Just got back from vegas.
My brother's still stuck in Vegas. He tried to drive home last night, but said route 58(?) was closed for evacuations so he had to turn back to Vegas..

Equal parts of hot dry winds, no rain forever and idiots that set fires and you have a disaster like this.

Kelvin,

I left at 9pm. and by 9:45 I was told that I-15 was reopened.

People on highway 18 had 25 miles of backup and Highway 58 had close to 10 miles of backup.

My friend and I were very fortunate. the big guy on top was watching out for me.

Re: Re: Re: fire!

Thanks for the info, Kenny. I will pass it along to my brother. I hope for all sake that these fires are put out soon...

Now it's really starting to hit close to home. I just rushed home from work and we have packed.

Evacuations have taken place in parts of Rancho San Diego. We are probably next.

This is nuts. :(

Conrad, Where do you live? I live near Avocado and Fury Lane, a couple of miles from where they were evacuating in RSD.

Bruce

Hi Bruce. I live near Avocado and del Rio.

I'm still here... but I'm packed and ready to go in case it gets bad.

My lungs are giving me a hard time... and the light headaches don't help either.... but after a short nap, I feel much better.

Mike! That's crazy... small world eh? What school did you attend? I attended Avocado Elementary School, Emerald Jr. High and Monte Vista High School. Sad to see your car go... stick around!!!

OK, time for Monday Night Football!

Everyone take care!

Glad to hear that things are calming down around your area Conrad. Got in touch with my family and apparently our place in San Carlos has been cleared for them to go back as well. Thankfully no one I know personally has been devastated by this incident, although I feel awful for the many that have.

The winds in the canyons in OC have nearly stopped. Temp is predicted in the 70's by Friday. Hope the fire fighters can limit the further loss. :(

Also pray for rain: maybe get someone to do a rain dance.
Try washing your car, it never fails to rain after I wash my car. :D

(Sorry, just trying to interject some humor under these dreadful circumstances. :()

Wow Conrad, you live about 1 mile from me. I am just on the other side of the freeway. I started to put everything back in its place again. I am extremely happy that we did not have to evacuate.

See you soon,
Bruce

Cuyamaca wiped out

The fires in San Diego are absolutely relentless. This is just absolutely terrible. :(

"Cuyamaca destroyed
4:35 p.m.
South of Julian, the community of Cuyamaca was "totally destroyed" by fire by mid-afternoon, California Department of Forestry Division Chief Bill Clayton told reporters.
There had been 100 to 150 homes in the tiny community nestled along State Route 79 at the Cuyamaca Reservoir, Clayton said.

Firefighters will now focus on trying to protect the community of Julian to the north. "

Here's a more detailed map of the fires as of 9:00PM Monday.

(For those of you outside of San Diego that are aware of the size of the metropolitan S.D. area, looking at the map you might get a sense of how big this thing has really grown. The main body, the Cedar Fire, is still 0% contained and is not expected to be contained until after Nov. 5. The fire front extends up to 45 miles.)

Headline: Forest Service cites hunter for setting signal fire

Read it here.

If this is the guy that started the Cedar Fire........GRRRRR!!!    I can't believe how someone can go about doing things and not think of the ultimate consequences.

Wow, Valencia is pretty bad too.

My wife and my sister-in-law decided to take the kids (all 6 of them) out of town and head up to San Jose to visit some relatives. They were planning on staying the night up in Valencia, but then saw the flames on the hillside. They weren't diggin' on the idea of leaving one fire only to stay near another one, so I have them heading a little farther north and staying the night in Bakersfield.

Man, I was just watching the news and this is some crazy fire! It breaks my heart to hear about the lives lost, the houses burned, and land destroyed. My prays are focused on South Cali right now!
God Bless...

Valencia is doing alright. I was driving in the area of Stephenson's Ranch in the new development areas when I was practicing learning stick and know the area the fire is in. Its under control; the fire would have to be allowed to burn for a couple days to destroy the new developments and before it threatens Valencia proper. Not going to happen!

The support for Julian is strong and hopefully it will survive. Valencia will be protected but the surrounding landscape will not be so lucky.

I'm hearing bad news for Big Bear, anyone know the latest on that? Co-workers who live in Valencia said the news last night stated if the fire goes up the hill, limited access will prevent it from ingulfing Big Bear and fire fighters will be pulled back. :(
