The sad season...

Of course some of us don't store our cars at all - that 'Primer from Sask. for instance drives all year 'round.
That would be me. Put the snow tires on again about 2 weeks ago. Good thing because I had to drive back from Wpg on Nov 8 in a snow storm. There were cars and semis in the ditch but my Michelins didn't let me down.

Unfortunately, the low oil pressure idiot light came on and started blinking so I had to have it trailered home the last 45 miles. When we went to put the winch on it, there was 2 inches of ice on the bra covering the tow hook cover. I wish I'd had my camera. Fortunately, it appears that the oil pressure switch just malfunctioned.

Had another 5 inches of wet stuff on Sun night which promptly packed down and froze into sheets of ice... typical early season storm.

I've noticed from the weather reports that Alberta and Sask are really taking a beating.

As for driving in the winter, I think a lot of people are too emotionally attached to their car to see it covered in snow/slush/ice. I'm one of these :-) But also, (and I think we talked about this in another thread) I have a 4x4 so I might as well just drive that and not risk the red car...

We had 20-30 cm of snow from Monday to Tuesday, 41cm of snow in Miami which is only a few miles away. It's all over but the crying.

My NSX season started at the end of July and lasted until Nov 13. I put on a whole 600km this year. :frown:

Are you angry with her?!?

Or your wife aked for it!
Heh. Must...get...3...car...garage...

You know, in some ways its just better not to walk past it every morning knowing I can't drive it! Now all I have to do it wait for April 1, and accumulate go-fast parts in the basement. ;)

I caught some wet flurries this evening driving home from work. Looks like it's going to be crappy for the next few days here in toronto so I'll probably pull out my winter beater until the weather clears up again. It's fun driving on the cold pavement though... chirped it in 2nd while mildly shifting.. yikes! ;)

600km??? How is that possible?? That is barely one tank of fuel.

All is still good in Toronto!
-4 this morning with a few flakes flying. Damn that cold weather makes some nice HP gains. Just takes so long to warm up that I'm half way to work before I can get onto it.
Still a few weeks left here

Yeah the cold weather has been INCREDIBLE for the HP gains! I decided not to heed my own advice and have been driving it every day, but now I'm sort of regretting it looking out the window and seeing all the snow sticking on the ground. Ooops (last time I trust CP24!). Might be a real fun drive going home tonight...

I feel like a criminal having defeated the snow and ice and gotten another drive in the NSX  Someone at work came to me and told me to look at my car about 2pm. Yep, totally covered in snow. I hung out till about 7pm and the drive home was fine as the roads were damp ( I now understand the difference between damp and wet) and partly dried closer to home. Washed it up on Saturday and took it out to work again, then again on Sunday. They must have salted late Fri night as I was looking at those little nuggets of destruction closely but no great concern as it was all dry. Brilliant drives except for that fat bastard Santa who slowed things down to a crawl on the way home on Sunday.
Humbug!

NSX = great winter car, its so low the snow is much easier to get at than on my Astrovan

Nice one coiler! I decided to leave my car at work and hitch a ride home with a friend. Good thing too, because even his car was having problems on his summer tires as there were a few places that were extremely icy with zero traction. Anyways, I had a fun time driving it back home Saturday in the nice weather.

Tomorrow appears to be the only day this week which we can pull the car out though -- rest of the week looks like flurries.

My secret is I travel near the lake in these marginal conditions. Its pretty much going to be the last place to freeze up and is good unless it is easterly wind. Then even though it may not freeze, it gets nasty snowfall.
Not looking good this week

I've discovered that I can't find 215 40 17 winter tires, so I'm stuck with going to 205s, which sucks!
In the meantime we repo'd a Jag X-Type that is my winter car until I figure out snows.

I drive with 205s on the front all the time Stu - even when mated with the 275s in the back it is not an issue. If you go with 205/255s, it will be even less noticable.

I wouldnt worry about it.

Last time I drove the car the temp was zero C and from a start turning left I lost control of the back end for a second. It's an automatic and I didn't even step that hard on the gas but I was in a hurry because traffic aggravated me.
I felt it go light and I lifted as I was doing all of about 10-20kph or however fast you can go turning left and going across three lanes. I think I did a mini tank slapper as the back end came back and went the other way.

My previous experience driving in cold dry conditions was much better. Tires are OEM.

Dave, Did you run 205's on your OEM rims? My concern is rim damage from not enough air/rubber to absorb the hits and holes.

Meanwhile if the weather looks snowy I have this beautiful Jag....until it goes in the Autotrader next week!
