When you approach another NSX....you should....??!?!

Hi ppl,
These days, I see more and more NSX on the roads, as compared to few years ago. I was wondering what you guys do, when you approach another NSX owner when driving. I usually honk once (but not sure if it is a rude act?!?), and give thumbs up to the owner. In some ocassions, I will do a quick "flip-up and flash (and no this is not a gang sign)"
I am interested in hearing your response!
JACK

With enough time I'll blip the horn twice quickly and give them a peace sign.

This has not happened to me as of yet. I live in upstate NY where I would be lucky to spot a boxster. I know when I drive my NSX around heads turn like the president is parading through. So I think I would be sad if another one came into town.

If you're a cute babe, kiss-throwing and winks are greatly appreciated. Of course, an invitation to spend the night at my place or yours, or at a Motel nearby (your choice) are ALWAYS WELCOME !

Down here in our neck of the woods (San Gabriel Valley, CA), I see one almost every 5 days or so, therefore not too many folks give me the 'ohh...' looks. But that's because Los Angeles is what I consider to be the NSX capital of the world and there are more of us driving NSX's here than anywhere else.

I am in LA and I see one every 4 months if I am lucky. Perhaps, I am at the golf courses too much and not many owners play golf? I work in Pasadena and have never seen one cruising around Old Town either. I guess that's why i took it upon myself to get one. :-P

I usually flash the pop-up headlights and wave.

Here is a better question... what do you do when you see another NSX when you are NOT in an NSX?!? This happens to me quite a bit when I am in my M3.

Perhaps we should develop a secret NSXPrime hand signal that makes the NSX driver aware of our "true identity" ?!

Usually - nothing. While I welcome talking with folks who know about the car and have questions when I'm parked, when I'm driving down the road, I'm leery of strangers who are making weird gestures at me. When I become the "stranger" in an "ordinary" car, I would just as soon cede the NSX driver his privacy and not have him worry about what I might want out of him.

Happened to me way too often. Strange as it may seems, I RARELY catch another unknown NSX'er on the road whenever I'm in mine, but always run into a few when I'm NOT in my NSX.
Case in point: Not too long ago I came across a white 2 tone coupe (black top) with non-CA plate on it 2-3 weeks ago on Valley Blvd. in Alhambra, right by Far East National Bank, going in the opposite direction while I drove by him in my Stook (S2000). He looked at me with a grin so I returned the favor

and then proceeded to wave and honk. Cool!

But I do wish I had a way of telling him that I'm a NSX'er too! Oh well....

To the White NSX'er: are you on this forum? Write me so we can meet up!

Let's see...I've seen at least 6 NSX's that I cannot identify, and 2 that I know of (not counting Si's Silver 00 of course

), all within 10 miles radius of where I work/live. I even see 3 of them passing by the street where I work at! One red, one yellow '02, one yellow pre-02 T, 2 black, and a 2-tone Silver. Oh that's 6, not 3, huh?

I guess there are lots more of us out there that aren't even in this community. I love to meet up with them so I can get them to come to our events.

If it's someone going the same direction as you are, a license plate such as NSXTC JR works just fine. If you wind up next to him at a stop light, you can always start the conversation, "You know what my other car is, right?" Been there, done that...

The only reason why I see NSX's more often than others is because I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for 'exceptional and rare' cars. When I DO see an NSX, it's always going in the OPPOSITE direction, so NSXTASY's suggestions about Specialized license plates or pulling right next to them at stoplights isn't applicable in my case.

Anyway, I DO drive by Old TOwn quite often! But in my S2k rather, NOT in the Zanardi. The last time we (Si's Silver 00, Lawrence's Black 93, and my 99-Red) caravan together through Colorado Blvd. at Fairoaks Ave. was about 2 months ago. Too bad you weren't there to see us. A good half of the pedestrians waiting at the lights looked our way with awe or envy..... KooL! I'll take that look anytime!

Khuezee, is it my imagination, or have you noticed at least 3 Porsches are ALWAYS simultaneously seen in Old Town at ANY given moment, either parked on the street or driving through Colorado Blvd., day or night? Funny they all like to show up right in front of you isn't it? But I hardly see any NSX's there, except the black 00 parked in the dealership's showroom a few miles east.

I usually salute or wave...but, interestingly enough, I don't always get acknowledged by the other NSX drivers.

I am in LA and I see one every 4 months if I am lucky.

That surprises me. Like Zanardi 50, I seem to see NSXs all over the place...especially on L.A.'s Westside. In fact, during my drive to work, I see at least one NSX per day (not counting my own, my neighbor's black '91, or my coworker's black '97-T).

In addition to my coworker and my neighbor, I have personally gotten to know at least nine NSXers who work or live in the stretch from Santa Monica to Manhattan Beach...but, interestingly enough, I rarely come across them by chance.

I should add that I rarely saw NSXs before the fall of 1996 (which is when I started working with an NSXer)...and I had been on the lookout for them since they were introduced in 1990!

Well, i would totally like to meet up with you guys sometime. we can cruise old town during lunch and pick up all the hunnies!!! ill keep you posted as soon as mine arrives.

I never see any NSXs over here in Queens, NY. I have seen one about 4 months ago but the guy was a complete jerk and ignored me when I tried to talk to him. And I was in my NSX at the time. But one good thing, everytime I walk out of my house there is always one staring me in the face, even if it is my own. I can't believe people actually consider this shape long in the tooth. It is one of the most timeless of designs.

Bring your "NSX Driver" magazine with you. Next time you see a fellow NSX driver and you are not in your NSX... pull up a long side of him/her, do a slight tap on the horn, point to your NSX Driver, and see what happens.

=)

I haven't had a chance to try that yet... but I agree with Ken... I don't want to be the "stranger in another car."

I show them my NSX tatoo.Although I have to keep reworking it each time we make a change
on the car...JUST KIDDING.
Usually its one or a combination of the above
I definatly tap the horn and and wave all the time and "if possible" stop and lengthy conversations start and we part as pleasant
aquantances. Its always been a positive experiance for me.(good topic!!)
