Hi, I was going to work on my brake this weekend, and have a question. Initially I was intending to remove my splash guard, but I was reading May Issue of HyperRev Vtec mag and it said that removing the splash guard may damage the bushes near the brakes due to the heat. They also went on to mention that TypeR and 95+ models had a splash guard with holes in them. Do 95+ american version have these holes on the splash guard also?? Also, does it really hurt the bushes that much...? Thanks much in advance.

ak,

I have had my splash guards off for three years, in the front. I did add the Dali "air deflectors" to help keep the brakes cool. I did this when planning to track the car. For the street, I am not sure you should even bother.

The issue with removing the splash guards is the possibility of getting too much heat on the "Ball Joint Boots", and melting them. They are close to the brake shield (splash guard), which will actually shield the heat from the ball joints. This typically happens to the rears, and why most folks do not remove the rear splash shields.

Now depending on how hard you are on your brakes, mainly at the track, I suspect you could melt the front ball joint boots as well. When you get to the point you are actually driving that fast(at the track), there will be MANY more things the change!!!!!!!!!!!!!
