

I think John had said ZMI wasn't selling to the retail market anymore but could still make an NSX kit if custom ordered.

It can be ordered. I am just not sure if that price is correct. Jesus if that is right I may get a set myself.

I am going to try and find out the scoop on ZMI titanium brakes. Will post what I find later.

Check the NSX versus Ferrari Challenge Stradale thread. AJKS has these... he said there is someone on the forum that can get them?

You get what you pay for...

I went with Tarox. Originally bought a kit that had 6 pot calipers and larger rotors for the front and brackets and larger rotors for the rear. ~$2500 + customs fees and some time off to go get them out of customs.

This eliminated the fade problem with the stock setup and such but the bias wasn't correct. There was only one source for pads in the US. Carbotec. They only made 100 backing plates "proto run" They ran out. I am not aware of any us source.

I contacted tarox directly and they sold me more stuff. $4000+ more.
I got a new set of rotors all 4 corners and now have tarox calipers front and back. Fixed the bias but no ebrake. I also ordered 8 axel set of pads. I am now set for a while... But do the math... I almost spent the what I would have on the Indy set. The Indy set WORKS! I had to

I believe pads of various brands and hardness are available for Indy. Same for rotors.

Is what I have any better? I don't think so. Where do I get another set of rotors from when you need them?
There is a reason I have 6 axel sets of pads... I have to order them from Italy.

Now to tarox's credit. They are pretty easy to deal with and from the time I ordered the stuff to delivery it was around a week. But I did spent a fair amount of coin... My wife brings this up frequently!

Great performance on track...Listen to Steve, Andre & Kip...
Want bling... go with the shiny shit.

I suspect you will go with shiny.

Hay nice talking with you at sears last weekend...

Larry at Carbotec will re-pad your old backing plates with any of their compounds, just send them in...
