My low mileage garage queen shares a problem with many of your... Split seams on the sunvisors. Anyone ever looked into a source for repair?

I wouldn't. It's the kind of thing where a repaired visor would be more susceptible to splitting again. Just replace it. Part numbers for your '91 are 83280-SL0-A50ZB left, 83230-SL0-A04ZA right; these are the part numbers for BLACK interior. List price is around a hundred or so, less your club member discount from Eric Milam at Niello.

I was told that the sunvisors for the targa models can't be ordered separately. You have to order the entire top assembly. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Apparently not. If you look at the parts catalog for the windshield from the FAQ, it shows individual part numbers for the left visor and the right visor, with the removable top (NSX-T) as well as without the removable top (NSX coupe).

Don't forget to note that the parts numbers listed are for black interior; a different part number exists for the light colored interior.

i know this sounds cheap
but i used emlers glue and then painted the edge with vinyl paint and looks fine beats paying 2 bills
if it fails then buy them from the dealer

Resolution

I went ahead and bought new sunvisors. Not only were the visors slit, the mirror flap on the passenger side was a little torn from wife struggling to get it open over the years. I bought new ones at Niello Acura with the club discount, and there were really quite reasonable.

Do you remember what you paid?

What is the life expectancy of these?

Anyone had to replace 2x?

Hey, Smoore. Did yours look like the foam inside swelled and then split the vinyl? Thats what looks like happened to mine. Did you trim away the excess foam and then glue it back together? I inquired about this very subject not long ago. One guy spent the bucks on new ones only to have them split out again in ( I think he said) two years. Kind of pricey for that type of longevity. P.S.: nsxtasy thinks I'm cheap and should just bite the bullit with the new ones. Thrifty is NOT cheap! How do think I saved my pennies to buy my NSX in the first place? :D

First of all, as I recall, you're the one who admitted being cheap and referred to yourself using that term.

Second, I think there's a right way to do repairs, and a wrong way to do repairs. The right way is to do a repair so that the quality of the looks and functionality are as good as the original. The wrong way is to cut corners to save money, and to have something that looks like crap or works like crap. Sometimes there are ways to save money and still fix things the right way (such as installing $16 window fix-it thingies instead of a $350 regulator). But other times people think they're saving money and they're either doing it in a way that it will just fail again, or they deny to themselves that it looks like crap.

If gluing it works for you, fine.

Please don't be discouraged from sharing what you find and do post your "how to's" and pics of the repair for the rest of us that don't think the top of the visor being repaired detracts from the overall car.

BTW - who sees the top of a visor? I wouldn't classify this with cheap bondo on the body or spray painting a panel yourself?

If you repair a poorly made item (IMO) in an area that nobody sees to avoid replacement with an outrageously priced poorly made item that will fail again in a couple of years - please let us know how it works and post pics so we can all determine for ourselves if it is for us or not.

I am not insensitive to $200 + time (every couple of years) and would like to know more about these repairs.

PS: My visor is so hard and cracked it wont even go forward all the way so it is probably too late for me but others might benefit from this.

My wife tried to use this for the first time the other day and she couldn't believe that such an expensive car had such a cheap mirror; ridiculous flap; and no light. We've had basic $15K sedans that had better convenience mirrors!

When you think of the careful engineering that went into the rest of the car, this was obviously an oversight... which is odd when you consider that most NSX owners' passengers are likely going to be more upscale in their dress/appearance and are going to want to check it more often.

Tell me about it! The little tab that is attached to the mirror came off 4 years ago and my wife cracked a nail trying to get the mirror open! Talk about angry! Anyway - I just ripped the little mirror covers off on both sides (they tear off remarkably easily) so that the mirrors are right there when you open them.
