Hey guys, Just lower my second NSX but it still took forever since it has been like 4 or 5 years since the the black NSX. Sadly I believe that I am in need of new CV shafts because on my test drive I instantly had knocking sounds whenever throttle is applied. Nothing at rolling without thottle. Any input?

I have ruled out the wheels because when I took them off for a second test drive I still had the knocking sound only now accompanied with a loud chassis draggind sound :) J/K

What type of knocking noise? Do you have a camber kit?

Car looks great lowered btw.

The NSX axle bearings can come loose and still install in the car... This coule have happened when you had the a-arms hanging in the air.

Remove the axle and boot on the tranny side... I bet you dont need new axles if you get this done sooon!!!!!!!

If you hear LOUD cluncking when you give the car gas... I'll bet this is what it is.

I hope this helps

Regards

Thanks, wheels on the way! The noise is correlated to acceleration. Sounded like passenger side. When I got under the car sure enough the passenger side trans end cv joint is loose. I will pull today and update. Oh, and I dont have the camber kit.

Here is a photo of the cv joint. Seems the bearing wore out the raceway in one spot in each channel

So looking at how this thing goes together I am puzzled on how the condition you explain can occur. Seems like this is either together or apart, and no possible opportunity for it to be "loose". Please explain...

he is showing a pic of the axle with the boot off.... so when the axle was installed... the bearings were not together inside the boot.

If you were hearing clunking... you could have worn thoose recently... the clunks were loud huh.....

Regards

oh, i get it!!! DUH. Yes, the cluncks were loud just as the car would accelerate but coasting there was nothing. I think you are right about the bearing falling off the spider.

Well, I repacked with grease and test drove and it seems that the driver side
is making noise. It is not nearly as loud. I will repack the driver side tomorrow and see if this relieves the noise. Seems like it is worth a shot considering replacement cost. My grease was like split pea soup and very little of it.

Your welcome...

Well.... your in Anaheim.. shipping from AZ isnt much... I have a used driverside here.. I can sell it to you much cheaper and I would actualy take the damaged axle in on trade... but see if it works first.

We use the NSX knuckle side for the K20NSX axle conversion....

It is also where we learned so much about the axle geometry... I'm glad I could help save you from major damage... which is where that was headed...

Good job just parking the car and not continuing to "figure it out"... you saved yourself a clutch and tranny...

Thanks for the offer, I repacked the driver side and that side had no wear like the passenger side. I think I was selectively hearing the driver side just hoping a repack would be the cure. Sounds like the passenger side only now, so think ill try replacing that inboard joint on the passenger side.

Same offer if you need the passenger side... and go job... you saved money.
