Targa Tasmania , Anyone ever contemplated?

Yes I just watched the Eric bana movie . Man that looks like fun , but very expensive . Firsts timers would be hard to get sponsership . I have so many questions , like do you need a full roll cage for Rookie modern class can I use a midget co-driver  etc . I don't even care about the competitive side of it , that kind of driving really gets me pumped , I think the NSX would be perfect providing proper setup .
What do you guys think ??

I know years ago, circa 1997 or 1998, one of the guys from the NSX Club of Japan brought his NSX over there to compete.

I think the Inaugural and 2nd event were both won by NSXs as well.

Thanks for that , I wish they would give more data . Jezz I don't what catagory a 91 NSX would be in , this years winner overall was a R35 I think.

The only thing I'm concerned about is wrecking my car , thats why I don't do track days . I wish I had the money to build a purpose built race NSX :frown:

from thread http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128077

I'm originally a Tasmanian. But have since moved to Queensland.

BTW A NSX won the First Targa Tasmania in 1992 & again in 1993 driven by Greg Crick.

I'm told there are 6 NSX's in Tasmania but I had only ever seen 1 It was light purple metalic (Auto) a rare colour!

Well there you go !! Wanna be a co driver Wayne , whats your weight?

Man you guys are good , How did you stumble across this thread . Email sent

I just spent all day on Youtube watching past events . The more I see it the more I'm convinced Tarmac rally is for me . I do this once a month , I get on Google Maps and find the twistiest deserted looking roads in my area , get in the car and go hard.

However my head is filled with ideas on the Mods needed for my car to be safe and at least competitive.

Roll cage
4 point harnesses
Brake upgrades
Carbon clutch
Tein coilovers
Weight reduction
Tyres
9PSI CTSC upgrade , injectors, fuel pump and AEM
Sexy Navigator
Quick realease steering wheel and hub
Seats
Fire extinguisher , First aid kit etc
Flame proof suits , helmets and comms , maybe Sat nav
:confused::confused::confused:
Theres no way I'd be able to get the $$ together for that in 6 months , Maybe have to wait till 2011 .

Interesting read this , I think its a good thing that Aero mods must be kept OEM in shape . A more level playing field .

WOW.... welcome to NSX Prime Helen... how did you find this thread!?!! That's awesome.

Sweetchuck: hehe.... of all those mods, you only need the sexy navigator. That way if you come last you still win. :) A roll-cage or carbon-clutch can't console you if you finish 2nd. :p

I've been a Navigator in Targa Tas already. & have been on Service Crews a couple on times with some GTR Skylines. I would rather be a driver next time.

It's extremely expensive not only to enter but all the extra costs involved to prepare the Car. Don't forget you'll need a couple of service Cars & Crew to lookafter you/refuel at various Stages.

BTW Track days are way safer than Tarmac Rallies. At least you have runoff at the Race track. there is no Runoff in Tarmac rallies. Mistakes usually mean expensive damage!

Well would you want to co-drive with me ?? I'm dead keen and looking for sponsors I can get service cars and willing bodies . I'm trying to get the TV network for whom I work to sponsor me a bit for the support cars fuel and in car TV gear , but they generally don't sponsor individuals. I would have to be a team of some sort  Closed course tracks really don't appeal to me for some reason. Money is a big problem , but can be overcome somehow . What worries me the most is wet driving in an NSX , so twitchy . I don't want to wreck my car , I love it to death , I think the trick would be to drive at 80% potential for both car and driver . All the accidents I see are from pushing the limit and not listening to the Navigator.

I do not want to rain on your parade, but you did see what happened to Eric Bana's car in "Love The Beast"??? How would you feel if that happened to your NSX?

i love it when people are passionate about pursuing a dream, but please do so while applying a little logic. You have to be willing to risk a serious accident if you're going to enter. :(

I'm not saying dont do it... if you do enter, NSX prime will be your biggest fan club! we will want to see photos! :D All the best.

Yeah 600HP and leaf springs. That car under steered so badly on that corner. Like anything , you just have to weigh up the risks. I'll only be in Rookie class anyway I think? so thats prologue and 2 days . I think you would be more likely to crash out in a car you couldn't give a shit about , thats my logic and I'm sticking too it . Before I even think of filling out the application I'm getting driver training at a track to test my limits , thats a pre-requisite anyway.

I know what you're saying , its not something to be taken lightly.

You know what what my wife said when I told her , "get life insurance" My Dad piped up and said F#ck the life insurance , What about the car!!!

Sounds Interesting. I guess I could help with some parts but I wouldn't have much Cash to put forward.
i would loan my Brembo brake setup for the event.
I don't think I'd want to share the driving though. As much as I'd like to, If I had an accident in your car I couldn't afford to fix it & would never forgive myself.

That's good. You've heard what i was trying to say -- you've thought this through. I'll shut up now and look forward to the photos and AWESOME STORIES!!! This is exciting -- someone on prime is seriously considering doing the targa in an NSX! Woohoo!!

oh, and tell your dad i laughed at his comment. :D

Loan your Brembos ? You just made my day  I went for a fast drive yesterday on that 16 km of spaghetti I showed you and the brakes SUCK!!! I did however drive every bit and quick as the guys in tassie do though. I'm not sure if I even would want to run 9PSI , 6 seemed just right for my amount of skill and car setup , that may change though with proper brakes and shocks. I would like for you to be involved as much as possible. You would be perfect for the event because you have been already and you know the NSX back to front. You won't need any money , I just need a co driver who knows what they are doing and help getting bits for the car setup. Don't worry if you did crash I wouldn't blame you , But I won't put you in that position because , I'd feel the same way if I pranged your car

Anyway I'll give you a bell later .

What do you mean put rest , was this car killed in the race? Where is it now ? I need a roll cage.

The car went back to Japan were it sat in a Yard for Years.Owner doesent want to sell.
As for roll cage, mate has I think its complete.I will find out and let you know.
