The sad season...

Although fall is my favorite season, this is a sad moment when you store the NSX and close the pool.

Until last week I did enjoy both of them but every good things must end...

I know some courageous guys up here wait until late December. Some years ago, in late February or early March, I don't remember exactly, I saw a Red NSX ( white interior ) on the highway 10 halfway between Montréal and Sherbrooke cruising on a mild 5-7 degres sunny day. There was still snow but roads where dry.

This the kind of encounter you never forget.

Ive got mine out daily still. On R compound rubber too.

Just about killed myself 100 times in the pouring rain yesterday.

When its dry, its fine. Cold and wet is death in waiting.

Yeah I'm still using it daily as well. A few flurries are ok... when the snow starts sitting on the ground, or it gets into the wet snow/sleet/ice, then the car goes away. I'm hoping to get a few more weeks by putting my winter car back on full coverage and pulling that out on particularly bad days.

Both Daria and I had our NSXs on the track yesterday (in my case off the track a bit too!)

What a day!

The track went between wet and slippery and dry and fast twice - but any way you cut it tires were a bit cold.

The opportunity it provided to drive hard and let yourself f-up and then catch the car was invaluable. Although I spun several times the best part was the number of times I got the rear end around and brought it back! (The penalty for failure was sliding off into the wet grass - no biggie!)

My instructor tells me the experience you get from real life cannot be duplicated in the classroom - this is the season to do it, you don't even need a fraction of the speed to get the car to the limits, so your mistakes happen slower - easier to learn!

Get your car out on the track BEFORE you put it away (small track, lots of run-off). In my case, I'm going away this weekend, but next week I'm going to softer rubber and I'm going to keep going!

AWESOME!

That sounds like a riot. If you can push the car enough on that track, its probably a great track for getting schooled because the run offs are enormous and the speeds are not so much.

Ive departed that track numerous times, all in F2000 cars in the wet (which is REDICULUS). Departing rearward at 185 through the field with debris kicking up all around you and covering your helmet is an experience Id like to do again, and again and again..:D

How fast you get the NSX up to on that track Stu?

Thanks again for organizing the track day Stu. It beats going into work on a Thursday.

I managed to get my car up to 120 Km/h just before the chicane they added in the back straight.

Thanks Stu for organizing the event. Despite the miserable weather, it turned out to be a fun day. Like they say, a bad day at the track is still far better than a good day at work.

A special thanks to my bud Daria for the quick fix at the end of the day. I think I got your baby up to 200++ at the same spot. Glad to see the old fart hasn't lost his "stuff". And I'm real sorry for getting your brakes so hot! Next time you should think twice ( maybe 3x's ) who you ask to drive your car.

Jason (drives a white GT3) has a tentative lapping day scheduled for Mosport (big track) this Sunday. At this point, he doesn't know if its a go or not. Its currently looking like rain for Sunday so it may not happen. I should know later tonight. PM me if anyone is interested or what more info.

Let it go Rui. The season's over. How much snow do you need to see on the ground before you call it quits?

Vancouver and Victoria you can if you don't mind the rain.

Although I admit, it was hosing rain, and I wimped out and drove the RSX around today

Calgary's not bad. You can drive a nice car usually up until somewhere in December, avoiding the few short snowfalls that will get melted right away by the chinooks. But eventually in December you get a big load, and the gravel trucks get dispatched.....and that's pretty much it until late March or April.

I saw a couple Porsche 996s and Corvettes out and about this week. One fella at work brought his red SLK55 AMG a few days this week. Nice.

I store my car away from my house, so unfortunately it is hibernating now.

My pleasure!

I'm going to start planning our Spring Fling on the Big Track, in April/May.

I got up to 100 Mph in the back straight the time I went past the turn! (It was hard to see it coming until we switched to the taller Pylon)

What a blast! I'm glad I haven't lowered my car (yet)!

BTW - Tsvet and I were sittign inside smoking cigars when Daria's car goes blasting past - MUCH faster than before - I'm thinking to myself: "I hope he hasn't gone crazy and isn't pushing it too hard at the end of the day." Then I find out he did go crazy - he gave the car to Rui!!!!

All right - bring it on Stu - Im confirming today that I will attend your spring day.

Wish I could have gone.....

Excellent! I'm going to book the big track, date TBD, but i will do it with just enough cars to break even. What do you think of the plan?

two run groups in the morning (Beginner & Advanced)
join the groups in the afternoon
Beginners will get an instructor 1:1 ratio, Advanced, instructors optional

Cost = target $400 = around 20 cars for full track, lunch included - limit 10 beginners, 10 advanced

I'm getting set up to take VISA so when you say "yes" you buy your spot, no extra spots, no last minute joiners to raise the numbers - therefore no-shows only help the group by making it smaller!

First off - I dont think that you need to book 6 months in advance - maybe Im wrong.

Secondly, we need marshals and an ambulance also. Prob 4 marshals.

I am not sure where you are planning on getting your instructors, but there are people who will run the day for you. They will set up the instructors, marshals, and whatever else is needed. With 20-25 cars, and an efficiently run day, you will still have more opportunity for miles than you can take and the price would be down to about $400 all in. Ive been on well run days with 25ish cars on the track, and on days where there were only 8 but the day was not as efficient, and the absolute number of miles is not different. The only thing that changed, in my experience, was the traffic on the track. You'd have the entire track to yourself with only 8 cars, but youd pass or be passed at least once a session with the 25 car day. Not a big deal IMO if you can get the turnout.

Early in the season, with a day that promisses to be well run, youd get the turnout.

Ill get the info for you Stu on the organizers.

I've got an organizer already!

He's the guy who did the last one for me - He does all the SAAB Club Events. (I wouldn't even dream of doing it myself - I'm too new and stupid!)

I want to pre-book so its not the last minute scramble it was last time to get the last two people or finance it myself.

Our event was well run and the instructors are actually friends or friends of friends - Some of my new racing buddies include the Director of Motorsport for the BMW club and the Head Instructor for the Ferrari Club - so getting top guys is easy! And Rui will always come if he can bring an open wheeler!

Yeah, my target is about $400 per car, which shoudl be a fair price for a small, well organized day.

So who's still playing with their NSX?

When do you store it?

Mine went away Nov. 1 this year. About two weeks too early, considering it's snowing here now (Ottawa) for the first time. It probably won't stick around long though.

Of course some of us don't store our cars at all - that 'Primer from Sask. for instance drives all year 'round.
