The Official 2010 F1 Megathread

Re: Forget it..........deal might be doomed

Sure sure, Mikey has to get medical clearance, clean up/negotiate a few deals, prolly including his wife and James is still saying stuff like "his sources assure him the deal is done".

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/12/step-by-step-towards-a-schumacher-deal-with-mercedes/

But wait, if this idea about him driving a 07 Honda comes to pass; well forget it. That will be such an eye-opener for him. He who prolly won't fathom that anything that bad could have ever been on the F-1 grid. If I were in the deal, I'd suggest MS test the neck in a NASA centrifuge or maybe an old Rambler, cetainly not the 07 Honda.

Virgin F1 / Nick Wirth / March - Acura - etc.

Nick Wirth being team principal holds promise, quoting the Wiki link:

  • From 1996 until 1999 Wirth was Chief Designer and later a board member of the Benetton Formula One team.
  • In 1999 Wirth founded RoboScience, creators of the RS-01 RoboDog.
  • In 2006 Wirth began working for the FIA in the Casumaro windtunnel in Italy on the split rear wing design that the FIA proposed for the 2008 F1 season.
  • In 2007 he became involved with the Acura LMP programme in the American Le Mans Series and has since continued working especially with the design of the new LMP1 class car for 2009 season.
  • In 2010, Wirth will return to Formula One as technical director with the new Manor Grand Prix team, renamed Virgin Racing, which has formed a technical partnership with his company Wirth Research.
I hope US F1 has equally talented engineers leading their aero effort.

Today is the first flight test of the Boeing 787, the first all-composite commercial aircraft produced in the USA, about 5 years behind what Airbus has accomplished with their A380, and also smaller than that plane as well. Sigh ...

Re: Branson and Wirth; interesting

Nick Wirth being team principal holds promise
Yes, it would seem so as he likes to plow new ground just as much as owner Richard.

Designing a car without a windtunnel. http://www.f1technical.net/news/13894?sid=c1ba6719c61a2c043e4f28693605ae60

And Richard, not to be outdone expects to make money and wants poor kids and women in F-1.

Branson also made it clear that he is very keen to attract women drivers into the sport and said that the team would be launching an accessible young driver programme aimed at attracting children from families without significant resources. It all sounds quite idealistic, but Branson said he was in the business of making the impossible possible. He also believes that it will be possible to make money in the new era of F1, “rather than pour it away.”

More power to them.

Not only that. Virgin expects to make money because they won't put any money into the team at all:

Virgin has the naming rights to the team, so they will get the brand value and name recognition from the cars on the track, but they are not putting any money in. They are putting their brand in and the sponsors are partnering with them so they can access Virgin’s 100 million customers world wide and use the various Virgin channels to create brand awareness, or to make business to business sales.

Re: Schumi Deal's back on........

Schumi's gonna test a GP2 car; Whew; anything but an old Honda !!

And someone said his wife already left him, just as she promised she would a month ago if he went racing. So, that must be the smoking gun?

And of course it's old news now that the doctor said he was good to go.

2010's gonna top this year !!!

With Schumacher back in the sport competing against Alonso, Hamilton, Button its too bad Kimi won't be in there...

Such a shame.

I do feel that the 2010 season will be one amazing spectacle to watch!

Schumacher is back!!!! (With Ross and Mercedes).

I'm going to have to start watching F1 again.

I lost my UK ITV feed submitted by Darmeth via uTorrent since it was banned from mininova.org after the final race last year. Anyone know of alternatives? Even paid alternatives? Darmeth's h.264 stream was very good quality.

did this thread die??? weird... I always come here and HT to get the latest F1 news. So? Any news from other sources? I've already checked over at Honda-tech.

The big boss wants to have shortcuts for 2010. That would be funny...err...interesting..

He seriously needs to retire. He's done well for the sport, but shortcuts? Gold medals? Boring new tracks like Abu Dhabi? Asking for outrageous amounts of money and losing major venues like Indy or Canada for a year, not to mention nearly losing Silverstone?

The man has lost it.

Has the thread died? Nary a car has even been launched yet! Recent F1 news has been negligible at best.

Oh, Bernie wants shortcuts. Great idea, Mr. Ecclestone.

Re: Dead thread?

I wondered that myself ......for about 20 seconds. My wife aptly suggested that I had chased everyone off or put them to sleep. Not sure which.

Seriously, same thing happened on another forum (one not shy about shouting me down) so I just figured that everyone was too absorbed with Tiger and the Leno-Conan conundrum.

I mean, how interesting can it be when Hamo 7/2 is favored ahead of Shumi and Fred at 4/1 for WDC. Poor Seb at 13/2 (no respect ) is only a nose ahead of JB at 7/1. And poor Flippy at 9/1 and Nico at 13/1 barely get a mention. Means little, right? Because as we all know, it's the car. So no point in speculating aimlessly about who will win til spring testing reveals the engineers' brilliance (or lack of) in designing the cars.

Someone, start the countdown til the first race.

In my opinion, that will never happen and is a silly solution regardless. No offense intended.

Re: Science or sport?

Solution is this:

The engineers should have their own F1 series, driven via remote control by either a human or a computer, or both together.

The drivers can have a F1 spec car series, where it'll all depned on the driver, and not the car.
Have you sent an EM to Bernie? He'd love it.

He'd prolly combine that idea with his short-cut idea and say the driver has to have total control only when taking a short-cut.

does anybody else think the cars this year look so much better compared to previous years?

today was day1 of testing. probably nothing at all can be deduced from the lap times of the day, but it looks like some drivers and cars are in tip top shape, whereas others need some work still.

can't wait for the season to start!

+1 for better looking cars, seems that this year Ferrari will be more competitive.

is anyone else ABSOLUTELY SICK OF STUPID FORMULA ONE MANAGEMENT??? i mean first, they don't show any of the practice sessions on any tv stations, not even online. then they block all of the videos that pop up on youtube. the official practice and race showings are always at the worst hours ever during the wee hours of the morning. all i want to do is see some footage of the practice sessions and the races! is that too much to ask? guess i'll have to spend the extra little $$ and get a dvr.

it's too bad such an amazing technologically advanced racing series has turned into commercialized show off contest for billionaire playboys who never know when enough is enough.

in a way, i kind of wish the FOTA split last season with the FIA and made a real racing series where teams would actually not be afraid to try new innovations that are outside the envelope of 'normal'...

Re: Let's idly speculate on............

Ross and what he said about initial testing. Sure it's pre-season and none of this means anything, but it's interesting that Ross said something definitive at all.

http://www.crash.net/f1/news/156600/1/mercedes_we_are_a_little_bit_off_the_pace.html

So, is he 1) sandbagging or 2) putting lipstick on a pig? Or 3) neither, just having fun or 4) playing out a Bernie script by throwing out some BS fodder for the pundits?

You don't think they have a sense of humor do ya?
