HI guys.
wanted to see if anyone had a hands on experience against a M. SL65
The race is up comming this week. I will have video footage.
I dont know how much power I have, but, I know I am boosting 7lb.
It does feel alot faster than before.
Dont know if my car is the only one that does this, but, My boost guage reads almost about 2lbs more than the lab top, when hooked up to the aem reading off the map sensor. I just recently realized this past week.
Single Turbo, AEM, Headers, water to air intercooler,
alot of beer, sweat, and late nights

 I love that your actually doing serious stuff with your car and your racing a serious car. But man your just asking for a shit storm to come your way starting the topic with STREET RACINGS. Get your suit on.

Well.... hmm.... I can tell you that they do seem to cord those expensive Pilot Sport Cups pretty good.

HI guys.
The race is up comming this week.

+1 on the when/where. You should have posted on our NSX 'track forum'.

What's the course configuration for this race? Standing start? What's the driver profile for the competition? Any tight chicanes? Have you checked the weather for projected street asphalt conditions and ambient temperatures? Doesn't look like you've done any weight reduction or safety work there in those pictures. LOL.

Posting video evidence online. Sounds like good judgement call to me. What lowly civil servant peon could ever be savy enough to think to look on You Tube or MySpace.

Maybe now to the question we are all asking ourselves. Since you could afford a turbo and intercooler... maybe a helmet and a few bucks at the gate for a real drag strip with a real scoring system? That way if the other driver runs out of talent and kills himself, no worries. As otherwise, they probably won't have a very difficult time finding the other NSX owner.

I see. 7lbs... I suppose who needs a dyno chart when we have your butt dyno to tell us.

Single Turbo, AEM, Headers, water to air intercooler,

The MAP sensor stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure. The MAP sensor gives the absolute pressure uncorrected for current atmospheric pressure. Range of .5-2.75V on the NSX.

The boost gauge you have likely references current atmospheric pressure as zero. Thus the boost gauge and the MAP output will differ.

alot of beer, sweat, and late nights

Hopefully leaving the beer out on these qualifying/race nights.

This is what I hope. I hope that if somebody has knowledge of his question, that they post the answer and help the guy out. I hope self-rightous people don't come on and start spewing a crap about who should be doing what with their time and preaching what is right and wrong according to them. Yes, to put "Street Racing" as the title of this thread is dumb.... but we all know most people's opinions of it on this site. You can read the umpteen other threads flaming people if you don't. Let's just see if we can't refrain this time. Hold back people. Hold back. We know.

gotta love posts like these. BTW, PhiAlpha, I'm not self-rightous, I just think this post was remarkably stupid. If I was going to street race (and I'm not commenting one way or another whether I do or don't engage in such activities), I'd just post a very simple question: "Can a turbo-charged NSX with XXXX mods with XXX HP take a MB SL65 in a straight line race" and leave it at that....

To paraphrase the original post:

"Hi. I'm a dork. I drink while working on my car. I am going to engage in an illegal street race that I would like all of you to know about and I'm going to record it and post it up here so that everyone on the web knows that I: 1) am a dork; 2) want to get caught engaging in an illegal activity; and 3) got my @$$ handed to me by a car that is 4 - 5 times the cost of mine. Gee, do you think I'll win the race? Oh, I'm not going to tell you very much about my car. It's boosted though. I'm racing a car that has 604HP and 712 lb torque. Do you think I can take him? Oh, my lab top (what's a lab top?) doesn't work so good."

Ugh.

you guys are right.
I believe the words came out wrong.
we will be racing on a controlled environment like always.
Not proud to say, I have a driver. He is actually my Mechanic.
He is the guy that really did all the work. I just gave support.
I do not do any Illegal racing.
and no beers on race day.

Okay, now that we've gone past this, it's hard to imagine that there's any chance that any NSX other than a high boost car (like a FX500-750) could take a SL65. The SL can run an 11 sec. 1/4. Your guy is going to get spanked. Hope there's no $ on the line.

We, do not do any grudge racing.
just for pride. If we win, I will shake my tunners hand along with
the other racer. I do believe I have a good chance.
Who in their right mind likes to get their a** handed to them.
The gentleman in that owns the mercedes is a friend of mine.
I have owned a few high horse power vehicles. 680rwhp 300zxtt.
GXR-750, honda F-4
I got bored with my Z. noticed not too many people were boosting
the nsx thought I would start a new project.
Do not always believe what the specs says.

biggest problem, weight. power to weight ratio is one of the best tools when buying a car.

I dunno man, Craig's got that mean HP turbo in his car. 15psi +/- 1 psi putting down well over 600 rwhp. 10.38(?) in the quarter in the pizza cutter stocker rims. Not to mention, nearly completely stock car with the exception of the clutch, and there is NO weight reduction other than nature's calling.

Guy's car does F#ckin' wheelies!

Maybe you are looking at the wrong specs.

