Street Racing

I have seen E55 AMGs w/ 500 hp supercharged V8 engine weighing about 4000 pounds (something in that league) "kill" 600 hp Supras :) Good luck

The owner of a AMG just needs to learn how to launch in a controlled manner, their engines are extreme tourqey. Rest of the straight line race: Just keep the pedal down.

The manual-box driver must know how to change gears and when to change gears on his car, and how to launch.

SL/S65 AMG's are pretty much monsters, with no expetions. Don't know about the SL600, but it can't be a slow car!!

Make sure the video you post has some quality picture

Beautiful Car Greg Z..
nice track video by they way.
I am new to this forum and to my surprise, didnt realize how many poeple was against posting racing videos. I dont mean to offend anyone, just trying to enjoy alittle life and be a kid again. If there are that many members that
don't like this type of press, please let me know. you dont have to
respond to this thread for your identity pupose, you can just email me or what not. Voice your opinion, I do not hold grudges. I will respect you guys more for you honesty. I dont want to do anything that this forum dont condone. If there are more oppsoing then pros, Then I will not post the video to this up comming event.
thanks again.

You're missing the point Silver.

Street Racing is a highly illegal activity that kills innocent people as they're taking their kids to school, coming home from the restaurant, crossing the street, or whatever, and it makes us all look bad; especially so when an NSX is involved.

We LOVE racing and everything about it, but street racing is NOT RACING.

VERY well said.

Bio, I agree with almost everything you say on this forum. I think your ride is baller. That being said. WHY DO YOU PEOPLE FEEL THE NEED TO SAY THIS CRAP? "Street Racing is a highly illegal activity". Really? Really? To the people that have to dive in and regurgitate the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over again every time you see "street racing" in a thread..... do you really think you are helping somebody have an epiphany? Do you think they're going to read your post and say..."wow, I had no idea, thank you Mr. So & So for clearing that up for me, I'll cease and assist all driving I do over the posted speed limit immediately". I mean really?
All it looks like are people that want to hear themselves talk (or see themselves type). And take "street racing" with a grain of salt. I don't know how many of you live in L.A. and have crazy stuff go down like the Fast & Furious movies, with guys driving down city streets, blocking off roads and carrying police scanners..... but realize that "street racing" to the 99.9% of the rest of us usually sounds something like this.

So I was driving home from work and a Z06 pulled up next to me. He looked at me, I looked at him... honked the horn 3 times and took off... on a straight piece of expressway with nobody in front of us. We took it up to XYZ speed and one of us let off. We both smiled, nodded and continued home. Why... it's almost something exactly like this

Notice now nice this thread just sits there, completly flame retardant. Why I guess that's because the word "race" was never used in it.

Everytime you hear something on the news that says "a woman was killed today after a nissan sentra and a honda prelude, driven by a pair of 17 year old boys jumped a sidewalk in front of a mall on main street, apparently STREET RACING was involved".... you can't lump that in with what the VAST majority of us are talking about here. It's just not the same thing.

This being said... I just don't understand why there has to be CONSTANT FLAMING on here. I don't smoke either... but are you guys those annoying a-holes that tell everyone that smokes at a party that they're going to die? Are you guys the "hey, each one of those are going to take 15 minutes off your life" guys? For goodness sakes. Give IT A REST ALREADY! You're not the police, and you're not the conscious of all that is good and right in the world. Get over yourselves.

Sorry about this blow up. I've only been on this site for 2 years, I don't have 10,000 posts, but if you guys are going to tell somebody to do a search every time somebody asks a question that's already been asked.... why don't you do a search yourself, on the stuff that pops up every time somebody mentions "racing", without being on a track, and then try not to repeat YOURSELVES over and over and over again.

And I can't wait to see the response to this. What is somebody going to tell me? It's dangerous and illegal to drive over the speed limit??? Again, do that search.

Bio... this has ZERO to do with you personally. Nothing at all. You just happened to be the last post I read after reading 500 others and I guess it was just the straw. Sorry bro.

Kyle I 100% agreed with what you said. I mean really guys what is the sense of bashing ever guy that even mentions the words "street racing". It's been going on for decades and is a HUGE part of our heritage as far as the American motorsports world goes.

YES street racing can kill someone but how many more people die everyday from, Drunk drivers, People falling asleep or people that wont get off there damn cell phone. Give it a rest. If you dont like the topic. Pick another thread to type your life away!

OH WOW, COULDN'T have said it better. Finally someone had the balls to say it.

