Hi all. This is my first post to the forum but I am an active member of the acura-cl forum. Okay, I've been given the "Go" to purchase a NSX but am wondering what year to buy. I'd like a 98' or 99' but my pocket is not that full. With the prices I've seen, looks like I'm limited to a 95' or older. I'm aware of the snap ring problem with the older cars, but not familiar with other costly problems. What should I look for when purchasing an older NSX? Thanks in advance.

Well the first decision is whether or not you want a targa top or not. 95+ are targas except for the Zanardi. The next question is whether you're going to track the car a lot. If so then probably 91/92. 93 is a little heavier with passenger airbag. Go here for info on differences between models. http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/General/changesbyyear.htm

Unless you have kids I would go with a 1994. New transmission gear cut method, newer wheels, newer gauge cluster. 1991 - 1992 if you have kids because there is no airbag, and 1993 if the deal is right. Actually 1991 - 1994 is the best years in my opinion because they are coupes and OBD-I. I do not like the 1995 because of the targa. The car is heavier and I do not like the way the windshield brace flexes when driving. Either way a NSX is an NSX and now matter what year you get you will be happy. Just make sure the NSX you buy has a good story/history behind it.

What year did they implement power steering into the NSX? Or did they ever? Ive only driven a 91 and a 92 so forgive me if this may sound like a dumb question to some of you. I only assume they did because the Zanardi is known for NOT having it.

Also, you can find post'94 1/2 NSX's that are non NSX-T's as it was a purchase option. However, well over 95% of all NSX's sold after they implemented the Targa top were in fact Targa's and not the lighter slightly faster coupes. Even the auto-tranny's grossly out number the NSX coupes of post '94.

The following NSXs have power steering, as sold in North America:

1991-94 automatic transmission cars only

1995-2002 all NSXs except the Zanardi

Does anyone know how much weight a power steering adds?

Thirty-two pounds, but well worth it.

99 NSX-Z SC (360 RWHP)
95 Dinan M3 S3 (300+ RWHP, aftercooled!)
