What is next in making my car faster?

My rake right now is around 0.25"

Yesm 17/18. Definitely lowered.

that is where a good race shop can corner balance your car with the proper rake aka weight shift front or back. They can account for your body weight in the driver seat.....stickers ect.....

I've tried to get billy for that and driving lessons. He's a busy guy. I'd even travel to a track if I could get him for a day. I probably would learn more from him than I did at skip barber. And he would guide me in setup since hes had extensive experience with this particular suspension too. Right now besides sway bars I've pretty much done everything he recommended verbatim, even down to tire pressure suggestions.

That is a great start. Billy really knows what he is talking about especially with the NSX and KW's. Do you have a reputable setup guy near you that also knows how to drive? I was fortunate to have my setup guy also as my coach. He's a far better driver than I, a great coach and a superb NSX suspension person. This was really beneficial in helping me get quicker. It was beneficial having him drive my car to make sure it was dialed in. This was a critical step for me. During this time I was fortunate to also have Billy Johnson as a coach and I learned tons from him about driving. Billy and I didn't have to waste time fighting a poor handling setup since my car was already dialed. I think Billy still does some coaching in between his busy schedule. Maybe contact him to see if you can hire him to fly out to your home track for a weekend event and get you dialed him. You can trust him completely. I'm confident you will be exponentially more knowledgable and quicker.

Also, get a camber kit so you can run 235 front and 275 rear. My wife drives my car on the street and doesn't even complain about rubbing. Don't compromise your entire setup and driving experience with not doing this.

Believe me if I can get billy for a day/weekend, I would. I can't even get a hold of him though, not through PM or email.

On another note, are you guys aware the federal RSR 595 R compound tire comes in 215/40/17 and 255/35/18 which are the exact sizes I am running now anyway? It says this is a street legal DOT approced competition tire. Has anyone tried them? maybe they are a worse brand but they are cheap and they are the right size!!

Back to Regan's note on aero...I don't think you have this setup Dave, do you? Removes the 'parachute' effect that a bumper causes. Will probably make me .01 secs faster. ;)

Dave, check the load on the federal tires wrt to what the OEM is. I think the 215/40/17 front is a bit low!

But IMHO, I would rather have their 265/35/18 given the extra power you have - especially if your rim 9.0+. Yes this may cause a bit understeer with 215 front but they also offer a 235 front - but I am guessing with a 8 rim you may mitigate that to some degree. Don't know if the 235/265 set up will cause more rubbing than I guess the NT01 benchmark ......

Here is the size/spec: http://www.federaltire.com/download/spec595RS-R.pdf

What do you mean the 215 is low? What do you mean by low? The load rating? 1477 pounds?? That's kind of a weird spec to look at... What's wrong with 1477? The whole car is 3000. My rears are a 9. I don't think I will gain anything from a 255 to a 265 on an R comp tire. Anyway the more important thing is everyone wants a 215 front R compound and here it is!! I can try these instead of the nitto maybe they won't be so bad and they won't rub.

Where have you been? Hapa88 (Adrian) and I have mentioned this tire for more than a year now. It's a cheap tire and great for HPDEs. If you're doing more serious stuff i'd spend the extra money on NT01s. They're not as consistent as NT-01s.

Believe it or not I don't see every post on prime although I try lol.

How do you know? I can't find any reviews except a few DE guys on the Evo forums. How come no one here has tried them? Especially hapa the king of cheap.

2 of my local friends use them. Hapa uses them on his Mazda Speed 3 and loves them. They grip well but appear to be more sensitive to temp changes and not as consistent as NT01 which is a great tire. They're so much cheaper though and I see a lot of guys run them on the track as well as the Hankook RS3s (but no sizes for the NSX).

I have a track day this wknd and depending on what my tire guy has in stock i'm going with the Federals or NT01s on 17/18.

They are less than 1/2 the price!!!

If i was tracking allot i'd try them...as it is my brain ignores anything after i see federal.

An awesome tire right smack on the middle of those two is the hankook RS3. im not lying when I say it feels like an NT01. It will heatup and start to go off but you get a consistant feel, I know a bunch of people that are in 2 tenths of the R compound time on a golden lap RS3. Im currently daily driving on a set. between my friends and I it seems about 6 months daily driving and 5 track days is about normal life not bad for around $600. the tread wear used to say 140utg but they changed the number to 200utg so they could run as a spec tire, nothing changed compound wise it was strictly a marketing move.

Be one with it................

Federal also now makes this and it's been getting some good amateur reviews. Like really good. A lot of track guys saying they are way superior to the rest of the R comps they've ran:

be cheap with it.........

Well here's my pricing on the Federals
Front 215s = $192 installed for the pair
Rears 255s = $264 installed for the pair

Damn.. that's cheap. The problem is... the fronts are backordered. Won't be ready for this wknd. Everyone i've called including discounttire.com has them about 3-4wks out.

Compared to my pricing for the Z2s installed.
Front 215s = $340 installed for the pair
Rears 255s = $542 installed for the pair

I wonder if the RSR really has a lot more grip than my AD08's. they are pretty thoroughly grooved. Now the FZ201 looks like glue.

you should be proud Dave that we listened to you,and haven't been constantly yelling that you are the most important factor in making the car faster

LOL... Yes I know.... It's amazing. Been a helpful thread. I will be at WGI three days next month so that should be good learning. You should come instruct for me Doc. Since I can't get billy you are my second choice. Like when you can't get a date with the hot girl so you go down your list. But #2 is still pretty good. Don't be mad. LOL