Im not lecturing and I dont mean to point out the obvious, but when Silver says things like this:

I am new to this forum and to my surprise, didnt realize how many poeple was against posting racing videos. .

it leads me to believe that he is not understanding why people speak out against such things. It is a fact that it is dangerous to himself and to others, who BTW have no idea that they are adopting the risk they are when they turn down the wrong road.

I dont mean to offend anyone, just trying to enjoy alittle life and be a kid again.

I think that instead of Street Racing, which is something that "kids" do, Silver should pick another youthful activity that can provide a similar type of rush. I recommend cocaine and/or giant orgies. The kids these days have all the fun

I see your point of view on this. You have valid points.
IMO maybe if a newbie or someone who doesn't use the search function might think it is cool to come on here and try to impress everyone by saying that he just beat XXX car street racing. Then when he says the way the vast majority of the mature folks on here view that topic then either they will think twice about actually racing again or certainly about posting it on here looking for a pat on the back.
Do you see that point of view?

I think if people on here don't want to lecture and beat a horse that's been dead for years, and the majority of people on here are "mature folks" then maybe the most mature way you can respond is by not responding at all. If somebody posts a video or story and nobody responds to it, what do you think that says? Does that make sense?

Yes, it does.
I have to hold myself back at times from responding to threads due to my personal views on them.

I agree. Then the people that have no problems with the post can post and the thread will go along smoothly. And the ones who don't agree can go post on another thread that they do agree on! WIN WIN

Yup, if any of us do actually occasionally go for short spurts of this "illegal activities" we are either smart or coward enough to not post it up here =). The anti-street racing nazi's will get you lol.

Renntech SL600 is faster than a factory SL65. That car is VERY fast in a straight line. Low to mid 11's. You will have your hands full.

I heard that rentech is faster also.
I got my clutch and flywheel in wednesday unfortunately My mechanic was unable to install it. He tells me that he has been backed up and alittle too busy with paying customers. Though he assured me it will get done by saturday even if he has to come in on his day off. This project has lasted for almost 2 yrs. whats a couple more days.
The spec clutch looks really good. total weight with clutch and flywhell was 30lbs. Not too bad if I do say myself.

I'm getting ready to go 6-speed, flywheel and a new clutch while it's all out. What clutch/flywheel combo did you go with? And to any of you that have gone with the lighter flywheel, what do you think of it?

I actually respect every ones opinion right up to the point where your opinion excludes other people from having an opinion...

That said ...Ya know what, I have had a bad day and seeing this post makes my testicles tighten up...
I am older now and my days of racing high school friends in my pinto are well over, as a matter of fact I have not been over 105 miles hour in 13 years. However,
I street race all the time!!!
But now it’s the girlie type were I’m at a red light and I "pull" till I get to the speed limit and nod at the other driver...
If some one on here thinks I’m going to hit their child, I say be a better parent and keep them off highways.... One of these jerks is probably responding from their Freakin blackberry while driving as I write this. Everyone is so self-righteous now, it makes me sick. When I first started posting on here, I got flamed all the time for asking "newbie questions". As far as I am concerned, all flamers can have a salty tea bag. I refuse to flame others or refer to the "search button" in a condescending way. I disagree with a lot of what I see, but that does not mean LECTURE!!! I have enough money at this point in my life to rent a large parking lot if I really wanted to see if sports car x can beat nsx and incase you clowns missed it, he said that it was a "controlled environment". THAT DOES NOT MEAN STREET RACING IN YOUR CULDASACK CLOWN.

And let me also say this, I am being inflammatory on purpose calling people clowns and such.... I want you to be mad, I want you to be discussed at "what this forum has become" log off, beat your kids, slap your wife and run to your nearest synagogue mosque or church and pray for the bad man on prime who called you names.

So don’t bother:
Making comments about my spelling or grammar, I don’t care. (your mom spells well enough for the both of us)
Telling me the police will get me. (I have not had a ticket in years)
Giving me derogatory tittles (I wear them like badges of honor.)

If this guy does not post his race on here I will personally make it my business to (verbally) attack every derogatory poster on this forum.

Last, I will not post in this forum again because I don’t want to turn this thread into something that it was not meant to be, I will start a new thread.

Dude, please be safe, post your race and kick much ass!!!

Omg ……..I hear the computers being kicked out of the wall

It is not reasonable to believe that racing on a street, any public street any time of day, under what is perceived as a controlled environment, is a responsible thing to do.

Im all for driving fast. 100mph in a controlled fashion on a 65mph interstate is reasonable; done it lots and will do it again. My car hits redline every time Im in it. Im often pulling onto a highway at a much higher speed than the traffic is going.

