Last night while gassing up, two guys were fascinated with the car. One of them even had a friend that bought a '97 with 20K miles for only $84,000! He said his buddy spent $2500 for each tire bringiing the cost of sneakers to $10K!

But the best was today when I passed two kids riding their bikes. One got the others' attention to see the car, and then as I drove by he barked at me!

Got a nice thumbs up from a man and his young son trailering a race car on NYST 87 south this past Sunday.
A couple of minutes later a C5 pulled along side with two young men inside and they were laughingand pointing at the car in a heckling manner. They then accelerated very quickly (I was crusing at 70mph), looking quite pleased with themselves.
So it goes...

One time, I was at a gas station in my minivan, and a guy pulled up in an '02 red/black NSX.

The guys behind started commenting on how ugly the car is, and was debating as to why a person would modify their NSX to look like that with fixed headlights, huge exhaust tips, body kit, and paint their brakes gold!

I walked over and told them its factory, and they were not amused at all.

Just as a counterpoint, I get totally the opposite reaction on the East Coast. I have gotten more comments than I can count along the lines of "is that the new one?" "oh man, it looks a lot better", "the old one was sweet, but it was looking old", etc. etc.

I actually havent heard a single negative comment about the facelift from the public at large.

To be fair, I got a good deal of compliments on the 98 as well, but I get more on the 03 (of course it is blue whereas my 98 was silver ;) )

At the Running of the Bulls I got a ton of compliments from the Ferrari and Lambo owners as well. They really seemed to like the facelift and were looking forward to the "NSX 2".

My sense on the facelift is that owners/big fans of the old design don't like it and non-NSX owners approve.

Strange Reactions

Here are my strangest 2 reactions to my 91.

I was at the beach (Florida) and a guy started taking his pants off and asked if he could well... have sex with my nsx. He was heading for the tail pipe murmuring something... as I drove off. He was drunk to say the least and spring break in fl is pretty wild.

When my brother and father were picking the car up and bringing it home from the previous owner... some girl kissed the drivers side window a few times for us and left makeup on it.

Other than that just the usualy "Holy Sh*t an nsx"

Besides the usual comment of "good looking, like a mini Corvette/ Ferrari" I had a very strange one...

This guy walked in to the store and goes, " Hey, Good Looking car, how much did you spend to make your Acura LOOK like that, very low and slick bro..." I puzzled, didn't know what is really he's trying to say, "I have seen kids wasting their money modifying their ride, but you did a good job!"

Apparently he thought it was one of those civic/integra and I made it to a coupe. I told him it's an NSX, and this car had been here for 12 years. He couldn't believe it.

Then there is always the morons in the pick-up trucks that go: "NSX sucks!" With that, I usually come back with: "I know, that is why you can't afford it, you uneducated punks." Got a lot more compliments though.

Driving through a parking lot, some guy wasn't paying attention while walking along the lane I was trying in vain to drive down. I've been there, though, so I gave him a moment to come to. Shortly, he heard the sound of tires rolling patiently behind him and hopped aside, saying:

"Oops, sorry!"

(pause)

"Nice car, though! :D "

When I still had the silver (July or August I think) I was at a work apero post-work with my GF and I started speaking with a guy from my company about cars. He asked me which car I had and I told him the NSX. "You know, the two seater Honda, kind of low, ... ".

"Yes-yes I know it..." he answered. And then: "You know... I am kind of a real car guy. I have a PORSCHE Boxster... ".

"S?" was my natural reaction.

"No the normal one..." he said.

Then, one hur later, when I was walking to the parking I met him again and he was opening the PORSCHE with the remote, the lights were blinking.

We were 5m from my car and he said pointing to my Silver WingWested NSX, "look there, nice Ferrari".

I made my car blink...

He probably confuses teh NSX and the CRX! :p

I applaud you. Well stated. :D
Liberal application of the "F"-word in that comeback would have also been suitable. :D

I really love hearing posts like these. I get alot of compliments (never heard a negative remark); though the compliments are not nearly as exagerated as some of yours.

I suppose its because here in Miami, exotics are a dime a dozen. I can pull up in a Blue Lambo and will turn a few heads, possibly get a comment or two, but doubtful would anyone make a scene over it. Most will probably think "I've seen that before".

However, and this is one of the reasons I don't care for this city, I can pull up in a Cadillac Escalade with 20+ chrome spinning rims, TVs everywhere, neons, etc., Jammin rap music, and likely I will get quite alot of head turning. Go figure.

The NSX does demand alot of respect though. The other NSX owners I have met in the Miami area are very modest and represent their cars well. It goes a long way to keeping the respect for the NSX strong.

When I bought the NSX in spring I was not sure what kind of attention it would garner as it was my first exotic. In the six months since purchasing the NSX I have had numerous compliments and lots of stares. I told my wife that I never knew I was so good looking.

I have also had several strange encounters also. One evening I was traveling down a fairly major thorough fair and 4 guys were hanging out of their car screaming NICE CAR! I guess they liked it.
;)

On another occasion I was driving back to the office with a co-worker who had never riden in my NSX prior, I had told him about all the stares I get but he never really thought much of it. While we were stopped at a set of lights a girl riding with a guy in the car beside us hung out her car window yelling "I love you car can I have a ride in it!?" My co-worker looked at me and started laughing and asked if this happened all time? I told him it never happened in my Accord only when I was driving the NSX.:D

ummmm, never get any attention from other girls while I'm driving, I guess,
1. I'm going too fast
2. I never drive with windows down, so they won't be able talk to me...

The best one I have had was a guy at a gas station asked how much it cost me to move the engine from the front of the car to the middle.;)

Here's one...

The smog tech pulled my NSX in and stopped with the front wheels on the rollers. I smiled and politely yelled, "It's rear-wheel-drive." He grinned with a slight embarrassment and pulled forward. When he got out, he looked over at the owner of the smog station, who pointed at the trunk and said, "It's in the rear on those."

I respectfully intervened.

Last time I had my car tested at our state's emissions inspection station, the guys working there were young car guys who knew all about the NSX.

When I bought the car in NC and drove it down to Miami.. I stopped in a Waffle House in Florence, SC to grab some lunch.. When I pulled up the entire place was staring at me.. I went in and the waitress asks me in southern tone " what kind of car is that.. Is that a Ferrari?" I told her and the rest of the restaurant what it was..

As I was leaving a man in a pick-up with no teeth ( not kidding) asked me what it was.. He had never heard of Acura before..

Even in Miami, I get stares and questions.. I agree with BladesNSX up above. exotics are everywhere here.. but that's cool.. at least we don't draw that much attention!!

I am cool with sharing with Ferraris and Lambos!
:)

I love reading these stories. The NSX surely spark these encounters and make our lives interesting.

Kinda like being seen out in public dating Angelina Jolie. :D
