vBulletin 4.x upgrade

I believe many of the changes in this upgrade to vB are performance and security related. Things that are important to the administrator of the site which the users won't ever see.

I certainly understand and appreciate the need for such changes (which generally should be transparent).
What I'm talking about are changes like the "activity stream" page that you now have to click through to get to the main forums page.

Will there be more themes/skins added to the site?
I only see default/nsxprime/ and mobile.

I prefer having a black background. :)

What is going on with search & advanced search? Sometimes I see the option of selecting specific forums to limit the search to, most of the time not. Being able to select type of content to search (currently 10 choices) isn't as helpful as specifying where to search. For example, if I am searching for "head" as in cylinder, I don't want 150 hits from electronics for "head unit". I am guessing I am doing something wrong, but no idea what that may be.

The "advanced search" has removed a capability which was previously available. You can no longer search for all posts containing "this text string" by username "John Doe". If you go into the advanced search function (by clicking on Advanced Search below the search box, which sends you to http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/search.php ) and you enter the text string and the username, it will ONLY give you search results in topics that John Doe created, and ignores any posts in topics created by others, even if John Doe posted a reply containing the text string.

If you have some vB4 themes you'd like to suggest I'll certainly consider adding them as options. Links to the theme package would be best.

I either don't understand what you guys are describing or the way I use it gives a different result. Try reading this thread about the vB4 advanced search page: http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php/168842-New-search-page and then if you still have problems please illustrate with a couple screenshots of how you are setting up the search page and then the results you get from the search.

Thanks, that helped. Apparently the answer to what I was trying to do is to make sure to click the tab that says "search single content type" on the advanced search screen. Looks like it defaults (at least the first time you go in there) to the tab that says "search multiple content types", which is limited in the way I described.

site has been up and down ...... anything going on?

Happy New Year!

Lud, Thanks for continued support of the helpful resource and glorious time-suck that is NSXPrime.

Noticed that the cover page of Prime got revamped somewhat like Apple iOS7 - Borderless boxes w/o any gradient and thin non-bold font that's harder to read than the bold font typically used throughout the site & message board....Just one man's request to please please please don't give into the thin font / overly-simplified graphics fad and please keep the fonts bold and more readable.

Thanks!

You guys should add alerts so posters can know when they've been quoted by other members. It would do wonders for the board (speaking from experience)

Tapatalk gives me alerts when I'm quoted. I figured that was a function available outside of tapatalk too. Definitely nice.

That does sound like a good feature. Since it sounds like you've seen it on other forums, is there a particular plug-in you can recommend to give us that functionality?

This is the link for the notifications http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/product/104-vbnotifications/

If you're going to add that you should add mentions too. So posters can @ one another and get notifications :
http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/product/20-advanced-user-tagging/

Also theres a venerability within tapatalk, i'll PM that too you.

Since Prime has been here for a long time & I'm assuming you're planning on having it around for years to come, I would STRONGLY suggest switching to the Xenforo's forum software. Vbulletin is a sinking ship, best to get off while you can. There's so many security problems w/ vbulletin & its old/outdated add ons its not even funny, a lot of the people who made vbull are over at Xenforo now, the support for it is WAY ahead of vbulletin at this point. Alot of big forums are switching over to it: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/the-big-forum-list.26352/
Another plus is that its extremely SEO friendly  I made the switch last year (20th biggest xenforo forum) & dodged a lot of bullets as a result. If you have any questions feel free to pm me. With the impending release of the new NSX, the time is now!

NSXPRIME I'd remove the User Tagging at the top of threads, it really won't be used. Or if you really wanna keep it, the bottom is a better place...