But it is not reasonable to introduce competition into the mix. Racing in your Pintos to 80mph is different; we are talking about double those speeds, easily when a SC'd NSX races this other car. And no public environment is adequately controlled for this behaviour. Take it to the track where everyone who's on it knows the risk they're adopting.

And to those who keep telling people to stop beating a dead horse, perhaps it is you who should take a look at the behaviour that you are condoning. I bet the NRA forums have the same type of disputes over firing automatic weapons in public locations. Everyone's a perfect shot, right? It was a controlled environment, right? Have gun (fast car), will shoot (race), right?

Im all for slapping big honking turbos in cars to make them go way too fast BTW. Find the proper location to use them is all anyone is saying.

LOL. That's pretty damn funny.

I think the "machine guns in a public place" is a little over the top. But beyond that... nobody is condoning or encouraging anything. We're just sick of the flamers. That's it. There alot of people that drive their cars fast. Whether or not it's considered "street racing" is in the eye of the beholder. I know I've driven alot faster by myself than I ever have driving with another car beside me. I've had my car up to 155. That's the fastest I've had it. On a HUUUUGE straight on a 4 lane divided highway close to Bloomington, IN. No traffic, a dry, sunny sunday afternoon in September. It was fun as hell. I'll probably do it again sometime if the conditions are as perfect as that day was. If they aren't then I won't. The problem is when everyone has to "pile on" and act holier than thou and lecture fellow owners about what is right and what is wrong. Like I said in my previous post, I don't know what you consider "street racing", but pulling up next to a dude on the highway, getting on it when there is room to do so and letting off is just guys being guys. If somebody posts a video of them weaving in and out of traffic and acting like an ass, that's different. Just stop lumping everyone that drives over the speed limit into this rediculous category of "idiot street racer" that is hell bent on death and destruction. It's just over the top and silly.

Anyway, about that clutch and flywheel I'm about to do.... those of you that have made the lighter flywheel mod, what do you think of it?

You know even though you don't break the speed limit, around here they consider what you are describing is street racing or wreckless driving. Don't shoot me, just being a messenger.
As for the child/parent comment....well I'm not a parent so I can't say from experience but that is an interesting point of view you have....I'll leave it at that.
I would like to hear others on here that ARE parents point of view on your statement.

Just stop lumping everyone that drives over the speed limit into this rediculous category of "idiot street racer" that is hell bent on death and destruction. It's just over the top and silly.

I would suggest that the flames in this thread should have been expected simply because of the thread title. If it said something like "driving on the highway at 90mph" I doubt that anyone would have said boo (most people probably would not even have opened the thread to see what it was about).

The concept of "street racing" is frowned upon by the public and for good reason. That is why cars are now confiscated in parts of New York for doing just that. Yes, there is a difference between "speeding" and "street racing" and I think people will still continue to criticize the latter way more often than the former.

From the NY Times:

November 18, 2007
Slow Down? Never. Well, Maybe.
By PHILLIP LUTZ
WEST BABYLON, N.Y.

ON what figured to be one of the last mild Saturdays of the year, an ethnically diverse and eclectically clad mix of auto enthusiasts engaged in a burnout contest here in an industrial area on Bell Street. The contest is an enduring ritual in which competing cars’ rear ends are held aloft while their drivers spin the front wheels against the pavement to generate as much sound and smoke as possible before speeding off one at a time.

But just as the contest was shifting into high gear — fueled by free-flowing beer, burgers and a huge sound system that pumped rap music — four Suffolk County police cars arrived, alerted by a 911 call. “We want to nip it in the bud,” Officer Robert Cardona said. “We’re trying to make sure they don’t kill themselves or others.”

Nip it in the bud they did. Before the competition could escalate into actual drag racing, the police gave out tickets for nonmoving offenses like parking violations and warned the participants to clear the street and not race. The burnout contest resumed after the police left. But the atmosphere had cooled, and the crowd, which had come from as far away as Vermont and North Carolina, drifted away.

The urge to build and race powerful cars is a constant, said Robert Ponzo, the assistant chief of patrol in the Suffolk County Police Department. Even two off-duty Mount Vernon, N.Y., police officers were accused of drag racing in their town last year on North Macquesten Parkway; one officer lost control of his car, injuring his passenger.

The consequences can be even more dire. Two 19-year-olds and a 20-year-old were killed in an evening drag race along Route 33 in Neptune Township, N.J., in March. That same month, a Newark police sergeant involved in a crackdown on drag racing on Doremus Avenue, a frequent site of illegal late-night races, was killed when his squad car flipped while chasing a suspect. And on Long Island, four people died in 2005 because of drag racing, including a woman in Elmont whose car was hit by one that the police said was racing.

