I tracked my car last night once again...runs weren't as impressive this time. (The point isn't track-related...promise!)

First time running with my new (wider) rims, but with Michellin Pilot Sports...here's how the night went:

First run:
14.772 @103.62 mph
2.732 60'

The reason for the 14.7: I spun...and spun....and spun...and spun some more!

I decided since i had 275's in the rear, i could rev to about 4,500k...big mistake! I spun off the line, backed off, feathered the gas, and as soon as i got on it again, i spun MORE! I was racing a Camaro SS on this run and I was reeling him no problem once i hooked!! My buddy was there watching and said my back end almost got sideways i spun so much!! Big mistake on my behalf.

Second run:
13.643@ 106.98mph
2.2 60'

This time I revved up to 3,000 and was trying this new technique using the e-brake...my R/T was 1.2  because i wasn't used to this technique. I did get better grip (dropped air pressure down to 28lbs instead of the 35psi that was in there before!!!)

Anyways: those runs were nothing impressive...i've run low 13's before on my stock rims with DRs...

The impressive thing that SHOCKED ME was the weigh station.

I weighed my car and it weighed in at 2725lbs!!!

I kept fidgeting with the scale, expecting it to be over 3000 and finally decided to try the big weight set to 2500 and the scale tipped, so i moved the 100's weight to 200 and the 10s to 25...

I was shocked!

I did take out my passenger seat, engine cover, flowmaster exhaust (saved about 10 lbs), spare, tool set, replaced springs with comptech and thats about it...

Does that sound right?? I checked and double checked hte weight and had an track-tech make sure it was correct, and he confirmed it!

How much fuel was in the tank? Isn't the factory weight (3153, or 3010) with a half tank of fuel?
The factory weight (3010 pounds for a stock '91 five-speed, 3153 for a stock '02-03 six-speed) is curb weight, which includes full fluids. Gasoline weighs approximately 6 pounds per gallon, so if an 18.6-gallon tank is 1/4 full, you would expect the empty car to weigh 83.7 pounds less than it would if the tank were full.

You can look up the weight savings for the other differences in the "Weight Reduction" section of the FAQ.

Just curious but why does an all aluminum car weigh so much??? My Civic weighed in at 2270lbs with almost a full tank, full interior (incl. spare, sub and amp) and stock motor. Any thoughts?

Part of it is that the engine is bigger.

Part of it, IMO, is that they made the NSX far stronger and more rigid than their other cars, and to do so there was a weight penalty (with the weight savings of aluminum offset by reinforcement and thicker parts in some areas).

If you would ever see a D16 out of the car sitting next to a 3.0 or 3.2 NSX motor you would start to understand!

man 2725lbs is awesome. I and my car need to start losing some weight.
Well, you can lose 83.7 pounds the same way Brian did - just drive your car until the gas tank is only 1/4 full... :D

That makes sense...never thought of that;)

Ya, i was shocked!! and it was so easy!! Taking the passenger seat out took all of 5 minutes!! Just unbolt the four bolts on the brackets, unhook the power seat unit, and unbolt the seatbelt and its out!! There goes 40lbs!

The car felt quite a bit perkier without the weight (spare, seat, floormats, tools, etc)

And seeing that supra weigh in at 3560 was like WOAH !!!!

Brian--are you going to have a chance to track the car again this season?

I had a 1/4 of a tank.

Is it ok to run 17psi in 275/35/18s???

I'm running 32psi right now on the street...is that ok? :)

there are some negative side effects on this but it'll sure will help your time gets lower.

just give it a try or two. then raise the pressure back up to normal.

ya i believe so...i think our track is open a little longer down here in south florida.

I'm hopefully going to AutoX it next weekend (the 27th) in Hollywood, Fla., but we'll see.

any reason for asking?

Just wanted to see if you would be posting more numbers anytime soon and to wish you good luck.
