My family (wife and daughter) and I will be traveling to Stuttgart, Germany around the late May time frame to visit family. I'd like to get some advice on places of interest to visit. So far we've got a few things on our list to do though none of them, except visiting the Nurburgring, is set in stone.

Porsche Museum
MB Museum
Eagle's Nest
Zoo
Nurburgring (have done some research on the 'Ring Taxi)
Prague - possibly spending a few days there
Ruf Factory - hmmm notice a theme?
Meet up with another NSX owner(s)?

That's it so far. Any suggestions or advice is very much welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks!

What are the wife and daughter going to do? That list would be the reason for my divorce. I wish my wife was as understanding.

On a more positive note I am jelous.

I am bringing the family to a small town near Heidelberg for what - coincidentally - overlaps when the German Grand Prix occurs!

What are the odds of that?

;)

Only bad part is even the cheaper seats are running well over $300 with the conversion. Over the last 4 months I have been going to:

Frankfurt (had to see the motor show)
Heidelberg
Treeburg / Black Forest
Speir
Trier / Landstuhl
Too many castle runs to remember
Too many schnitzels to remember

If anyone else is going to the Grand Prix - please let me know. Also I am interested in this thread for my own reasons with my family July visit.

2004 Formula One Race Schedule

July 25 German Grand Prix
Hockenheimring
Hockenheim: Germany

Just to let you know: I'm about 90 km from the Hockenheimring and about 110 km from Stuttgart in the black forest between Karlsruhe and Offenburg. You would not be the first U.S. NSXer to visit me here - I remember a couple from Phoenix/AZ that also made a stop here on their way to Hockenheim. Ask them about the home made black forest noodles (Spaetzle) they had in the romantic garden of my girlfriend's house...

Great! Visiting another NSX owner, especially in a foreign country would be great.

Do you have any suggestions or advice on places to go or things to do while we're in Germany?

While in Germany...

PonyBoy and Matteni,

Look me up when you're near. I live about 5 miles outside of Heidelberg and know the area. Sadly, I haven't done as much travelling as I could since I've been here so I don't have a lot of recommendations as far as places to go or see. If you like beer, there are a lot of places to visit! :D

By all means, both of you, look me up via email or phone when you get in country and maybe we could get together with NSX Racer for an evening or two between trips!

Great idea, Don! And for ponyboy I would highly recommend a sightseeing tour on the black forest high street (B 500, Schwarzwaldhochstrasse) and its wonderful little side roads - works best with NSX but is also fun in other cars.

You may also visit the big Sinsheim museum with everything you can imagine in cars, planes (real Concorde and its russian sister Tupolev plane), bikes etc.
More info here

Thanks! Both of you should be hearing from me in the near future.

Thanks again.

Let's definitely plan on getting together somewhere then, when you're "in town", then, Shawn. I've got room for you at my place if you want to have an overnight in the Heidelberg area. Nice little town and a beautiful castle. Wolfgang, I look forward to meeting you!

Just let me know!

Don

Thank you so much - looking forward to doing some sight seeing and meeting up with some NSXers.

I am staying with my family in Altenbach (near Schriesheim) and am looking forward to getting together with all of you.

The dates we will be there are 7/10 - 7/31 or should I say 10/7 through 31/7? :)

Take care - thanks again for the offer - if I am back sooner I will let you all know...

Hi

My summerplans include more and more.

First the drive from Narvik/Norway to watch Moto Gp at Assen.

Then drive from Assen to Remscheid to visit a friend.

Then from Remscheid to Sinsheim to look at the Concorde. The museum in Sinsheim looks very interesting. I always wanted to take a closer look at the Concorde. Tupolev too..great.

Plan to drive from Remscheid on monday 28.june. Maybe visit the Porsche museum in Stuttgart too.

Would be great to meet some NSX people while down there. Maybe some cruising in the Black Forest?

I have to go to Zurich too to meet Gheba_nsx. It is about 200km from Stuttgart to Zurich so it would be rude not to pop by :)

Gheba are you home about 30.june-01.july?

