My advice:

Don't allow the tubing to actually touch the lexan

If possible, consider filling the cage tube with some sort of foam. They sell the spray insulation here at Home Depot.

Use a few strips of dynamat around the tube then cover with padding or plastic or something so it won't be sticky. Stripe strategically placed will dampen the vibration and noise.

Besides the lexan, the tube itself will carry noise into the cabin. These suggestions will dampen the vibration and therefore noise.
 
That won't really dampen the metal from resonating.
 
Yes, the pipes will carry noise in, so if you fill them with insulation, and use something that damps vibration every so many feet, it will help a lot.

Great idea,
Fire resistant or retarding foam off course.

I'm pretty certain most foam that is used for home insulation is in fact fire proof stuff. At least in the U.S. I think filled with foam and covered with a 8-10cm strip of dampener every 20-30 decimeter will really dampen the tube.

My work is in sound so I will give some more advice, this is all based on my knowledge of acoustics. I have thought about this a lot because I plan to perhaps do this and I also street drive the car and am concerned with the increase in cabin noise. That hole around the bar in the lexan divider should be as tight as possible with as small a gap as possible. Also filled with foam of even that plastic material in the earlier thread. No air gaps. A boot of some sort that sits just off the lexan and allows a little room for more gasketing and deadening material on both sides will further tighten that entry point acoustically. If you take a tube and tap on it with a wrench, it will ring. If you fill it with dense foam and do the same, it should just be a "thud". It will change acoustically filled.

Another thought I had was to literally create a second panel to cover the entire divider glass that can just Velcro in and out of the car. Yes it will kill visibility but a rear view cam that weighs nothing on a monitor will give you more and more accurate vision than a rear view mirror sometimes. Monitor can be on the navpod. With a "soft" panel of the right material, it will absorb 80% of all in-cabin noise, because it is directly behind your ears. Sound will hit that partition and be absorbed rather than bounce off and hit the front glass and bounce back to the rear again. Even if it is not a "full" panel but one that has an opening for rear view, it's still going to do wonders.

That head protection on the seats will even help as it surrounds the ears with some absorbent material, but that will most likely not be on during street driving.

Yesterday we finished the heads. Now we are only waiting for the CT oil pump and we can finish the engine.

Are you also going to add any kind of gauge to monitor your AFR and/or other sensor data?
If there is anything I learned from Gerard, it is that you really should have something of that kind just to be able to monitor what's going on inside your engine. Especially if you are going to track your car like you are planning.
The NSX engine is just a little too expensive to take any risks and even more so if I see just how much work you have put into it by now.
 
Dimer a dense spray foam may work best. I just suggested a removable material but I'm afraid it won't dampen the thick tube enough so I edited my post. Use a strong dense spray foam. You can try a generic piece of pipe and see how it is. Fill it and tap it with a wrench. Then tap the empty one. You should hear a clear difference.

We have an AEM gauge, so we can monitor the AFR ;)

Yesterday we have installed the CT Engineering oil pump and cam gears, new water pump and kevlar distribution belt. We have set the cam gears to zero (OEM specs) and will adjust them on the dyno. I also installed the KW Clubsports and have begun installing Titanium Dave's non compliance parts.

I think from where you were to where you are going will be a noticeable improvement.
 
Last weekend the first Time Attack race of the season was held at TT Circuit Assen. Unfortunately we couldn't finish the race NSX, but I was lucky I could take my dad's NSX to the track. Since his car doesn't meet the regulations for my class, I had to compete in the semi-pro class.

When we drove to the track it was snowing and very cold. During the warm-up session I wanted to get used to the car and the track, but the track was so slippery I was only fighting to keep the car on the track. In the first lap I already found myself off track. Everywhere on the track cars spun off or worse. After two or three laps two cars collided and one of the cars left a trail of oil over the entire track, which caused even more accidents. I was a bit anxious about going back for the qualifying session, but we decided to give it a go and if the circumstances haven't changed I would come back and we would call it quits. Luckily the track was clean and dry and I found my confidence again. In the last lap of qualifying I decided to step on it a bit more and I qualified for the finals with the 10th best time. 10 out of 10 went for the finals ;).

I knew I could do a lot better and I knew where I could shave off the seconds I needed. Unfortunately my plan went out of the window when I braked to soon in the first corner and had a bit too much oversteer in the fourth corner. I finished with a time 2 seconds faster then my qualifying time, which was good for a 7th place out of 32.

Hi Dimer,

CONGRATS on your results: 7th out of 32 is not bad at all :smile: :smile: :smile:

Especially so if you consider that indeed the weather WAS cold and it was wet most of the day.

Also very nice of Gerard to let you drive the car, that is one very nice NSX so it would be a shame if anything happened to it.

How is the Race NSX doing?
 
Thanks :) On one hand I'm happy with the result, but I know I could have done better, since I made too many misstakes in the finals. But it was a great (but very cold) day nonetheless. We are still working hard on the race NSX. We will have it ready on the 1st of May.

this is my first post, and i just have to say, this gets better and better. Can't wait to see the final product.
 
Since my NSX isn't ready yet, I used my dad's NSX (Tein RA, GruppeM intake, DC Sports exhaust, OZ superleggera, R compound) in the second race of the Time Attack season. It was my birthday, the weather was great, the car felt good, so enough ingredients for a successful raceday ;).

I started the warm-up session slowly, but quickly found confidence in the car and began to overtake the cars in front of me. It was quite busy on the track and in lap 6 I finally had a full lap to myself. In lap 7 I spun, and for some (still unknown) reason the battery was dead and I couldn't get the car running again. I was towed to the pits and the warm-up session was over for me. I had set the 2nd fastest laptime in my class: 2:11.xx. Unfortunately this meant I was disqualified for the finals as the limit in my class is 2:12. Nonetheless I had a great time on the track!

Was this a race at Zandvoort or on Assen again??

Some thing I don't quite understand. You mention you qualified with a time of 2:11.xx where the limit for your class is 2:12 and that it was the 2nd fastest time.
Yet, you are disqualified. What exactly is the reason then. You were going TOO fast perhaps?? :)

Yes, I was disqualified because I was too fast. Normally you move up a class if you go too fast, but my dads' car doesn't meet the rules/regulations of the faster class. You then need a cage, engine cut off switch etc. So there was no class left where I could race in...

With my own car this problem is solved as we are building it to the highest regulation specs ;)

So, essentially, all the competitors are trying to get as close to 2:12 as possible without passing it. And if, by accident, you do, you are disqualified for going too fast... What kind of race is that?

If I understand you correctly, you and the guy with the fastest time were disqualified and the guy with 3rd time wins the Time Attack ????