A little bench racing simply googlin' around for mnfg official curb weights, and real world dyno plots:

2006 SL65
4564 lbs wet curb
708 ft/lb
528 rwhp

8.64lbs/hp

2006 C6 Z06
3132 official wet curb
412.3 ft/lbs
441rwhp
7.10 lbs/hp

1992 Street Racer NSX
3066lbs official wet curb + JDM nav pod
7psi, no torque
not enough lbs/hp

Non-withstanding the tire, driver, and 60' time situational mitigations there. Feel free to let me know if I am off base here. :)

John - LOL.. the last line was funny. I was expecting a numerical comparison.. only to get this punch line.

SilverNSX - did you state how much RWHp you are putting out? Any weight reduction? The Turbo automatically, I assume, will add 30 -50+ lbs... equivalent to about 3-5 hp.. but weight nonetheless.

Also - I rana a cfacks on your car.. and it came up as a 97 with 5 owners at about 11K miles in 2005; I thought you said it was a 92  ..

wow. car fax.
I am flatterd.
My vin number is.. JH4NA1153NT000288 can you send me a copy?
you actually made me take look at my title. It says it's a 1992 on my side.
though a 95 would better.
I weighed my car about 2 years ago with the orignal kit on it when I first purchased the car from Tony Priestly out of Tennessee.
the car weight was 2910 at Roebling road. The twin turbo kit weight to me, is atleast 50 to 60lb heaveir than what I have now. I have less piping throughout. My driver is about 190lb give or take a few. I have put her on a diet manage to get about 85lbs off. this includes putting my stock wheels back on. my aftermarket wheels were IForge 18" front 19" Rear

The reason we are waiting for this event, is due to my clutch. My 2nd gear is slipping. don't know how, I always thought higher gears would start slipping first. I didnt want to mention it and sound like a poor sport. I ordered the spec stage 3+ and am waiting.. Its seems to be doing good on Craig Cathy car, so why not try it. when we boosted her up to 7lbs, instantly we noticed 2nd gear started to go. The other gentlyman is like I said, a friend of mine so he understands. This is not a grudge match this is just a coupdle of friends littery hanging out. To my knowlege He just purchased the SL this past summer so I believe it is 2007.

If I would guest my power, I would have to say atleast 350rwhp moderate 385 at the Fly
hince the word (Guess - assume.)
Power to weight SL 4400 / 615 = 7.15
power to weight AC 2900 / 385 = 7.53
he does have alot more tourge, better power to weight, his is an automatic mine is a 5 speed, and I am willing to bet I am more arrowdynamic.
constest consist of. 1/4 mile run, 20 roll, 40 roll, and 60 roll

Kyle I 100% agree that Racing is racing. On the street or not. Is it safe not usually but Its still a part of racing history thats been around for decades. I do my fair share I just know better than to post about it here on prime with the cavemen:biggrin:

FWIW...i have raced a couple sl65 in out little "club"....not a drag race...freeway type of stuff and up to 130-140 i have no problems with them......i let off after that so who knows when they would catch me.

Punishment for posting in this thread will be......having to watch the movie Redline 10 time in a row!!!!!  :frown:

10 times! Ahh come on. I do confess!

I wish i could offer a posative word of encouragement but it looks like your out gunned. Thats not to say you dont have a chance but since your racing an auto there isnt exactly allot of room for driver error on his part which makes your chances that much slimmer imo. Perhaps on a more challenging venue you could better demonstrate the capabilities of your car but in a straight line race .... i'd expect the worste (a spanking) and hope for the best (a close finish).

Okay.
I made a mistake about it being the AMG version of the sl.
It is The SL600 but, with a Rentech Package.
I Heard the Rentech package has a little more horsepower
than the SL65 Factory factory. I am not really a Mercedes enthusiast so,
I got the car models mixed up. I am now100% sure its a 2007 mercedes SL600with the Rentech package.
Installing My clutch tommorow morning. Spec III +
Got my aem boost controller to peggy back with the aem.
We are uping the boost to 1st gear 7lbs 2nd 8lbs 3rd 10lbs and 4th 11lbs
I orignally had the car startup calibration tunned at GSC up to 3lb.
Due to Difficulty's.
My tunner picked up the slack from there on.
This is his first time tunning with an AEM stand alone and UEGO.
I was skeptical about boosting her up higher due to some tunning issues
we had in the past. But, heck. you only live once. if she goes she goes.
Hope all goes well.

You must watch redline 20 times for the double post!!

First off, good luck with the race. My other DD is a Black 95 SL so I am a Mercedes enthusiast, but right of the top of my head I don't know the hp of a Renntech SL600, but it will be stout, you can believe that.
Second, I race my NSX quite often and have video's. Sad part is I post them on the other Forums I'm on just to keep the old farts on here from flaming!!! Even tho here is the people I would like to share my experiences with the most. O'well.
Hell, I almost didn't post my video of my car running at the track a couple of weeks ago, but I finally did.
Good luck with the race, can't wait for the video.
