okay, so i started my car.. fired up normally but started hearing this nasty rattle sound coming from the engine.. got out and looked around.. couldn't find anything till i got in the car and stuck it in gear.. it stopped. what can this be?

no it didn't.. stuck it in gear then drove away.. noise stopped... it was loud..annoying noise.. would it be something with the clutch or gears?
I know you thought it was coming from the back, but sounds travel in stange ways. ABS pump maybe? The other thing that comes to mind is the throw out bearing...usually that makes noise when the clutch pedal is in.

Does it stop when you press the clutch pedal in or when you engage a gear?
it only happened once.. never again. but that morning i stuck it in gear and took off and it stopped and never came back.
