The last lap of Mother Goose

Guus, my friend...

I remember on the way back from Magny Cours in April 2000 when we spoke about how we shared the same views about living life to the fullest and not waiting till tomorrow what you can do today...

I am sad that you have not been able to enjoy your passions for more years but on the other hand, since your time has come, I'm glad that you were able to have lived it the way you wanted to and lived your passion for Honda cars and the NSX.

I am very fortunate to have met you and spent some great times with you. Goodbye and live through the rest of us...

Francis

I'm in deep sorrow. I met him at my first track event in 1998 at Le Laquais and from then on he made me one of his track pupils. He was the one of the very few who drove my car with me as a passenger on the track to show me the right lines. Tomorrow our club will meet at the track of Anneau du Rhin in sorrow and in memory of Guus.

Keep him in mind as the kind of guy he always was: Helpful, gracious, friendly, with a lot of humour and a loud car (his car was rejected in Le Laquais back in '98 as too loud). Heaven won't reject him....

Very sad day... my deepest condolence to the family.

See you in another life Guus where I hope to actually meet you instead of only correspond with you via email ...and maybe have the possibility to drive on the same track!

I never met Guus, but I am deeply saddened by the loss to his family and friends. Guus made a difference in the world, and he will be missed.

What sad news. My sincerest sympathy to his family and his friends. Wish I had the honor of meeting him.

Looking forward to '03 ending.:(

Rest in peace, your suffering has ended.

Our last lap for Guus

Yesterday (nov, 1st) the NSX & Honda Sportcars Club Europe gathered at the track of Anneau du Rhin in France in memory of our beloved member Guus. At the end of the event all participants formed a long line to drive a slow last lap with black ribbons around the left mirror - an impressive picture that caused many of us getting tears in our eyes - especialy my girl friend who liked Guus very much.

As I heard Gerard will be at the funeral also as the club's representative to lay down some flowers - thank you, Gerard for your informations and contribution.

Edit: As you may have seen in Guus' profile he would have his 34. birthday november, 20th.

This is a total shock for me and a tragedy. I met Guus at NSXPO1999 and he was as described by all as a perfect gentleman. I sold him a copy of the HyperRev magazine and hang out with him in one of the days at NSXPO. I had no idea that he was ill until today. He will be greatly missed.
Sadly,
Steve

He will be sadly missed, hung out with him in Japan and Holland.
Totally shocked,

I met Guus years back, just after i bought my NSX.
Quiet funny, he recognized the NSX i bought, as the NSX he had lots of batlle's with on the track, and even lost the 1998 championship to. We always kept this as a sort of funny thing between us.

Since the first meet, Guus has become more then a NSX-buddy, more like a close friend.
Through Guus i met more fantastic people, with who we made a nice group of enthausiasts, all having pasion for the cars we love.
If you walk into his house, you wonder if you entered the official Honda NSX museum. All books, mentioning the word 'NSX', every magazine writing about the NSX since 1988, all video's from Europe, USA and Japan with NSX content in it sitting on his bookshelfs. Paintings of NSX's and picture's of NSX's on his wall, photo's on the cabinets, scale models everywhere.......
You wanna coffee? Only in a Acura or Honda cup........

Countless events we attended to, and thousands of kilometers driving fun we had in our NSX's, with the two of us , or with others like Gerard, Micha, Peter, Maarten and Alex, his brother.

Last year we went to the 2002 Magny-Cours Throphy, and though Guus was already ill, we had the best drive of our lives. We spend driving eachothers NSX's for hours, so he could watch his NSX on the road. A drive after a weekend i will never forget. Moments where people of the club shared there emotions with Guus, giving him strength for the time to come. Those moments where very important to him.

The recovery after his operation was so hopefull, nobody thought it would end so fast as it did. Only a few months back, he showed us proudly the pictures of a nearly disapeared tumor, which went from big to nothing during his treatment over the last year.

I wish his sister, mother, his brother alex and his best friend Micha a lot of strength the comming weeks and months.

I can not express how i feel.....

Here are some pictures......

Guus his last farewell

The funeral was an impressive one. A few hundred close friends and relatives were gathered to give Guus their respect.

The present Honda's (of all types) formed a lineup as a tribute to our friend.

I will enclose a few pictures of the funeral.

"Don't be surprised to say goodbye
To say goodbye is necessary to meet again
And to meet again, after moments or lifes, is a fact, for those who are friends."

Guus, I will see you again.

Gerard
