VW doesn't use any aluminum panels in the Phaeton like Audi does in the A-8 right? I love the concealed C/C vents and the super quit air delivery of the C/C system. IMO the Phaeton is for people who like to wear their designer labels on the inside.

Panels ... not really sure. I do know that the Phaeton is a steel frame were the A8 is aluminum. Most think the two cars are "siblings" but they aren't. They share very few parts as a result of the frame difference. The Phaton's "sibling" is the Bently Continental GT (matches short wheel base Phaeton - not sold in NA) and the Bently Continental Flying Spur ... only main difference is the factor of 2 in the MSRP! That and the Bently version is flying off the lots!

I would agree on the designer tag comment. There's a good forum on www.vwvortex.com for the Phaeton. Check it out if you haven't already. My screen name is the same over there ... that way I don't forget it!

Oh ... and you might want to check this out.

Oh that was good. I should pick up a Phaeton for myself soon. I see the price on slightly used ones is pretty cheap compared to what they sell for new. I don't think I would get the 12 though. I read a report that said the 8 was a lot more fun to drive then the 12.

I think I've hijacked this thread enough but one last comment ...

With low sales, resale is horrible. Of course if you bought at say the end of 04 when they were dumping them, you got a sweet lease deal. Better than the special NSX lease and less down. Just too good to pass up. So yes, I would think you could get a great deal on a used Phaeton.

As for the difference between the 8 & 12, I don't know if I would agree with what you've heard. I would say that the two engines are a pretty similar drive. But of course there is a large price difference. But wouldn't you rather have a 12 cylinder just to have had one at one point? For me, the dealer had my color and options in the V8 and W12's just weren't prevelent around here. I didn't want to go to Houston to get one.

My understanding is that in Europe, the V10 TDI is the top of the line engine!

2001 BMW M3. Snow tires in the winter. Last year, drove it without the snow tires, got caught in 6 inches of snow 80 miles from home with 285/19 on rear, had to drive with traction control off. Brand new SO3 needed replacement by the time I got home (4 hours later).

Yeah, the electrical bugs can't seem to be squashed in the VW's... had to replace a door lock motor in the first 25k (warranty though).

i think the TDI could be a bread and butter for them out here, but they only import a few compared to production numbers. I guess when diesel is 4 times pricier on the other side of the pond they have to do what they can do.

the phaeton is a work of art. unfortunatley there isn't much of a market for an 80k VW... like you said... badge on the outside.

I have 05 RX8 for daily. The Lexus belong to the wife.

I mainly use a '99 5 BMW and recently '03 BMW 330 CIC-- SOLD them all and currently have my NSX as a daily driver for now. Looking for a SUV hybrid that's not as pricy as the Lexus model.

Never again will I purchase a BMW- only lease will do, maybe. I was sold on the cool factor of the BMW brand and that they will take care of you when things go wrong-- nothing but gimmicks. They don't even give you a loaner car when fixing under warranty :frown:

Sorry for venting off topic, but I personally wish I heard this before looking into BMW. I admit- they have great styling. The latest M5 and 6 is just sex on wheels. I wish for Toyota/Honda reliability and the claying of European style.

Sorry to hear that. However, I think the issue might be with your particular dealer. We've always gotten loaners, even on our 1997 Z3 which hasn't been under warranty in quite awhile. We also have a 2002 330i which has run flawlessly for us and might still have some warranty left on it. What kind of problems did you have with your 2003?

Edit: As far as hybrid SUV's, have you seen the Ford Escape hybrid or the hybrid Toyota Highlander yet?

what is your daily driver?

I'm sure many of us here don't drive our nsx on a daily basis, so just for fun, and something interesting, what is your daily driver?

Re: what is your daily driver?

I guess i'll start off. 1993 toyota Paseo. A real P.O.S, but very reliable a comfortable. Makes the opportunity of driving my NSX and even more glorifying experience