But drag racing persists on public roads — especially industrial areas, like the one in West Babylon and on Doremus Avenue in Newark — in both impromptu and organized competitions.

Aided by computers and cellphones (participants in the burnout contest were organizing up to the last minute on a live Internet feed), hot rodders regularly congregate across the New York metropolitan area.

But for many of them, the risks of illegal racing are beginning to outweigh the thrills as the police step up enforcement and racing etiquette breaks down.

David Moy is a case in point. Leaning against his shiny red Honda Civic at the competition here, Mr. Moy, 28, of Ridge, N.Y., said he had sworn off street racing because he feared the police would seize his car, a 1997 model on which he said he had spent $25,000 for improvements.

Reacting to the drag-racing deaths on Long Island in 2005, the Suffolk County Legislature approved a bill last year authorizing police to seize racers’ cars. Since then, more than 20 have been seized and nearly 30 arrests made, the police said.

“They’re cracking down so much,” Mr. Moy said, “it’s not even worth it.”

For Nissin Trujillo, of Ocean Township, N.J., the risks are more personal. Mr. Trujillo, who is in his 20s and works with engines for a living, said a friend of his died a few years ago in a race along Main Street in Asbury Park, N.J. He said the death prompted him to stop racing on the street, though street racers’ diminishing sense of how to behave had already led him in that direction.

“People don’t know how to act anymore,” he said.

CHRIS MILLER, 26, of North Babylon, N.Y., said the risks were a career issue for him. Driving a black 1995 Honda Civic, he races only at tracks, most recently last month at the National Hot Rod Association’s sport-compact fall nationals, at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. He said street racing could jeopardize thousands of dollars in prize money and corporate backing he is seeking.

Mr. Miller’s move up the ladder parallels a general upgrading in drag racing. The National Hot Rod Association has 80,000 members, 140 affiliated tracks, multimillion-dollar cable-TV deals and a raft of star drivers who, like the crowd at the burnout contest, are a diverse mix. All of which gives young drivers something to shoot for beyond the cheap thrills and small cash available racing on the street.

Not that cheap thrills don’t retain their allure. Efan Krcic, 21, who lives in Flushing, Queens, and works as a doorman in Manhattan, said he races his Lexus SE 300 on highways in the metropolitan area when he is “egged on.” Mr. Krcic, who was among those who showed up in West Babylon, said he enjoyed the “bragging rights” that come from minor victories.

A spontaneous race apparently led to the three deaths in Neptune Township, N.J., in March. Capt. Andrew Ludder of the Neptune police said the accident did not indicate a wider pattern of drag racing, but Adrian Villamil, 26, of Little Ferry, N.J., who works at Z10 Motorsports in Neptune, said that impulsive racing takes place on nearby Route 18 and Route 9, as well as on Route 33.

Still, he said, most drivers backed off when the police took aggressive action against speeders, which Captain Ludder stressed was department policy. His department also focuses on known racing hot spots.

Mr. Villamil said that he and other racers chose to test their cars at Raceway Park, not far from Route 18. Alex Knapp, the track’s co-owner, said drivers from all over the metropolitan area regularly take part in open-track nights on Wednesdays and Fridays. He said that more had come from Nassau and Suffolk Counties since Long Island Motorsports Park in Westhampton closed after half a century in 2004.

Plans for a new track in Yaphank, in Suffolk, have languished amid opposition from the community and environmentalists, as well as developers with other interests.

Hot rodders said they would use a new track.

“There wouldn’t be all that jumping lines, burnout burnout stuff,” said Lauren Morales, 24, of Richmond Hill, Queens, the girlfriend of Mr. Moy, the former street racer.

But Chief Ponzo was skeptical, saying that much street racing would continue.

HI guys.
wanted to see if anyone had a hands on experience against a M. SL65
The race is up comming this week. I will have video footage.
I dont know how much power I have, but, I know I am boosting 7lb.
It does feel alot faster than before.
Dont know if my car is the only one that does this, but, My boost guage reads almost about 2lbs more than the lab top, when hooked up to the aem reading off the map sensor. I just recently realized this past week.
Single Turbo, AEM, Headers, water to air intercooler,
alot of beer, sweat, and late nights

ya i think he will own you.

704 ftlbs of torque.

all though the car is heavy it gets up to speed quick.

i was in the market for one a while back and owner took me for a test drive....

i would have to say i was down right shocked at how fast fat mother like this car can get up to speed.
