This is awesome! We can have a Prime mini time attack battle!!!! How many of you guys are timing? We should have start laying down the smack! :)

I'll start with my excuses early...

I actually had planned to install a new clutch since my current one is totally dead. Car needs serious tune-up, I'm scheduled to take the car to Dons for some serious work... but I figured I should destroy the clutch before the Exedy and the 4.55 goes in. I haven't been to the track in over 8 months and I havn't been at Buttonwillow for over 1.5 years. I use OE 94 brakes still and they are toast, I should have barely enough pad left for the event and my ABS is currently broken. :)

Evenso, I'll be showing up with my Hotlap timer in hand. I know Ken will be timing, but am I totally expecting him to have surpassed me since I haven't been to the track in a long time. I have an extra hotlap receiver, so let me know if you want to time.

Kenji,

Speedtrial will do a tech inspection of the cars at the track, as such you probably want to get the brake pad issues sorted out. It would be a shame if you end up driving all the way down to BW just to find out that you don't have any brakes left and can't pass the tech inspection.

Let me dig through my old set of Carbotechs and see if I can find a set of pads with reasonable amount of pad material left. I'm not sure if I even have a set that might be track worthy, the wear on my rear pads has always been 2x the wear of the fronts, so I actually used many sets of rear pads..

Just to be sure check with Igor (Lyke007) he had a set of brand new Cobalt Friction pads for sale really cheap in the classifieds.

I also need to check my extra Hot Lap Timer receiver, I have not tested it out since I got it back from Long Acre, if it works I'll also bring it along.

I would seriously not recommend anyone with few events to even try timing, since that would detract from the learning experience, which is exactly what the beginners should be focusing on at the event. They can worry about their laptimes later on, once they have become proficient at driving consistently at the track. So I won't be lending my timer to the newbies, please don't take it personally.

BTW: Now you just need to convince George to show up, then you guys can really start talking smack, hehe... ;)

Ken

P.S. That wing on the rear of your car should buy you quite a bit of speed through the fast sweepers at the track so no excuses :D

Ken, I didn't realize that many of the listed are going to be in the beginner group. I guess we shouldn't harass them this time, but I'm gonna be checking out your laptimes. ;)

I think George is in school in San Diego, but it would be cool to have him come and join us if possible. I'll give him a ring.

Hehe, I'll be checking out your laptimes and Jimmy's laptimes as well :D.

We can always play cat and mouse and see how much we can pull each other at the track, sometimes that's more fun, hehe.

BTW: Is the cafeteria at BW going to be open both days? I did not see any food related information in the SpeedTrial website. Since this is my first time with SpeedTrial I just wanted to know.

Hi ken,
sorry for the late response. I'm still on my vacation in over sea.
There will be a cafeteria at the track for both days. ;)
Just want to let everyone know, if you don't feel comfortable with the run group, i can move you to a different run group, if any open space are availble.

Hey Jimmy,

I guess it is better late than never. I'm ready to sign up for the Sunday event. I went on the web site and didn't see a way to sign up online. So tomorrow, I'm going to full out the form and fax it in.

Who is heading up from OC beside silverone and I? It is around 170 miles from Irvine to MW. I guess if we take off at 5, we'll be there for a cup of jo at around 7:30. Are there any food place around the track?

I'm not Jimmy but I have been down to BW many times.

If you are heading up from OC, then your best bet is to stop off at the Buttonwillow exit off 5 Tracy Ave and drop by Starbucks, or get some breakfast at McDonalds, Carl's Jr, etc.

From past experience food is not available until around 11:30AM at the track. There is a convenience store/gas station about 5 miles east of BW Raceway on Laredo Hwy (Laredo Hwy is about 15 to 20 minutes north of the rest area off Buttonwillow), but I don't think that the coffee is that great there (don't drink coffee, but I am venturing a guess.)

I hope that this helps.

Ken

BTW: I'm not affiliated with SpeedTrial, but the following is the URL for the registration page..

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the info on food and drinks! Now I know what to expect.

More importantly, what I'd really like to get (read need) from you is some pointers on how to drive the proper lines at BW. Can I be one of the luck ones to catch a ride from you or Kenji in the morning?

I'm still licking my wounds from the last Streets of Willow event.

I'm hoping that Jimmy will be able to work things out with the Speed Trial folks so that some of us will be allowed to drive in the Intermediate Sessions to give orientation laps to the folks who are new to BW.

I could do it in my Advanced Session but that might be frustrating to the other drivers running in the session since I would have to slow down the pace so that I can point out the specifics while driving.

If I don't hear from Jimmy, I'll try to talk to the organizers on Saturday so that we can have all of this sorted out by Sunday morning.

Either way I am more than happy to give rides in my first 2 sessions of the day. More than likely I might be able to have at most 2 to 3 people per session given that the runs are only 20 minutes each and that reasonable laptimes at BW are in the 2:1X.XX range.

So far I have Silver-One, NSX-ster and CDub interested in getting rides to learn the line.

Just getting a headcount for people heading up on Sunday morning. If you like to caravan, post here or contact me.

I'll take the 105 West to 405 North. Catch you by the airport.

I'm going up Sat. night. Got a room at the Super8 for $37 incl. tax. Worth it for the extra sleep.

I was thinking of doing that, but concerned about parking the car outside, in an unfamiliar place.

any concerns?

I plugged in the addresses and it turned out that it is around 180 miles from Irvine to BW. That means it is going to take a good 2.5 hours to get there. I'm thinking of getting on the fwy at 5:00. Silverone, what do you think?

At this point, looks like it'll be just the 3 of us (Taj, Silverone and I) heading up in the morning. There are some names on the list that I'm not familiar with. But the Irvine Caravan will be taking 5 to 22 to 405 to 5 if you are interested to join us.

Taj, what time do you plan on rolling through 105/405? May be we can time it so that we can caravan up together.

We'll bring our club radios.

Not really, there are several guys staying there, so I hope we can all look out for one another's car. Plus I may get that NEO NSX 60mm fwd. canon mount! I am also worried about falling asleep if I drove up early Sunday am.

I've been to the Super 8 Motel in Buttonwillow many times over the past 2 years and have never had any problems there. However I recall hearing about a race car being stolen down in Buttonwillow a couple of years back, so nothing is guaranteed.

If you get a room, make sure the room faces away from I-5. It's a lot quieter that way.

I'll be staying at the Super 8 on Friday when I drive down from Laguna Seca for the weekend, but will be moving to the Four Points in Bakersfield for Saturday evening.

I just got off the phone with Carbotech sales rep. Any of you guys interested in a Carbotech Panther Plus group buy? He said he can give us a discount if we buy 5 sets or so. I should have messaged you guys about htis earlier so I could have ordered them and bring them to you for this event.

CDub and Silverone,

Plan A) Book a room for the night. We can have an early dinner and caravan up on early Saturday night.

Plan B) Caravan up in the morning. I'll meet you guys by LAX at 6:00 am.

I'm going to call Super8 today and check how many room they have available.
