Ticket in AZ :(

While I was out in Phoenix last week, I received a speeding ticket. 66 in 45 on Cactus. I am a CA resident, does anyone know if that ticket will show up on my CA record?

Also, I've been told that it's a civil charge, so I can select to go to a defensive driving school to dismiss the ticket. I am just learning this is an actual defensive driving course, has to be 5+ hours in driving/classroom, not the regular traffic school that one attends in CA.

Any information or anyone that has gone through this will be greatly appreciated.

ps. also learned, the Scottsdale Municipal court does NOT accept online driving school completions.

Odd to hear Scottsdale will not accept an online school. I was tagged for 46 in a 30 retracing the route we took headed to the mountain top at NSXPO (long story...might be an article for NSX Driver).

Anyway, I took an online course from http://www.drivinguniversity.com/ that WAS accepted, although I had to take the AZ test as I am from Texas.

You might try calling (unless you already did) the number listed for the judge/court and verify your findings.

Not true, I have gotten one ticket in IA and one in MN within the last 4 years and neither appeared on my CA records.

Not true. The states need to have an information sharing agreement in order for citations in one state to show up in another. Most states (including AZ) have said agreement with CA.

Sam

got bounced around between the number listed on the brochure and the court. Scottsdale Municipal court specifically does NOT accept online school. But, neither the court, or the contracted driving school people can tell me which driving school I can take from out of state. I was told to sign up to any instructor led defensive driving school that is at least 5 1/2 hours long. But I am having trouble clarifying if this is a regular traffic school or an actual driving school....., it's getting frustrating.

I am willing to do the time and pay the fine... but no one has a clear answer on what I need to do!

Hate to sound like a fuddy duddy, but here goes - Dude - the first thing you need to do is SLOW DOWN . It's not that important to be anywhere and if it is leave earlier! Especially, if it means getting a ticket or getting into an accident.

Hopefully, you get this resolved without too much interstate hassles.

Were you guys using any radar detectors?!? :frown:

What method was used to 'clock' you, ie. pace, Ka, X, K, laser, etc...

Bests' of luck w/ the outcome.

I was told by the nice officer they used a method called Vascar, or something like that.
At one point, there exists a timing unit that reads when you go by. At the second point, it stops the clock and calculates the difference.
That difference is what was on my ticket. As the officer pointed out, it never read my true speed, just my average.
Therefore, this time, my radar detector had no chance of helping out.

time-trials...

That's a shocker to me!?! I didn't think they used vascar out west... when I lived in Penn, it was commonly used and sometimes easy to avoid: simply note the white lines on the roadway. However, as time went on, the police began using landmarks or unmarked objects for reference... so I heard! :frown:

Shouldn't show up on your CA record... my brother in law had a DUI and speeding ticket... CA not only didn't find out about the ticket, they never caught wind his license was suspended in AZ (CA license)

I was told by the contracted traffic school peopled that if i don't take care of the ticket, the information will be forwarded on to CA DMV from the AZ DMV.

just going by his case man... may be a scare tactic against you, may be for real... sorry you got a ticket... i'd keep trying the traffic school route, kinda like a get out of jail free card, one time use!

if you need an az lawyer, let me know (my wife not me:)

Here in NY we have reciprocity with another country but not between states. Taken right from the NYS DMV web site...

<<<Out-of-state traffic violations: Except for Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS driver record if you commit an out-of-state traffic violation. Points can appear on your NYS driver record if you commit a traffic violation in Ontario or Quebec.>>>>>>http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/license.htm#points

Try to do a traffic school in AZ. If you complete your school in CA it will be recorded in the county you attend the school and it may or may not show up on CA DMV. Heard this from the TS person, so it should be valid info.

Hmmm Dave...let me guess. You were chasing after Jason in his yellow M3 when you got pulled over. And the cop pulled you over because your Gruppe M was screaming at WOT!!! Ha ha. Sorry to hear about the ticket. Hopefully the traffic school thing will work out for you.

This thread does remind of one question...where is our DVD Neo was supposed to make of our tunnel runs???

I'm in LA until Saturday staying at the Park Hyatt in Century City! Hit up my cell if you want to meet up!

After 2 days of phone tags..., govt employees.. :(

AZ, they call it defensive driving school, which is equivalent of traffic school in CA.

So, anyone has any recommendations for traffic school in OC area? It doesn't have to be the court appointed ones since it will not be reported back to CA courts. I was thinking comedy traffic school..etc. I thought I heard some here have lifetime memberships? ;) I'd appreciate any information.

100's of choices... google for coupons also!

HAHA, not funny!?! <--->

http://www.asenseofhumordriving.com/

Among the many "live" & internet driver's safety courses I've taken, this one link'd above has been my favorite. If using different web-browsers, you can navigate the internet while you complete the manditory 6hrs w/o the timer stopping when you minimize the tutorial window.

Unfortunately, I just observed it's only useful for State of Texas...

Just google/froogle or Yahoo "shopping"... keywords: Arizona, driver's safety course, coupon, special. . .
