Track tires on the street?

I have a drivers school event tomorrow at Road America which is about 60 miles from my house. Can I drive there with track tires, or am I better off changing the tires on and off when I get there? I'm afraid of damaging the interior by putting 3 tires in the car.

That all depends on what track tire you have. If they are Hoosiers, definately not.
Yoko's or similar, OK.

I would take the tires with you.

Double bag them in heavy plastic yard/leag bags and use some big towels as additional cushioning and you should be fine with them in the interior for the 60 mile ride.

PS: You'll have fun at RA!

Most "track tires" are actually street tires (DOT approved) with a softer rubber compound. The hoosier is made like a true track tire with very little tread, soft rubber, light weight and incredible grip (in the dry).

I should have added that the Hoosier is very easy to puncture on the street. Advise to even be carefull of the roads inside RA that lead you to the grid.

I often carry my track tires in my NSX. They are the stock '91-93 sizes.

I single bag them, no towels, and they don't damage anything.

However, if there were a track that were 60 miles away, I would consider driving there on the track tires (I don't use Hoosiers though).

I don't know much about the Ecsta V700 because this is a newly-introduced tire.

I just spent three days at RA over the weekend. There were five NSX's at the event (two instructors, two students, and a guest).

many of the track tires are oversized for the NSX, if anything larger than the 205/225 tires are used, they won't fit in the NSX. The V700s should be ok, but as Chuck says, they are softer, so be careful to stay away from construction zones, etc.