Then back to Nurburgring to watch 24 hour on the GP track on friday 02.july and take a few laps on the Ring.

Anybody going to watch the 24 hour on Nurburging GP track? Is it worth watching?

I go there mainly to take a few laps on the Ring and experince the parking lot with all the nice cars and also have a few beers with some guys that are at the Ring almost every weekend. The 24 hour is not the main thing. But will it be a lot of people there that weekend? Any NSX's driving the 24 hour?

Regards

Martin, see my post above in this thread, and give me a call if you're going to be in the Heidelberg area, I'm about 80km south of Frankfurt off of A5. Stop by if you can!

Hi

Okey thanks. I must have misunderstood. Some people on the "Ringers maillist" talk about "VLN" and I must have mixed what I read here and there. Maybe the VLN is the same event.

Anyway

Ah so there are NSX's in the event there. I must have a look at that.

You are probably the best to ask. Will this event be a huge event with thousands and thousands of spectators? Will there be a huge camp site down below the enterance to the GP circuit?

I will try to find somewhere to stay in Nurburg, or else I will have to put up a tent besides the NSX. I have also some other options.

I think this will be fun :)

Regards

Two times yes! There will be some tenthousands at the Ring. You may get in touch with Prime member Procar Specials. He will be there in the pits maybe he can get you in there too - who knows...

Hi martin,
sorry for my late answer, I found this only now! :)

I should be home but I still did not plan my sommer holidays... it would be nice to go for a drive with the Swiss NSXers!

Let me know when you are sure you will be here!

ciao

Hi

Gheba I will let you know.

Maybe I will hunt around Zurich for a Ayrton Senne Tag Heuer too :)

Regards

If time permits, I would take a tour thru german wine country called the Bergstrasse. The town of Auerbach, Bensheim, and Heppenheim are at the foothills of the Odenwald. Nice country roads into the forrest. This region is between Frankfurt and Heidelberg of Autobahn A5. Have fun, and Prost zum wohl.

Hi

Okey now I think I have it all figured out.

There is a 24 hour event that takes place on the Nurburgring Nordschleife where there will be some NSX running as ProCar told us about.

It is this event isn't it?

Then there is a 24 hour Le Mans Endurance series which is here This event is on the GP circuit.

I will be at the Ring when the 24 Le Mans Endurance series takes place. (Pretty sure I have this correct now and that there are no NSX's running in Le Mans event?)

Well I will try to get somewhere to stay in Nurburg that weekend and be at the Nordschleife all day long if somebody wants to say hi. I will take a few laps there, but probably hitch a ride with some other more experienced Ringers people.

The Le Mans Endurance does not sound too exciting to me if there are no NSX going.

Regards

Well, so far I have a tour of the Ruf factory set up...the Porsche factory...and the MB museum. :D

Anyone want to give a fellow NSXer a ride at the Nurburgring...please? Sabine is booked months upon months in advance. :( I'd be happy to pay for any expenses...

Hi Ponyboy

I will be in and around Nurburgring on 1.july->05.july. If you are there you are more then welcome to join me for a couple of laps or more on Nurburgring.

I will be joining a group called Ringers that are there as often as they can. It is usually not a problem to get laps with them. They are experienced Ringers and I am not. I would be glad to introduce you to them. I had a lap with one of them back in 2002 and it was a lot of fun.

I am pretty sure that riding with them will be a hell lot of more fun than riding with me. The Nurburgring is 22km long and I will be sure not to go off so I will take it pretty easy.

Then at night we could go to Sabine's and have a few beers. That is not as enjoyable as getting a lap around with her but still enjoyable :)

Regards

Thank you very much for the offer, martin, but I'll be leaving Germany on June 8th. Although I'd hate to go to the Nurburgring w/o planning for it, maybe I'll just go and see if I can hitch a ride with a 'Ring veteren. Maybe I can get one of the Ruf guys to take me around? Hmph...
