The (2nd) Official 2016 F1 thread

I quite enjoyed this one:

Hamilton: "I'm gonna try and change everything [on the steering wheel]."

Mercedes: "Err, we don't advise that Lewis."

Yes sad especially when you consider this:
One of the best drivers in the field; one of the three best chassis in F1 this year, a well disciplined and organized team for years and three years or more of powerplamt development and so little to show for. (Bouiller should also stop predicting success around the corner. It is getting really embarrassing).

The Honda development of the engine is extremely dissapointing to everyone not just Honda fans I think everyone wants another competitive package for the sport.
it's almost like they should just build whatever and screw the token system so they can get up to speed what will the FIA do about that ban them or start them from the back of the grid, I dont think they can do much without screwing the sport much more than it already is
I know thats a simplistic attitude to a complex problem but the sport is being damaged by the current system, before Baku everyone was saying how its getting better with everyone closing the gap but theyre not it's just the odd race so theres no excitement leading up to the next round as we already know the outcome /rant over

the irony is the other teams are progressing, maybe closing the gap to Mercedes, finally getting a bit of racing, just in time for all the rules to change for next season!!!

and was it me, or did Baku look like a slightly widened Formula E track??

also there are rumours for Baku to be a night race next time....

Pretty gutted Nico got away with such a minor punishment.
Why did they bring Hamilton in first for the second pit stop and not give him the chance to undercut Rosberg? Very strange, like they didn't want him to win.

the conspiracy theories certainly abound. German team, German driver, Austrian Exec Director, Austrian non-Exec Chairman, mind boggling strategy calls on a semi-consistent basis?

at least when they crash into each other it makes it fun for the rest of us!

Jenson's interview was both telling and entertaining...

I need to look some more but Rosberg did have the inside line and Hami did turn down onto him. Hamo's other choice was to go off track, but Rosberg was inside. Whether he could have made the corner with any speed is the question. Another d-bag move for Rosberg.

Rosberg did have the inside, but was nowhere near the inside line. he said he was having brake issues, but he wasn't even trying to turn in, even after he had the car more than slowed down enough. instead he seemed intent on pushing Hamilton off track. i gotta say that once again Rosberg pulled a dumb shit move, but this time he paid the price.

Hamilton left him the entire inside of the track (and was ahead), i have to side with Lewis.

this should be Rosberg's year, but it looks like he's undoing it all by himself...

Rosberg drives like a prick.

This pretty much sums it up.

From the video: Rosberg did a little fault in turn 1. That's the reason Hamilton catched up quickly and tried it in turn 2. Very strange move of Rosberg to choose such a wide line. Steering problem as well? :D He knew he did a fault in turn 1 and then he was risking both cars off. After the crash Rosberg drove completely on the left to avoid Hamilton driving on the track again. Not very wise too. This is the second time Rosberg did that this season. The last time he pushed the wrong button after the start and lost speed. Then he pushed Hamilton on the grass. Stinks a little bit of 'cheating Schumi'.

If I were Mercedes I'd exchange Rosberg for Wehrlein next year. Cheaper and more a 'teammate' for Hamilton. But as a spectator of the show I'd like to see 'blood'. :D I'm waiting for a scene like Nelson Piquet boxing Eliseo Salazar not the boring press conferences...THAT were times! :D

Hamilton is in disadvantage for the rest of the season due to the components already used.

Hasegawa, the Honda "genius" in charge of the F1 engine program has started talking about the benefits of joining FE instead because "it is more interesting". A new crack in MacHonda's armor?

As much as I believe Rosberg was at fault, I think Hamo helped it happen and was very lucky to escape. Perhaps more of a case where he couldn't see Rosberg and Hamo turned in assuming a capable, professional driver would have long since turned in. He was a half car length ahead so I doubt he could see Rosberg s car. But he escaped.

Talk about colouring your comprehension with prejudice!

From Autosport -

Honda's Formula 1 engine chief Yusuke Hasegawa has revealed there is a possibility the Japanese manufacturer could compete in Formula E in the future.

Speaking over the Austrian Grand Prix weekend at the Red Bull Ring, Hasegawa said Honda had undertaken "some consideration" over the electric single-seater championship.

But he stressed that "so far we have no plans to join FE" in the short-term.

"Of course there are some possibilities we will join FE," he said.

"In the company some of the members want to join FE as well.

"As a technical point of view it is interesting but from a racing point of view it is not attractive yet."

Asked if Honda could commit to programmes in F1 and FE at the same time, Hasegawa said it was an issue of staffing rather than finances.

"When we are researching the activity, from a budget point of view FE is much lower than Formula 1 so far," he said.

"So from a budget point of view it is possible. But it is more difficult to get engineers to do that."

I'll let others make up their own mind. :)

Not sure how you see that?

Rosberg compromised his run up that straight by clipping the Apex kerb of Turn 1. Hamilton managed to get marginally in front by the time they reached the turn in point for the next turn. Rosberg did what most of us would do in that situation, run your opponent wide to disrupt his exit speed, and maximise your chances of getting all the power down on exit. At that point the inside car still has the advantage, especially as he has the inside line for the next corner.

The only thing Rosberg did wrong was he left his turn in a fraction [and I do mean a fraction] too late to avoid hitting Hamilton. Racing incident nothing more.

nah, Rosberg is completely at fault. had he been concerned with racing and not (overly) blocking, he would have turned his car in at the apex and concentrated on getting the drive on to outsprint Hamilton to the next corner. instead he put all his effort into running him as wide as he could and off the track. Hamilton wasn't taking it, and it didn't work out well for Rosberg. second time he's tried that bullshit, second time it hasn't worked.

just drive your car mate, and stop being a dick. Rosberg is throwing away his own championship...
